I loved this movie, it was a joy to watch Meryl Streep & Amy Adams. My friend & I were inspired to attempt some of the dishes, so we went right to the bookstore to order our Cookbooks. Ms Streep as always was perfect, & Ms Adams made you like Ms Powell, who was not that likable in the book. I will see this one again.

This movie is a hoot! Meryl Streep did a great job capturing the real Julia and her love of food.
This movie may not be for everyone. We saw it with my brother and sister- in-law, both of whom look at food as just food, never appreciating it for the flavor, texture and joy that it provides. They thought it was dry in some areas. My husband and I, on the other hand spend our weekends in the kitchen making gourmet meals for our friends often using Julia's receipies. We loved the film! My only thought was that I would like to see a film just based on the life of Julia herself. She lived such an adventure filled life that it would be great on film.

Norah Ephron did a terrific job combining the two books about Julia Child and Julie Powers. And go see it after a big dinner, because you'll be famished after all the beautiful looking food and in depth discussions on ingredients etc.
I wasn't lost in Meryl Streep's role in this movie as Julia, maybe because she's a bit old to have this part. She certainly played up Julia's way of talking, initially charming and reminiscent, finally to become grating and tiresome by the end of the movie. We also thought Stanley Tucci was excellent, but noticeably younger than Meryl.
It's a wonderful story with some strong life messages that are a pleasure to watch.

I grew up watching her television program. She always made things fun. She inspired me to follow my love of food and journey into the cooking world. This film really gives a person who doesn't really know "Julia" a sense of her spirit and passion. As for "Julie", what an undertaking. Both the actresses and their counterparts brought everything "to the table" here.....Butter is a good thing.......Oscar anyone?????

I LOVED this movie - Meryl Streep is fantastic (like you wouldn't know that) and so is Amy Adams. Stanley Tucci was so believable as Paul Child - and its a lovely story. Unlike another review, I do think this is like Julia's life - it is modeled off her book "My Life in France". It was great fun, made me ravenously hungry and inspired me to buy "Mastering the Art of French Cooking". See it, you won't be sorry

I am an unabashed foodie; If you are not, perhaps this is not the best movie for you. I knew nothing in particular about Julia Child, and had never had any particular interest in her story. However, I went to see the movie because of all the hype. The portrayals by Streep and Adams of their characters love of, not only food, but their joy and seriousness about its preparation, and as a subject in general, was superb. I found myself profoundly interested by Julia's life, and Julie's as well. If you like food, you will love this movie!

This was a pleasant little fluff of a movie, but if you are a true foodie who thought you'd get a lot of insight into Julia Child, most of the movie was the boring antics of the 30-something blogger -- and frankly, no one cared about Julie Powell when she wrote the original blog (including Julia Child). Worth seeing Streep's impersonation of Julia Child but beyond that and some nice scenery, the movie is a snoozer. You and your date should save the $18 you could spend on tickets and indulge in a fine cheese and some French wine instead. Overall take: an amuse bouche that left me hungry for more.

I am a Julia Child fan, but I was disappointed with this movie. Meryl Streep's impersonation of Julia Child is excellent, yet you can watch that for only so long. The plot was a bit ridiculous and I found myself wondering why I should care about Julie who suffers from low self esteem and thinks that replicating Julia's recipes in just one year will somehow make her feel better about herself. Her husband, who is constantly trying to encourage his pitiful wife, seems a bit pitiful himself. I also didn't understand the need for those gratuitous digs at Republicans. What was that all about? And the movie should have been about half an hour shorter.

Even if you can ignore the amazing recipes covered in the film, with colorful, taste-worthy shots of the dishes Julie (Amy Adams) cooks up, you can't help but admire the sheer genius in Julia Child (Meryl Streep), who embraces the French style of cooking with a flair only she can. The film captures the entire sensual experience of food, the French life, and the satisfaction that comes from a well-cooked meal. It is not without ups and downs although some are to be expected (no spoilers I hope!) from the viewer, but one still feels for the heroines in each story.

I was seeing it with 13 yr old granddaughter.....REALLY wish they had left our the F word!!!!! and the other bad language I was embarassed. Why must they do that to a perfectly good movie?

Loved the movie, so nice to be entertained with heartfelt laughter. I want to see it over again and the only other movie I ever wanted to see again was Breakfast at Tiffanys

I totally enjoyed everything about this movie. I loved the way the two women's lives were woven together. Meryl Streep was delightful & really pulled off Julia Child's quirks. It had a little bit of all that makes a movie fun to watch.

i enjoyed the movie...i would have liked to see more of Julia! Meryl Streep was incredible...I liked Amy Adams, but not sure her character was as well developed as she could have been. the sign of a good movie was that we were inspired to buy Julia's cookbooks!

I always liked to see Meryl Streep in movies, but I felt in this movie which seemed to drag on in different segments that she did show one of her better performances.

If you ever watched Julia Child on television, then you know what a great job Meryl Streep did in her portrayal. Amy Adams did an excellent job with Julie. Both characters were fleshed out and you felt you knew them both. Wish there were more movies out there that were written, directed and played out as well.
