AUSTRALIA - I'm Calling It A "MUST SEE." It's a long movie, 2 and a half hours and should be seen on the Big Screen. It starts out a little slow while all the players are being set up but then it takes off at a pretty good pace and the time seems to go quick. It's worth the 2 and a half hours. My opinion

The movie Australia seems like it should have it all....and it almost does. This is a rousing tale of historical importance told through the lives of an adventurous couple well-played by Jackman and Kidman. They are surrounded by interesting supporting characters - both of good and bad moral fiber. The use of a young aboriginal boy as a central figure and poetic narrator is masterfully done. This epic movie falls short in the following ways: It is too two dimensional, it is too long and it is too hard to hear much of the heavy Aussie accented conversations at times. Worth seeing but better viewed with slightly lower expectations than perhaps we had. A Koala-ty flick overall - just a kangaroo hop from greatness.

Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman were magic together on screen. This is what great acting is all about! Their performance and chemistry were just fantastic!
I thoroughly enjoyed the trip "down under" to an adventurous and exotic world where "Raiders of the Lost Ark" meets "Casablanca" with an aborigine twist!
"Australia" is dramatic, cinematic and an instant classic!

The director wasted at least 1.5 hrs with long boring scenes of people looking longingly at each other alternating with an aborigine standing on one leg.

Very Good Family Movie- The acting of Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman is impressive. The Australian outback and the portrayal of the Aboriginal Australians are remarkable. In addition the history and the involvement of Australia and the Japanes in world war two is exciting . There is also factual portrayal of the effect of European settlement on the infringement the human rights on the Aboriginal natives. The movie is long but worth it. Thumbs up!

This is a good old-fashioned epic film. It can seem a little trite and formulaic at times but the overall effect was sweeping and grand. Special effects were amazing. Definitely worth seeing on the large screen. My film-student daughter loved it.

I loved this movie! It is definitely idiosyncratic, with dramatic (some melodramatic), and comedic elements, but it always stays on the right side of the line. It was highly enjoyable, and very beautiful. All the performances are great, and the little Aboriginal boy's performance is worth the price of admission alone. It is long, and a little bumpy at times, but well worth the ride.

Australia was everything it was promised. Action, romance, history and this beautiful scenery. But most of all was this little boy with the most beautiful eyes, telling his story. Enchanting. I have family in Australia and I will recommend this movie to them as well. I have visited there as well and the film made me want to return there.

This was an excellent movie. I will and already have recommended Australia to a friend. This is not only a Chick Flick but also a movie for the guys. There are lessons on parenting as well as communication. I think they all played their parts wonderfully.

would have been a lot better with a different actress-she is not believable and detracted from the movie-- special effects were not that good and film relied way to much on blue screen and computer animation. some scenes were rushed and not allowed to mature--like they tried to cram everything into a three hour movietoo many plots so none of them were given the time to develop and left me wanting-- worth the watch good story.

I found this "epic" to be very unbelievable, and kind of cheesy at times. It seemed like they were trying to bring up social issues and represent what actually happened in Australian history, but they never quite followed through. I didn't identify or empathize with any of the characters. Even my husband was surprised that I didn't shed a tear.

If it is still ok to go to a movie and just enjoy it this one has committed no crime.
Too bad the the previews made this movie appear to be an epic drama - in fact it is just an enjoyable love story. I thought Hugh Jackman did a good job with this role - good emotion but believable. Nicole Kidman is not a favorite so no comment there.

I've seen better movies on Lifetime. Went in with high expectations and perhaps that's why this soap opera was such a let down. Felt no connection with any characters. Not even the big eyed little boy that at least did a fairly good job with his part as a vicitim of horrible abuses and extreme prejudice. Unfortunately I can't say the same for Kidman who was such a huge bore throughout this film. After 2 hours we just wanted it to end. This movie feels like 3 hours. Except for some beautiful scenic shots and Hugh's sex appeal, this isn't worth the $10 ticket price. Skip it.

It's got it all...it's a romance, a western, a WWII pic, a lesson in tolerance, a travel pic of a beautiful country, all rolled into one. Baz's style is front and center in camera angles, moods, effective and unique passings of time, cinematography. The movie makes you laugh, makes you cry, and teaches you a bit of Australian history you probably never knew. The characters are fully developed and portrayed by all the actors, especially the little boy, who also narrates. Never do you feel like the movie is too long. It really takes you away to a far away time and place and draws you fully in. Thanks for a great film, Baz!
