I love Jeremy Brett's portrayal of Sherlock Holmes on TV. Robert Downey Jr. portayed Sherlock in the same arrogant manner we all expect FANTASTIC! The powers of deduction, TERRIFIC in fight scenes & in the end of course. Jude Law-superb! Finally an actor that exhibits the Dr as written...capable & brave whom Holmes doesn’t hesitate to call upon for both moral & physical assistance; former military man & athlete who once played rugby. Jude Law IS Dr Watson. Rachel McAdams is great as "The Woman" the only woman Holmes thought as a worthy adversary. Gayle Hunnicutt, played a strong Irene Adler & Rachel McAdams was equally as strong. I hated for it to end! They still need to get the illusive Prof Moriarty fantastically played by Mark Strong!

A Different Holmes and Watson

In most pictures Holmes has been characterized as austere with a brilliant mind for detail, Watson the minor character acting as the moral compass. In this movie we see everything differently. The one person who has fooled Holmes re-enters his life and she has him befuddled. Romance and Holmes have been strangers for many years. Watson is breaking away their long time companionship because he too has romance in his life. We see Watson in a whole new light as an sharp and physical person more involved in the Holmes mysteries. Add to this mix a devilish madman and you have a great story.
If you enjoy Sherlock Holmes in word, television and movies you have to see this adventure.

Robert Downing Jr did a marvelous job... Excellent movie... Laughed and then was enthralled by the way Sherlock's mind worked..
Jude Law was perfect for the part of Watson.. Their partenership never faultered even tho it seemed to be taxed somewhat. I will see again and will buy when on dvd!!

I really liked seeing the "other side" of Sherlock Holmes. In previous movies, he's been the stand up guy with a good moral compass. But in this version of the Holmes character, you can clearly see that like many of us he has obvious flaws. It was really good! I also liked how the end of the movie kept you hanging on for the obvious sequel. Robert Downey Jr was absolutely brilliant in this role.

This movie had everything...action, romance, humor and was quite an adventure. What a pleasant way to spend part of an afternoon ! Robert Downey Jr. always entertains and makes his characters believable. The special effects were very good and added so much to the experience. This was a wonderful way to update the Sherlock Holmes genre for the current generation. I remember the original black and white Basil Rathbone movies and think this movie captures something unique that adds to the genre.

Didn't know what to think initially but as the movie progressed the "plot thickened". The movie was a great bit of story telling and I can see yet another "franchise" for Downey with Sherlock Holmes and Ironman.
I was glued to my seat the whole show!! I would go again just to pickup the nuansances of the plot clues and some of the dialogue.

I loved it because it was everything you could ask for in a movie: action, romance, intellectually challenging and funny. Not much language or nudity. A movie I will definitely recommend to all my friends & family.

Not at all what I expected. Robery Downey was superb and his and Jude Law's interactions were priceless. The plot had some great twists and it was pure entertainment. Can't wait for the sequel - I hope.

I grew up watching Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce as Holmes and Watson when they ran the movies on television. I always thought that Nigel Bruce was a bit to wishy-washy as Watson, but Rathbone was pretty good. Then along came Jeremy Brett and Edward Hardwicke and, having read all the Holmes books, I thought they were the closest to what Conan Doyle wrote.
Now we have Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. This is not your father's Sherlock Holmes nor mine, but a new take and I thought it was pretty good even though it differs from the books. Both men are very good in their parts and the settings are great. Can't wait for the inevitable sequal.

I was never a big Sherlock Holmes fan but this movie is wonderful! It has a great story line and I found out that you don't need to be an old time Sherlock fan to love this movie. It always kept you guessing, can't wait for #2!

I have not been to a movie theatre in over 4 years. I thought this movie was outstanding. The story line was incredible. It kept you on the edge of your seat the entire time. Robert Downey jr. and Jude Law should receive Oscar nominations for their performances. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good mystery movie!

LOVE Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law together. They were witty and quirky and very funny. Clean movie, little to no swearing. The costumes and camera work were exceptional. We absolutely Loved it!

I enjoyed Robert Downey Jr and Jude law as a team they were funny and quirky in all the right ways. Story was a little confusing to me (sorry) visually the costumes were fabulous. BUT I still say you have to like this type of movie and time period to fully enjoy it. Rob't Downey Jr was VERY handsome in this.

A lot of fun, and you get exactly what you expect to get. It's hard to go wrong with Robert Downey Jr., and partnered up with Jude Law they don't disappoint. The bickering and interplay between Holmes and Watson will remind you of TV's House and Wilson; but then, House and Wilson were always meant to be an homage to Holmes and Watson.

The acting was excellent, strong characters, reasonable plot, however the words were often difficult to understand, perhaps because there is such constant reaction to the continuous action by the soundtrack. I will see it again on DVD.

First of all, this movie is based on the books, it isn't the book. Don't rate it for the differences of the book and movie. It is a movie not a book. The movie was great and kept me going. The mystery was unpredictable and made you think. I loved watching this movie and the way that the actors played it. I recommend you see it.

Costumes and scenery were awesome - dark with the theme of the movie as well as consistent with London of the time period. Acting was excellent. Liberal license with both the character of Holmes and Watson yet consistent with a more real character than Doyle sometimes protrayed.
A must see! 2 hrs and 14 minutes seemed like 15 minutes, it was so spell binding.
