Both my husband and I are so glad to see Downey back to acting. He was really missed during his crazy days. Loved the piece especially when he would picture what he was going to do prior to actually instituting the plan. We are both ready for the sequel.

The movie started out slow and had some almost sleepable spots, but it ended on a very high note. If you haven't read any Holmes books you can still enjoy the movie.

If you've had a problem sleeping, this movie is the cure. If you've seen the trailers, you've seen all of the good parts.
The acting is ok. The cinematography is ok. The plot is weak. The villain is weak. The direction is horrible. The running time is about an hour too long. More is not better.
There is going to be a sequel. Hopefully, this works out like the Star Trek franchise where the first movie was a dud followed by some blockbusters.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Fun update on characters. Fun & memorable characterization. Low volume - little lip movement esp. in 1st 30 min. - not fun. 3 people in back of me commented not being able to make out what actors were saying & one said it was common for director G. Ritchie.

Though the theme of the movie is dark and more like a ride through the haunted mansion at times, the clever interaction between Holmes and Dr. Watson as well as other humorous bits lighten it enough to be both fun and intense. My fourteen year old was bothered by the Satanic Cult figures - but relieved in the end to see Holmes unravel the magical charade. Over-all a movie worth seeing and all actors were great.

The dialogue, while witty, was delivered at such a rapid pace that it was difficult to understand. Having the ability to rewind would have been helpful. For that reason alone, I consider this movie a rental (4 categories - don't bother vs. rent only vs. go see vs. go see & buy the DVD).
The plot was decent. Law and Downey Jr. provided good performances. A decent flick.

I guess they figured Sherlock Holmes would be boring if he were just a logical genius, so they added a few character traits- alcoholic, slovenly, loves to fight. Not what I expected.

The movie was entertaining overall. Robert Downey Jr.'s accent makes it difficult to understand him at times. The chemistry between Jude and Robert was outstanding and they complimented each other well. Rachel was hot as always.

Saw it at the Graumann's Chinese where a movie of this caliber was meant to be seen. A W E S O M E..

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle would be proud of the screenwriters, director, the sets, costumes and certainly the actors. Even if you don't know who Holmes and Watson are you will find a wonderful who-done-it in Old England. I look forward to any sequel. Downey, Jr., Law, McAdams, and the whole supporting cast are wonderful.

I loved Robert Downey Jr in Ironman (I've always just liked him) but I am more in love with him now. He kicks butt and takes names in this movie. He takes the cleverly funny dialog and makes it that much more enjoyable. He and Jude Law appear to have had a great time making this film and Rachel McAdams is as lovely as ever. Director Guy Ritchie has delivered another fabulous movie. Go see it!

"Sherlock Holmes" is certainly worth seeing, but consider it more of a popcorn film than the next "Dark Knight." Unfortunately, much of its "darkness" (including certain scenes of violence) aren't a good fit with lighter inclinations so beware. Downey, Jr and Law and, especially, Mark Strong, give good performances, yet there's a lack of connection somehow. Good film but not a great one.

I love Robert Downey Jr.! He has a very dry wit and really gets into his characters. He makes a great 'new' Sherlock Holmes. Jude Law makes a good sidekick, is easy to look at, and I think compliments Downey well. There was a little too much fighting, and there could have been a little more detail added to the story line, but the over all handling of the dark atmosphere of old England set the stage well. I enjoyed it and look forward to more encounters between Holmes and his nemisis!

I loved the characters and witty banter between the main characters. I felt both Robert Downey Jr.and Jude Law both did a very nice job with their roles. The effect were as stunning as I had hoped them to be. The story itself was a bit predictable but on the whole a very entertaining movie.

I found this to be a very good movie. Good action, good effects. Great cast. Nice twist on the Holmes character. Sherlock Holmes has always been portrayed as a brainiak as opposed to the physical which I found a nice addition!
Great story or plot. Just enough action, twists and turns to keep you into the movie.
I look forward to a sequel.
Fans of action, suspense, witty conversation and comedy should definitely check out "Sherlock Holmes"."

Loved this movie...great period piece and action film. Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law are wonderful, as is Rachel McAdams. Jude Law has just the right amount of understatement next to Robert Downey Jr.'s eccentric behavior. I enjoyed as did my 17 year old niece, and I ran into a friend who is over 70 at this showing, he and his wife also enjoyed the film.
