My family enjoyed this movie. I thought it was pretty much over the top with action, but that is what I had expected. The plot was hard to follow and hear. I think my younger son enjoyed it the most!

After my death in 1930, I have been haunting the world in hopes of seeing my works of Sherlock Holmes immortalized on the big screen. I may finally put my weary soul to rest knowing my work has been placed in the capable hands of Guy Ritchie, a most peculiar name for a Scotsman but capable nonetheless.
There is a slight air of fraternal bondage between Watson and Holmes (Watson being more akin to my personal experiences as a doctor) akin to a house on fire.
May my soul return for future adventures of my Holmes and Watson!

Overall a good film. Not the best I have seen recently however the story line was compelling and the use of humor was appropriate yet not over the top. Some scenes were dark but I credit that toward the depiction of the time period. The only real complaint I had was that some of the action scenes and camera movement was a little fast which made the scene hard to follow. I did however enjoy the slow motion thoughts of Holmes... clever! Overall, I would recommend as a "should see" not sure if it is one I will purchase down the road though.

Smart, funny at the appropriate times, action but not non-stop. Good character development for intro movie. It is a stand alone film but makes you want to see this British Duo again.

I just wanted to say that I cannot understand how the NY Times and SFChronicle gave this movie such wretched reviews. It was exciting and amusing and all together great fun. Sure the storyline with the arch villain was weak but that was completely made up for as far as I was concerned with the character depth of our two main characters and the richness of the set design etc.

Not sure I knew what to expect when I went to see this movie, but I have to say it is one of my new favorites! Robert Downey Jr. was perfectly cast as Sherlock Holmes and should win an Oscar for it! Jude Law as Watson was excellent as well.. The chemistry between these two actors really captured the original duo well. The action packed twists and turns of the story keep you at the edge of your seat. Funny at times, suspenseful and very cerebral as well. Don't miss this movie!

I suppose my expectations of this movie were too high but I was not impressed with it. It didn't really depect anything that was really the true Sherlock Holmes although Martin Downey JR's acting was fantastic as usual.

Excellent acting by Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. Very good fight scenes and the graphics were very good as well. Read many Sherlock Holmes novels growing up and this movie brought this one to life exceptionally well. Not like the old stodgy movies from years past.

Couldn't wait to see this movie after watching the trailer months ago. My mom all the way down to my 9 year old niece loved the movie. Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, and Rachel McAdams all looked like they were having a blast on screen and that translated to the characters. I would definitely pay to see this one again in theaters.

The plot line is true to form with an excellent mix of character and lead actors with all the proper mystery as the story unfolds. The difference is that this movie has a visceral level of danger and action that makes it a real thrill ride. Robert Downing Jr. is excellent as SH as he plays both the genius and the person exhibiting all the strengths and weaknesses in SH. Jude Law extends the Dr. Watson character considerably by being both a practical counterpoint and a fighter too.
Darn good movie.

I treated 12 family members to this movie, most from out of town, aged 21 to 74, and they all agreed they thoroughly enjoyed this movie.
My wife and I thought Robert Downey did an excellent job; very erudite, intelligent and humorous.
It is one of the few movies I could watch again.

I loved the twists in the plot, although if you are not paying close attention you can miss a lot. With all the critic's reviews on this movie, I didn't expect too much out of it. It was really cool how they made everything meld together

Don't have indepth knowledge of Sherlock Holmes but I enjoyed the movie. Cohesive plot. Thought Watson was a great balance to Holmes slightly "mad" persona. Movie was over 2 hours. Long time to sit in a sold out theater.

for my generation Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce were Holmes and Watson. This latest incarnation is a grand interpretation of the original material. Long time fans know that Watson was far from the bumbler that Bruce portrayed. And Watson did continually give Holmes Heck for his cocaine use :self poisoner". Downey and Law are an absolute delight in the roles. Only criticism is that the film is a little long at 2:17, and the fight scenes could have been cut a little. It's a problem I have with all modern action films. My Freemason friends will roll their eyes and shake their heads over this film.

the movie was boring, with repeated fight scenes, difficult to understand dialogue, and the characters often looked in need of a bath. I actually fell asleep multiple times, and couldn't wait for the movie to end

Have been looking forward to this movie for weeks and we were not disappointed. From a 14 year old boy, a 17 year old girl, a 19 year old girl, to their parents, we all were engrossed from the start. Sometimes the dialog was difficult to understand-very rapid fire conversations, but the story line was clever and fun to watch as Holmes and Watson uncovered the clues, right before our very eyes.

very enjoyable movie. I didn't think the signature intellectual approach of A.C. Doyle's Holmes stories was overridden by the violence common to most contemporary movies- as I was afraid this movie might allow. Though there was much more violence than I think was really necessary to make this movie appealing to a broad audience. not suitable for young children. plot was compelling. dialog was pretty solid. acting was very good. set and costume design and cgi was very impressive.

It was an ok movie. Not great, not bad. At times, due to the british accents, the dialogue was hard to understand. Beautiful sets. A bit dark for me. Interesting but hard to follow at times plot. Good acting. A simpler plot would have made this a better movie, in my opinion

We walked out of the theater and our comments were, very well done, a good mystery. The time flew by. Left us wanting more. Wow, All done in a very clean manner with no nudity or offending words and it was still a good movie.
Loved Robert Downey Jr.'s interpretation of Sherlock. He has redeemed himself as a good actor. Watson was aptly represented.
Right up there with the best of a thriller movie.
Some good edge of seat moments.
At the same time classy and elegant.

This was an okay movie. It was entertaining but had a bit too many too's: too many dark fight scenes where it was hard to tell the good guys from the bad ones. Too many loose ends and useless clues and too long. It could easily have been shaved by a half hour. The relationships between the characters was very good; very well developed.
