It's bittersweet as the story line is very sad but a great story. I've been to India and it gave ME a lot of flashbacks as to the poverty, children begging, lies.........all true!! It was a disturbing picture that was done very well and should get best picture at the Oscars. Definitely see it on screen if possible b/c there is so much going on.........best seen on big screen versus DVD.

Danny Boyle (28 Days Later, Trainspotting) after making a few duds, hits another one out of the park with a story (and a story-within-the-story) about love and faith despite impossible odds. It is a story about the best and the worst of the human spirit. Be prepared for violent scenes: people treating others like cockroaches (slumdogs) because of their poverty and faith (people killed with canes and molatov cocktails because they're muslim, not hindu). I don't understand why this site labels this movie a comedy. One other word of warning - if you've never been to the 3rd world, the reality of the ghetto is harsh.

I think the cast of characters and the director did a wonderful job of portraying what life is like in India. Showing the living conditions and the stages of life that they had to go through I thought was very informative and captivating.

I would put this movie more in the Independent film category than as a commercial film. As such, it actually had a story line and acting rather than just the usual composite of special effects and celebrity panning that commercial movies have become.

This film was poignant and intense, and left me feeling good by the end. To use a method of review that I don't actually care for (sorry), Slumdog is a nice combination of City of God, Game Show and The Usual Suspects...all great movies. And this is a nice movie too.

We liked this movie but not an all time favorite. the acting was ok and the story line gave you something to think about if people really live this way. I personally don't care for movies with such violence but I did see the necessity of the violence in this movie to tell the story

After all the hoop-la and excellent reviews I thought this was a must-see, especially before the Oscars on Sunday. What a disappointment. This movie was nothing close to being Oscar worthy. The story was lame, the acting mundane and the depiction of India was disturbing. If I was from India I would certainly not like to see my country in such a bad light. This movie was a big waste of time and money.

This is one of the best directed films I have seen. It is brilliant movie making. However, the film is full of abuse including torture, child abuse and wife abuse. It is hard to watch at times and you can't help but think that all of this really goes on in our world. So the movie is HEAVY! I wish I could say that the love story and great acting compensated for the distress I felt over the harsh themes of the movie, but in my opinion it did not. So if you go to this movie, at least you will know what to expect.

Did not know about this movie other than its 13 Academy Award nominations. Great cinematography, sound, color, terrific script, great casting and acting, and uplifting ending. Is the favorite for Best Picture this year. It is a very revealing portrait of India (including a mini travelogue in part). Also really liked the shots run in the background of the credits. (Stay and watch!) Your attention will not wane. Highly recommended to everyone. Terrific picture.

This was a well-done feel-good movie although it was kind of corny and predictable. I think the difference is the Indian setting and storyline. If this had been set in the U.S., it would have gone straight to DVD. However it is our curiosity about a culture that we only know through Customer Service and mass media stereotypes that puts this movie over the top. It shouldn't win a Best Picture award, but it has won over our hearts and should make us think more about the travails of children of the slave trade.

I had to temper my enthusiasm because everyone I talked to that saw it, thought it was great. I didn't want to go in thinking it was a great movie then be disappointed.
Overall it was an very enjoyable movie. Nice to see something original than another remake of something.
