This is a fabulous reinvention of the classic 1970's disaster movie genre.
Ok, the plot is thin, but that's not what you really came for, is it? Of course not. You came to see the special effects. I can assure you, you will not be disappointed.
Some people will tell you to wait and see it at home on Blu Ray or DVD. Well, I just don't agree.. This is one movie that NEEDS to be seen on the big screen and the bigger the better. You might be able to reproduve the sound-scape with really top notch audio equipment, but they just don't make a flat screen TV/monitor that can truly visually convey the power of these images. That plus, there is jsut something magical about the theater experience and this kind of movie.

This is definitely a movie to see. Pictures are great, they were able to keep humors through tragedy. I thought it had too many narrow escapes to make it believable. Some of the main characters dying would of made it more realistic. Tina Fey as President Palin might of made a better spin than Danny Glover as Uncle Tom as in Color Me Purple.

I don't understand the nay-sayers of this film. Yes it had unbelievably realistic looking action scenes, but it also had a pretty decent story to back it up. it totally reminds me what it would be like and what humans would act like in a real situation. of course you must formulate your own opinion, but it's certainly the best movie I'VE seen this year! Great graphics. And the trailer acurately depicted the graphics. But, the trailer you see in commercials was the best of the story. Sure there were some scenes that were good but none to make this a must see movie. There were parts of the story that mirrored other movies (Independence Day, Volcanoe, Titanic etc) but the effect was lost in context. Wait for it to come out on DVD..

Agree that the special effects on a wide screen are good cause to go to the theater! This movie is worth seeing in the theaters for all the special effects. You just can't get that at home! All the actors were phenomenal as well. You find yourself holding your breath along the way, but there are a few good laughs appropriately interjected here and there. The ending does seem to be a bit of a let down but when the movie focuses on the end of the world...what do we really expect!

Great family entertainment. My son aged 12 and daughter aged 13 were entranced and my husband did not fall asleep - The 2-1/2 hours passed quickly even though I was waiting for the end credits to hear the Adam Lambert soundtrack. Worth every minute - definitely a must see on the big screen

One of the best sci-fi pic I have ever seen. It is the only one filmed in the style of a rollercoaster ride. It could have been extended into another Battlestar Galatica series. All the characters are personable/real with a potrayal of the true human nature in this type of crisis. YOU WILL NOT BLINK OR GO TO THE BATHROOM during the movie.

I have to say save your ten bucks and wait for the DVD on this one. The first thirty minutes are interesting, and the characters appealing, making you want to stick around and see what happens to them. Too bad the sticking around doesn't pay off. How many times can a family drive just ahead of the road caving in, or fly just a nano second ahead of the building crashing around them. The last two hours of this long movie are filled with painfully loud destruction and nothing but destruction. The actors save the day here. John Cusack is fantastic as always, elicting charm and making us root for him and his family, as are the rest of the formidable actors rounding out the cast. Note to Hollywood..give Cusack more work! He has been missed!

The primary attraction of the movie is its stunningly realistic visuals, but it also manages to present a story line that is refreshingly free of unnecessary convolutions. The plot involves at least 3 intertwined strands involving some moralistic elements, some lighter than others (the point about the people vs. the elite was a bit heavy-handed). The film is full of cliff hangers and there are genuinely humorous moments and romantic developmnts amidst the mayhem. The 2 hours and 38 minutes go by very fast.

The movie was pretty good, but not great. It is worth going to see. The plot has a believable storyline, including the waay the governments of the world plan for the "end of the world as we know it." I'm not a big fan of Woody H., but knowing his public history, I can actually believe his character in the movie. A fact that surprised me and added to the realness of the movie.

The special effects were brilliant and Woody Harrelson was a fun bonus, but the rest of the cast was somewhat average. Definitely worth seeing in theaters just for the special effects but I wouldn't make an evening of it, there's no Oscar nominations here-

1) screenplay 2) Graphics/Animations/background score 3) Child actors are worth watching 4) Breath taking scenes when the world is getting destroyed
Down side 1) Actors selection 2) No clear explanation on what is real cause for 2012 damage

This movie is the best movie I've seen this year, this movie made it feel real, my heart beat as the movie action began to come a live, I felt I was in the movie, my heart kept on bounding as the action started getting closer the end. The year 2112, is still stuck in my head, the persons that wrote and directed this movie deserves the highest accomplishment you can get as a writer or director. five thumbs up for this movie!
