My Life in Ruins was a wonderful movie, with breathtaking REAL SCENERY actually shot in GREECE. It shows REAL RUINS, exploring the feelings of the REAL PEOPLE who lived among them. It is funny and sweet. The stereotypes at the beginning are eventually exposed sympathetically. The Proposal (shot in Vermont not Alaska) actually was much more predictable. There was the driven woman executive, the misguided tycoon father, the wise pagan grandmother, the zany male stripper, the aborted wedding. My Life in Ruins is ironic with some gentle insights, and unpretentious with some scenic grandeur.

My life in ruins was by no means my big fat greek wedding. It was cute and predictable, but a nice date movie. I wasn't expecting Richard Dreyfuss to steal the movie. It does drag on in spots, and the time spent waiting for Georgia to get her mojo back could be spent developing other characters. I was torn between a 2 and a 3.... so 2.5...or 2.75.

The incredibly short run this film had here is a strong indication that it could not compete with The Proposal, which is in the same general genre. The characters were terribly stereotypical, and the unoriginal plot did nothing to make this much more than a 2-star movie. It was definitely watchable, but simply too elementary to provide me with very much satisfaction. Some laughs, but for me, they were forced.

This movie is quite charming, light hearted, cute and funny. There is no s-e-x, no swearing and no drugs so if you are looking for this you won't find it here. Vardalos, Dryfuss and the bus driver are excellent in their roles. This is a nice movie to see. Don't miss it.

This movie was cute, a little predictable, but cute. BUT what I couldn't believe were all of the mikes, set lights, and set "tops," that were visible throughout! It was crazy! Everytime one showed up, the whole audience groaned. I would skip it for a rental. Hopefully by then they'll re-edit!?

My life was ruined when I saw this movie, it was worse than a Loveboat episode, in fact the acting in the Loveboat was better.
There were very few funny moments and it was a ridiculous story with poor acting, why Richard Dreyfus was in this movie is beyond me.

OK, there are no car crashes, vampires, magic wands, zombies, superheros, or spaceships in this movie. Instead, there is a warm and funny story about relationships, living life, and finding yourself. Nia Vardalos is her usual Greek self, sweet and funny. Richard Dreyfuss adds a touch of class and depth to the movie. The supporting cast does a wonderful job playing a bunch of characters you might find on any tour bus. And Greece itself is a special character with beautiful vistas and iconic ruins. Except for the first 10 minutes, this is an excellently written, well paced movie that entertains like movies used to do. For over an hour and a half, you can forget your worries and just be happy. See it with a friend!

This movie was excellent. Richard Dryfus was awesomely comical. I'd see this movie twice it was so good! Best chick flick since Big Fat Greek Wedding!
