Not suitable for young children or young teens. It is finally uplifiting at the end but to get there you must see a lot of despair, living very poor, violent people that are taking advantage of the poor, blood and hurt. The actors are super. The children that are playing the main actors when they were young were excellent. Overall well done - I am glad that wife and I went to see this movie that won so many oscars.

I expected a lite comedy about a kid winning a game show. The background stories leading to the main character's knowledge was very clever, and surprisingly, intense. The film draws you in from the beginning until the Bollywood ending. Great.

From beginning to end, the cinematography was creative and well done. The characters were a little underdeveloped; would have liked to have seen more of Latika's. Jamal always had the same open-mouthed, dazed expression on his face. Manipulative and phony filmmaking - just awful. If you like your slums in ravishing technicolor and lit with glamour lighting, you'll love it. If the director could hold his camera still for more than a second, we might actually be able to see and feel what's happening. This was an incredible fast paced movie, from what I've read, based on real situations in India. On the one hand it reminds me of an old fashioned melodrama in which love and good win out over evil. I can understand how this film received eight awards. If the viewer has any compassion for the human condition, the story wrenches your emotions like a roller coaster ride with many corkscrew loops! This movie is about the story and not the acting, although the acting is not poor. Most viewers are watching a movie, while those viewers who have seen some of the deplorable human conditions around the world are watching a documentary. Clearly, I can see why this movie won so many awards! Fantastic, heart-warming story. It pulls you in and keeps you captivated in the story. Has been a long time since I've seen such a GREAT story. And it was told in such a unique way! EXCELLENT MOVIE!

Given current economic problems, a movie that depicts the strength of the human spirit to overcome unbelievable adversity could not have come at a better time.
