Jon Favreau and Marvel set the bar pretty high with the first movie and while this movie never quite reaches the lofty heights of its predecessor, it is still a worthy follow up to the original. The returning cast members, Downey, Paltrow, Betany and Jackson, exceed expectations as do their new castmates Scarlet Johansen, Mickey Rourke, Sam Rockwell (who was original considered to play Stark, now playing his rival) and Don Cheadle filling in for Terrence Howard. If you liked the first movie, definitely see this one and brace yourself, cuz there's more to come from Marvel and Iron Man

While I liked the movie a lot-: thank you RDJ for being a great Tony Stark. John Slattery for being the dad that connected after he was dead.. and brought the film back to life Mickey O'Rourke who kicked butt as the Whipliash..
Scarlett Johanssen was good but not great-- Samuel Jackson-- his part was underplayed and not enough of him in the film
The role of Justin Hammer not enough depth and darkness. he was comic.. too comic..
Don Cheadle was good but parts of the action went on waaaaaaaaaay too long.. but the ending shows for sure there will be another film.. now if we could give RDJ the same sort of power pack..

This was the best movie I have seen in a while. Better then Avatar or the Transformer series. It is especially good for children as there is like no sexual content or bad language and the inuendos would go way over a child's head. We really enjoyed this movie.

When you have a origin film that sets the characters - and it becomes a blockbuster, the natural thing to do is to compare the second movie with the first. So many critics have done that. This movie sets up the next stage of Iron Man's evolution. Tony Stark becomes a real hero in this movie. He has illness to overcome, he feels his mortality and tries to protect his legacy. I loved the fight sequences and special effects in this movie. My only complaint is when russian is spoken, there isn't subtitles all the way through so you get lost and the story seems to run on auto pilot for periods of time. Go see it!!!

I know I'm probably going to roasted by all of the fan boys out there but having grown up one I think I have a little say in the matter.
Like everyone else in my group of 22 friends who went to see IRON MAN 2 at 12:01 am Friday morning we all had very high expectations for this film having loved the first one, we were all sadly disappointed. I did not have problem with Don Cheadle replacing Terrance Howard as 'Rhodey', he is a very comparable actor in his own right and did the best he could in the role with what he was given. This movie just seemed to lack the magic of the first one even though there was twice as much action in this installment. Robert Downey Jr who I thought was brilliant in the first film showing the multiple levels of Tony Stark seemed less than up to snuff in this film, almost phoning in his performance at times. He seemed bored to me. Gweneth Paltrow and Scarlett Johansson, both excellent actors were also completely wasted in this film, their characters not given enough depth and Mickey Rourke and Sam Rockwell were reduced to 2 dimensional baddies. Best performance in the movie in my opinion was given by MAD MEN star John Slattery as Tony Stark's father Howard Stark, though you can definitely feel the Disney influence in this movie as his character was a cross between Howard Hughes and Walt, even going so far as to have a retro looking film where he is walking around a small scale model of the STARK EXPO that looks strikingly similar to the model of Disney Land which resides at the theme park in Southern California. The action sequences were very well done, the CGI impeccable and nearly undetectable (unlike WOLVERINE) but the movie just didn't have enough to hold my attention. Half way through I started to wonder if crap-meister Michael Bay had a hand in this.
A lot of one liners in this film and I am always a big fan of the comedy but everything in this film seemed halfheartedly and done very tongue in cheek, almost poking fun at the first film which to me was far superior. If you're going to do a superhero film, do it all the way, like the first one which was reminiscent of SPIDER-MAN & the first X-MEN which in most part stayed loyal to the uber-geeks (like me) but also had that mass appeal to reach those who have never read a comic book in their lives. This movie was obviously filler and fluff to move the genre closer to the all encompassing AVENGERS movie coming down the pike. You know what... were all going to see it anyway. Why not make these quality stand alone films with a tie to the big picture, don't try to fleece the public with a lesser film just to finance the next big installment. Make them all great, more people will come to see them, you'll make more money and the viewing public will love you for it.
Final words: RENTAL, don't waste your $11.00 (or however much it is where you live) to see this at the movies, you'll thank yourself later, trust me.

Well the wait is finally over. The first real summer blockbuster has landed with a bang. Iron Man 2 is everything you want in a sequel: A great story driven film, complimented with incredible action sequences and a load of incredibly chosen actors. It seems to be re-affirmed over again why Favreau was chosen to direct the franchise. He's a boy at heart and is truly invested in the characters here. It translates so well into a story that appeals to the fanboys and the casual summer movie goer. Robert Downey Jr. and Gwenneth Paltrow truly make up some of the great humorous moments in the film (not to mention Sam Rockwell's dance moves) while we get a taste of impeccable acting by Mickey Rourke and Don Cheadle. Also we can never forget about the goodness of more Sam Jackson as Nick Fury and the super human sizzle that Scarlett Johansson brings to heat things up for the baddies. Exciting, full of a robust plot for each of the key players, and a nice set up for future Marvel madness to come; Iron Man, War Machine, Whiplash, Black Widow and more are a shoe in for a second and third viewing. Don't miss it all super sized fun in the IMAX experience as well. Iron Man 2 Rocks! Go see it NOW!

having been an avid Iron Man reader as a kid in the late '70's early 80's, I thought this movie rocked. Downey is a perfect tony stark..whiplash was a great character with Mickey Rourke..the weakest point in the movie was the Justin Hammer character... he is very strong in the comics, but the movie protrayed him as an idiot. Would have liked more daylight fight scenes, but the effects were spectacular.

I thought the story line and writing were great for Iron Man 2. The final battle was too short. It seemed like they were running out of time so they tried to get it over with too quick. The plot twists were well written and executed in this movie. The solution to the paladium in Stark's chest seemed to take a while to develop and resolve, but the solution was well worth the wait. This movie was a very good build-up to the next one. I just hope they can deliver and even more powerful and exciting Iron Man 3.

I did not feel drawn by any of the characters. I saw all of the action sequences in the previews but the funny parts of the previews were not in the movie. (Gweneth Paltrow kissing the mask and "you complete me".) This reminded me of Spider Man 2. Too much stuff going on and too much emotion that did not get explored but was assumed to make tension. Instead, I was left watching great action scenes that were not very suspenseful. But I am a sucker. I will be there for Iron Man 3, the Avengers and Thor.

The movie was excellent, those 125 minutes went buy so fast I thought the theater owed me money for not giving me all my time. Well written, acted and great special effects make a great movie. I might actually go see it again. I recommend everyone go see this movie and get a taste of the Summer Movie Kickoff. I only hope the rest of the so called Summer Blockbusters can maintain what IronMan 2 put into motion.

The unfortunate side effect of fantastic comic book movies like Iron Man and the Dark Knight is that they raise the bar so high that routine audiences can't help but be "let down" by the good ones. Iron Man 2 is a good movie. Completely disregard the MORONIC CASE MADE BY CRITICS that Iron Man 2 is too convoluted. Any 11 year old who actually reads comics can follow the story lines- and probably LIKES MULTIPLE PLOT LINES to keep them interested. After teasers in The HULK and IRON MAN- its very cool to see the AVENGERS sub plot really get rolling... Robert Downey Jr is Stark- and all the other players are well cast in their roles- and really seem to be enjoying them, meaning I have just two complaints the day after. 1- Though they were spectacular- The toe to toe fight scenes were a tad brief. 2- And Much More Importantly- WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO THE AC/DC YOU PROMISED ME? The IM2 trailer was full of ACDC licks but the only songs that make it into the move are Shoot to Thrill and Highway to Hell. Considering the lame way dated tunes were used throughout the film (Another One Bites the Dust?) this was a huge letdown- Especially with great tracks like Evil Walks, Razor's Edge and Cold Hearted Man on the so called "soundtrack album" which includes the VERITABLE STARK THEME SONG IN WAITING- Have a Drink on Me!
THE FUTURE IS STILL BRIGHT Iron Man 1 and 2 are bookends. WHAT THE IRON MAN FRANCHISE NEEDS TO DO NOW is to throw its weight behind the Avengers- and when it returns to its roots- IT SHOULD COME BACK WITH A CONSECUTIVELY FILMED TRILOGY ABOUT INDUSTRIAL ESPIONAGE AND THE ARMOR WARS MASTERMINDED BY THE MANDARIN and featuring VILLIANS THAT DON'T LOOK LIKE IRON MAN, such as SPYMASTER, GHOST, BLIZZARD, MELTER and SUB MARINER.

It was fabulous lke the first, just behind it in how much I enjoyed it. While I felt there were gaps in the story, and Mickey Rourke, while playing a FANTASTICALLY sympathetic character fell short as a true villain. Sam Rockwell as Hammer ws... weak and pathetic. The true introduction of the SHIELD group was not well done. I am curious to see more of them however. Robert Downey Jr and Gwyneth Paltrow reprised thier roles extremely well, naturally. If you like comic book movies, special effects, Robert Downey jr, Mickey Rourke or any of the above - go see this film. It is VERY well directed and there were good moments of pathos, excitement and cheers. Its fun and not a bad way to spend a couple of hours.

First of all, I need to address Rhodey. I personally have a problem with characters being re-casted for sequels. I am one of those people that really has a hard time getting past that. Don Cheatle did a great job, but I still preferred Terrence Howard.
Anyways, the movie was not that great of a sequel. It was obviously a filler movie. Was great as a movie leading into the Avengers. The special effects really were amazing though and the fight sequences were not too long but not too short.
Scarlett Johannson did an amazing job as Natalie/Natasha and they did a great job of not "sexing" her up too much and making her too much of a distraction off of the actual storyline.

watch the language for the kiddos- they drop the *ss word a lot. most of the sexual innuendo went right over the kids heads but was great fun for the adults.

Loved the effects. Action scenes were a bit sparse over more chatty, witty banter moments. Main villian was whipped to easy. Iron Man 3 need a bass-ass villian to really test IM's metal! I found the film a bit less exciting than the first.

But not the worst. VERY LOUD. Still enjoyed Robert Downey, Jr. and the fun dialogue was great...and don't miss Stan Lee as "Larry King"...but a bad guy has to be Russian still? And the bad guy/good guy thing that Don Cheadle played was not well done. Love Don. Disliked the way the character played out. And some of the plot points were very old school (i.e., the prison escape part) and then when my daughter guessed the entire ending way before...you know it needs work still.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

great action scenes from this film just as good as the first but didnt like the way the movie ended and needed a bit more action but robert downey jr and mickey rourke give great performances

I thought the movie was GREAt because i love Robert Downey, Jr. I just think there should have been more fight scenes and it was too easy for the bad guy to get captured/die. We also didn't have the feeling that there may be a part 3 because there was nothing after the villain died.
