This is better than "good" and the use of special effects is well done-- but not the key to the movie. I think the reviews focused too much on that. However that said.. it's clear Jude Law as Watson really has done a fine job in this. I loved the unique costuming for Holmes as he does some of his stuff. He was great as the woman (as seen in trailers). Rachel McAdams.. her small part really was SMALL. Noomi Rapace.. Amazing. she's a fine actress and does credit and creates autehnticity in the movie.. she's quite good as a gypsy. The ending has a serious twist.. and there is a jaw-dropping moment.. thatyou are just hanging out there in mid-air..
Having seen all the Twilight films thus far, the only person who seemed to be consistently in touch with his emotions was Jacob/ Taylor Lautner but until the end he was a one trick pony so the ending clarified something. Pattison was good and KStew was almost emotionless. She didn't seem to show that much depth at finding out she was pregnant and how much danger she was in. Yes she wanted the baby.. but where was the fear for herself. The rest of the cast was undertutilized.. and seemed to be almost cameo appearances. Can't wait to see pt 2 bec hopefully they won't be so sluggish
as in all super hero & action movies, this movie sets up the back-story of the Green Lantern which is important to understand the dynamic of the character. However Hector is never completely or accurately explained.. he suddenly appears. Angela Basset is a waste as is Tim Robbins. I think the best friend is a nice foil for Reynolds character but doesn't get enough screen time to explain WHO he is.. since he's not a pilot. the family party time was sort of a insert into the movie to explain what put things in context. the sequel will be better than this one.. and the action was great but I have to say the plot was pretty elementary
It's about 25 minutes too long. The opening is more of the "usual" POTC and that's not as exciting as when it gets into the mermaid section and beyond. THEN it gets interesting. REALLY interesting. Effects are great and some of the people in it are really great. Keith Richards does a great bit.. and Geoffrey Rush is interesting. Ian McClellan is great. Penelope Cruz.. is not quite right for this part but she has enough sass to pull it off. You can tell where they cut the budget on the movie but it doesn't harm the plot at all.. and it's actually better that way.
Liked the movie in 3D-- it takes it to the next level that makes you really feel embedded into the movie.. Wish that bruce boxleitner had been in the movie more .. and actually played Tron. this was a good movie. I was totally engaged in this movie and I feel that it has room for a sequel.. but the question is if the entire digital world is gone.. but it can't be .. there is room left for a sequel.. and I love the interplay between Flynn's son and Olivia Wilde's character..
I knew nothing about the book series. I had heard some negative reviews about the Last Airbender and had seen many of M. Night Shyamalan in the past with varying degrees of interest-- and some not at all. So it was with a bit of question that I went to see this.
I know that the ethnicity of the different roles has been called into question -- though they did use a lot of Indian (read INDIA) actors and some other Asians, Alaskans, ethnicities but in minor roles. I saw one Afro-American in a pivotal role but no other. Given that in some context, like the Northern Water Kingdom, it would be right that because it was all snow, that those people might be more like the Vikings and reflect that. The Southern Air Tribe was not believable .. The Earth Tribe where they barely touched, it was a mixed bag and well done.
However that said, I thought the acting was good, I wish they had done more with the spirit world. I thought the plot held up for adults as well as children and it was a lot better and told more than Percy Jackson which was skewed to tween boys. This movie is for all children and adults will enjoy this as well.. We saw it with primarily an adult audience. I did not see 3D and don't care to do so but the action was great and I love Dev Patel and his uncle.
The use of fx and magic and martial arts seemed pretty seamless and I am pretty well-versed in this area.. and it's more like the first Harry Potter. I had no idea this was a going to be a series so the ending was startling.. I liked it. I would see a sequel. I HOPE there is a sequel. I think it's definitely worth seeing.
Yes there are some plot holes but you can't cover everything in a book. It's impossible to do that.. something always gets left out that someone considers crucial.
if you are looking for the battle, it's much less than what you think. The end is sort of bleh.. but the movie tells the backstory of so many different characters (except Dr & Mrs Cullen & Alice).. but you learn a lot about the other characters. The makeup and scenery are great. photography on this one.. just that it's so much about human vs vampire.. though the father/daughter scenes actually have dialogue and there is some depth there. ..
While I liked the movie a lot-: thank you RDJ for being a great Tony Stark. John Slattery for being the dad that connected after he was dead.. and brought the film back to life Mickey O'Rourke who kicked butt as the Whipliash..
Scarlett Johanssen was good but not great-- Samuel Jackson-- his part was underplayed and not enough of him in the film
The role of Justin Hammer not enough depth and darkness. he was comic.. too comic..
Don Cheadle was good but parts of the action went on waaaaaaaaaay too long.. but the ending shows for sure there will be another film.. now if we could give RDJ the same sort of power pack..
this is a movie about a family who adopts a young man based on a true story. It's deep, complicated and forceful. The young man is black, homeless and without any resources and little education. This family --lead by the mom-- takes him in and gives him hope, direction and support to achieve things that were beyond his dreams.
Liam Neesom is the reason to see this film. If you want a fast, edgy, action-packed film where you can see him out Bond 007, then this is it. There are more car crashes, beatings, killings in lightning fast editing and he does get a bit beat up around the edges for a highly unbelieveable movie. It was fun to watch but nothing you haven't seen before-- EXCEPT Liam Neeson playing this part. (typically think Bruce Willis, and that genre)
