Wow. The best movie I saw in 2008. Stunning. Masterfully constructed. Great acting by all of the child actors. A beautiful story of survival, love, and the human spirit. The only negative - the stupid dance video after the movie. I was trying to process what I had just witnessed, and while in deep thought about the impact of what I had just seen on screen, a bad music video breaks out (???)

I really hadn't expected much from this movie. I thought it would be more Bollywood than Hollywood, but I have to admit it was absolutely smashing. The screenplay was well done, and the way the questions were woven into the character's life was amazing. I still don't feel it was the Best movie of the year, but it certainly deserved to have been tied in 1st place with Benjamin Button.

I know we're fighting the tide, but we were disappointed in this movie, it just wasn't the kind of movie we enjoy. Lots of violence, disjointed, hard to follow, shocking poverty, child abuse, etc. We were sorry we had chosen this one based on reviews, etc. Someday we'll learn!

Every country has there dark side. Slumdog Millionaire gave us a look at India's dark side through the eyes of a kind hearted soul. I would recommend this movie to every mature individual.

i've been reading some of these negative reviews and these people are crazy. i debated on seeing this movie for some time now and i'm sooo glad i did actually see it. this was by far one of the very best movies i've ever seen. between all the extreme conditions these kids have to go through, to the excitement of Jamal being on the game show not for the money but to find his soulmate, to the most beautiful love story between Jamal and Latika, to the devotion Jamal has to finding this girl - all i can really say is wow. kudos to all the actors, including the very small ones and especially Danny Boyle. and a very special thanks to Dev Patel and Frieda Pinto. these two will go very far in their careers and they deserve it.

Not Worth the exposure to Trauma
The primary story here is the harsh reality of the lives of children in the slums of India. While there is a hopeful story here about resilience in the face of institutionalized bruality towards impoverished people, especially children, you have to get through a lot of trauma and heartbreak to get there and it's a very narrow thread.
I do not understand why this movie has gotten such wonderful reviews and is held up as inspirational.

The classic tale three-peated with three sets of actors is a must see for the movie aficionado. I enjoyed this movie, but felt it had been over-hyped and over-awarded based on weak competition in 2008 from the domestic movie industry, which sadly seemed more focused on pushing their agenda than entertaining the public. i'd like to see Premium movies Made in America, but think in 2009 Hollywood will continue to serve up the same crude, aberrant and disposable fare we've become acustomed to.
