This movie was so good. It was smart, funny and engaging. I have to admit, I have a thing for Robert Downey, Jr. and icing on the cake was Jude Law. However, the storyline was easy to follow, not boring or too drawn out. I'd see this again. A good mix of action and dialog. It's a must see!

Going into the movie with low expectations, I was very happy with the film. The dialogue is quite witty, and the depiction of Victorian London is, I think, fairly realistic. I never read any of the original Sherlock Holmes stories, so I have no complaint with the movie updating Holmes. Overall, not an award-winning film, I think, but very enjoyable and definitely worth seeing in the theater.

This movie is a visual treat, but the plot line and dialogue are totally missing. It reminded me of a video game, with thrills and chills at every turn but no story line on which to hang the action. Downey is always a treat, however, I wish I had waited until it came out on DVD instead of paying the theater ticket price to see it!

This is a refreshing take on Sherlock Holmes. Anyone who is a fan of the literary character should be pleased with Robert Downey Jr.'s onscreen portrayal. The action is not overwhelming or ludicrous, the dialog is witty, and the cinematography is fascinating. I will see this again in the theaters and purchase it as soon as I can to watch again and again at home.

I would recommend this movie to about anyone looking for an entertaining evening. I thought it was very well cast and they gave excellent performances. The movie does have some slow spots and probably could have been shorter than it was, but you can overlook it because when it's going strong, it's going very strong. The story is pretty interesting and I thought they did a nice job of setting up the sequal. Looking forward to it.

had to sit too close to screen which impacted on my enjoyment. THe theaters should reserve space for those of us who buy tickets early on line.

Interesting development of character and use of "preview/thinking" to demonstrate Holmes' thought process. However, does seem to move from one fight scene to another. Better to intersperse fights between plot and character development than the other way around.
Clearly a sequel is planned/hoped for. Here's hoping its more cerebral than martial.

The papers have not been too kind to this movie, but ignore them and go see it anyway.
Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law make a great Holmes and Watson, and their interraction is a lot of fun, in fact the best part of the movie. The story is a bit convoluted and you may want to check your brain at the door. Go along for the ride and enjoy a rollicking adventure. A bit long, but none-the-less worth your time. There is likely to be a sequel.

I took my 13 year old son & really enjoyed the show. Humor, adventure & enough quips that I would like to see again (on Blu Ray) to catch the ones I missed.
Certainly not what Conan Doyle could have imagined but then...Conan Doyle would be boring to the majority of todays Movie goers.

My expectations were very high after watching a trailer but ... it turned out to be a boring movie.
The whole movie I was hoping it will get better but as time was passing by it was getting worse. The script is not good (too many writers?), Holmes - not funny as intended, the story - not original. And the fake, terrible accent totally kills it.
My advise - do not trust trailer, read reviews instead.

I took my wife and 4 kids to this movie, and they all loved it. I would recommend this movie to anybody. My kids like the way Sherlock and Holmes dissected the crimes. On the way the even asked me if there was going to be a s sequel.

I'm pretty new to Sherlock Holmes, and therefore don't have a lot of preconcieved notions to reconcile. So with "new" eyes here is my review.
I was thoroughly entertained with Sherlock Holmes. I was particularly intrigued with the "denseness/complexity" of the sets, colors, cinematography etc.
I thought Downey's potrayal of Holmes was great, and Jude as Dr. Watson, was a great compliment.
I'm glad there will be a sequel.

This is a great interpretation of Sherlock Holmes. It includes some of the things in the books, such as Sherlock's penchant for boxing (although it misses fencing), and the fact that Watson was not the bumbling sidekick depected in the Basil Rathbone/Nigel Bruce versions, but someone Sherlock depended on. If you like the books, you will definitely like this movie. If you like this movie, definitely check out the books! Robert Downey Jr is great as Sherlock, and the chemistry between him and Jude Law as Watson is perfect as two men with a close bond and how they deal with new life experiences while still keeping their bond strong. A definite must see for women & men alike. I'm looking forward to the sequel they set up at the end.

I really liked the action sequences and the
characters were great together!
Downey's Holmes character did not have Basil Rathbone's enunciation though, so it was occasionally difficult to understand what he was saying.

As portrayed in this movie, Holmes' fighting prowess was simply another facet of his mental quickness. The only "flaw" is the impression until late in this movie that Holmes is clueless, because, as Watson complains, he shares little of his mental processing. I enjoyed the portrayal of Holmes as, not a meticulously groomed fop, but a single-minded, scruffy hacker.

If you're just looking for something to do then I think it's entertaining enough. I literally drug my husband out to see Sherlock Holmes and wished we'd stayed home. I love Robert Downey, Jr. though. I should have just waited for Iron Man 2.

Enjoyed the newest Sherlock Holmes.
I've just finished viewing the original 1943-1945 SH films, so was able to combine past with current "deductive reasoning" abilities. Outstanding upgrade for today's filming standards.
Great ooportunity to compare the "old" with the "new" SH!
No doubt that there is going to be a sequel that will include the pursuit of Professor M.
Looking forward to the next Sherlock Holmes.

Guy Ritchie delivers another great post Madonna movie. I found the acting in this movie to be superb with the story line dragging a little at times. The fight scenes were ingenious. Hope the sequel will be equally as good.
