I remember the original TRON fondly. I had high hopes for this sequel but fears because of a first-time director. The movie is visually stunning, and certainly updates the original battles in 3 dimensions very effectively. The music is also very good. However it is probably 20 minutes too long, and there is actually a shortage of action sequences. The gameworld is somewhat monochromatic, too. I enjoyed it, but it should have been tighter and shorter.
The papers have not been too kind to this movie, but ignore them and go see it anyway. Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law make a great Holmes and Watson, and their interraction is a lot of fun, in fact the best part of the movie. The story is a bit convoluted and you may want to check your brain at the door. Go along for the ride and enjoy a rollicking adventure. A bit long, but none-the-less worth your time. There is likely to be a sequel.
If you like to laugh at politically incorrect humor, you'll enjoy this movie. I do, and I did. While I'm not a fan of Will Ferrell's movies (this was from his production company), his cameo was brief and did not annoy me. Jeremy Piven fans will enjoy his performance as the leader of a group of hard-sell used car salespeople. Outrageous, but never crossing the line, he carried the movie quite well, ably backed by a good supporting cast. Several times during this movie you will probably be telling yourself, "This is SO wrong!" but you'll be laughing never-the-less. I had a good time watching The Goods.
I'm not a hard-core Trekker, but I have watched Star Trek in all its various forms since the original series. This was a very well-done film that should please fans and non-fans alike. Great action, great acting and plenty of humor spark a time-travel story (yes, with all of its paradoxes) that you should not waste a lot of thought on but rather just go along for the ride. If you remember your favorite characters fondly, you will love Karl Urban's Bones McCoy. I sincerely hope JJ Abrams is back on board as director for the next installment. Go see it, and live long and prosper!
Fun revenge flick. Somewhat predictable (you know who's going to die). Story line has slight similarities to "Hostel" movies but far less gory. Liam Neeson plays Jack Bauer pretty well, even going so far as to use some of Jack's methods to get what he needs to rescue his daughter. If you're looking for a good action picture without lots of deep meaning, this is for you. If you like films from Luc Besson, you will not be disappointed.
