Heath Ledger is simply stupendous in this installment of Batman--all the more poignant knowing this great talent is no longer with us. This franchise just keeps getting better and better. There are chills, fantastic action sequences, multi-level emotions with key secondary characters, sadness, horror, humour--all packed into one film.

This movie was reviewed and talked about as being amazing way before I saw it. As I was watching the movie I thought ,"this isnt that great of a movie"...but then there was an unexpected twist in the plot.
This movie is phenomenal not just for how it handles Batman, but how it tells the story of its characters. You care about all of them, or in the case of the joker... You want to know how sadistic and sick this guy really is.
The story takes humanity to a whole new level. It not only shows how evil and sadistic we can be, but how we do have good in us. The movie is about choices. Our lifes choices make or break who we are.
For being a multifaceted emotional experience, and giving me something to ponder far beyond when I left the theater, I recommened everyone who appreciates good movie making to see this movie at least once.

Well, I'll keep this short and simple. That movie was probably the best Batman movie so far even though I hate Christian Bale's voice when he's Batman. The star of the film was definitely Heath Ledger. The guy played a role in which he could have easily just come across as silly and annoying but came across as a complete madman down to every single gesture he made. You've gotta see this movie.

In 1986, Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns, along with Alan Moore's Watchmen, changed comic books forever by going darker and delving deeper into the minds of superheroes than anything that had been seen before. In 2008, Chris Nolan's The Dark Knight may do the same thing to comic book movies. This movie is darker than any superhero movie that has come before it, as well as emotionally and thematically complex. To add to the incredible drama are truly incredible action sequences, which were filmed specifically for Imax. If you live anywhere near an Imax theater, see it on Imax, the way it is meant to be seen, and prepare for a movie that really might change things forever as far as superhero/comic book movies go.

I was hopeful, but concerned that the movie would not hold up to the hype. Reviews that are dominated by the performance of an individual sometimes mask a weak movie as a whole... this was certainly not true for "The Dark Knight"!
This was an amazing movie from start-to-finish, top-to-bottom. The story, acting, direction, cinematography and sound were all brilliant. The plot twists were plentiful and maintained the right balance between unpredicatbility and being too over-the-top.
The additional scenes in IMAX were astounding... I've never felt so immersed in a city-scape! The switch between IMAX and "standard" screen were not noticable form a technical perspective (unless you were looking for it).

Before I saw this movie, I had read in reviews that this movie's use of IMAX technology would open peoples' minds to new possibilities in the same manner that The Matrix did so with its effects. The day after, I completely agree. . When you see the scenes with four times the film resolution, combine that with floor to ceiling action, and you instantly know that this is not just another movie - you are watching what could very well be the beginning of a new era of action film. The fact that I have waited this long to mention the characters or the plot is a testament to just how well they stand on their own. I'm not one of those people that is going to say Ledger is awesome and deserves awards simply because he is dead. He deserves them because he is amazing. Now, we may never know the exact reasoning behind his death, but I wouldn't be surprised in the least to believe that he drove himself crazy with this role. He was a f***** madman. . Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent was similarly sincere and twisted and tragic. Gary Oldman as Lt/Comm. Gordon seemed infinitely sincere and trustworthy; the kind of character that really could, alongside Batman, help hold back the evil in the night. And of course, the ever-amazing, endearing Michael Caine is one of the all-time great Alfreds. . What I have to say about Batman may not please some people, but it is my honest opinion; the actual character of batman is intentionally written with very little depth. He is a rich guy by day. He beats up bad guys at night. He has toys. He has rules he never breaks. Bruce Wayne is a plain vanilla guy with the hobby of Vigilante. . If he just ran around using his gizmos to stifle purse-nappings and maybe a bank robbery now and then, he wouldn't be more exciting than MacGyver, and a whole lot more weird. . So to me the fact that Christian Bale was a perfectly-executed BatMan, to me, means this was not an Excellent batman. This, of course, is not Bale's fault; it is the writers' fault. He is somebody you can always count on to follow his rules, and while that makes him honorable and trustworthy, it also makes his character completely predictable. . A predictable character will never make you go, "Wow, I can't believe he just did that!" and with no Wow factor, it's hard to give this character any great complements, except this: He was an ideal Batman, and I hope to see him in the role again soon.

So says Gotham City District Attorney Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) in the latest Batman flick, and this summer's most highly anticipated blockbuster, "The Dark Knight". "The Dark Knight" is the second Batman film directed by Christopher Nolan and the follow-up to 2005's "Batman Begins". While "Batman Begins" was just what this franchise needed to give it new life after the debacle of 1998's "Batman & Robin", "The Dark Knight" is not only the best Batman film ever made but, dare I say, the best superhero film ever made. Yes, this film even beats out the original "Superman" from 1978. The acting is great, the script is great, the action sequences are great, and everything else about this film is great. For all those reading this, believe the hype. This film is just as good, if not better than critics and others have been saying. Is this film a life-changing event? No. But is it a film you will not soon forget? Yes. Let's start with the obvious, the late-Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker. One word, captivating. Or at least that's the first word that pops into my mind after seeing his take as the Clown Prince of Crime. Every second Ledger is on screen, my eyes and attention were totally on his every move. Ledger's Joker is not in it for laughs, he just wants to cut your heart out and laugh while he's doing it. Heath Ledger gives an electrifying, stunning performance as the Joker, and creates one of the most menacing, total wack-job cinema performances ever. His performance is unforgettable and the stuff of legend. With all due respect to the great Jack Nicholson, and the late, great Cesar Romero, Heath Ledger completely makes the Joker his own, and his performance outshines all other TV and movie performances of the Joker, hands down. Aaron Eckhart does a fine job as Harvey Dent/Two Face, and Christian Bale is a very capable Batman, and does even better as Bruce Wayne. Bale delves even deeper into the tortured soul of Bruce Wayne than he did in "Begins", thanks largely to a better script and more screen time as Batman's alter ego. The film clocks in at 152 minutes, but it absolutely does not feel like it. "The Dark Knight" is a very fast-paced, quick-moving film that really should be seen twice to fully enjoy it. The cinematography is stunning and epic in it's scope, and it is best to view this picture in IMAX to get the full force of the film. There is a scene early in the film where Batman is perched on a large skyscraper overlooking Honk Kong, and at the IMAX screening I attended it felt as if I was actually up on that tall building perched right next to Batman himself. This is a very dark film that is not for children, so be advised if you are a parent thinking about letting your child see this. Younger kids will have a hard time following the story, let alone avoid being scared out of their minds. In fact, this may be the most lenient "PG-13" film I've ever seen. This movie, at least in my opinion, should have been rated "R". Not a hard "R", but an "R" none-the-less. To wrap it up, let me say that this film was an absolute pleasure to watch, and I look forward to seeing it again. "The Dark Knight" is a triumph from start to finish. Do yourself a favor, watch this movie and go watch it soon.

This is a great movie, but not really made for the under age 15 crowd . Its quite long and there is some brutal violence in it. However, that said; it is the best film I have seen all year and lives up to the hype. Also, it has the best magic trick involving a pencil that I have ever seen. If you can, see it in IMAX as it is sooooo worth the long trip to see it in that format.

the only drawback to my experience was that my imax is new and was just built in a recenltly cleared area surrounded by woods and they aren't quite prepared to combat the bugs that are drawn to projector. imax picture was brilliant and sharp. so sharp in fact that i could pick out how many and what kind of insect was on screen. annoying. if your theater or imax does not have this problem, or even if it does, you must see this. pg-13 is an accurate rating, but if you're taking your kids, remember its very dark and devious. on with the praises: best movie this year by far. darker and more devious than the first one. plot is about on par with mission impossible only easier to follow, impecible directing. heath ledger (r.i.p.) was an amazing joker, even if you're a die hard nicholson fan. this movie alltogether actually exceeded all expectations i had for it. i think they may have painted themselves into a corner on this one because i don't see how they could possible make a third anywhere near as good. this movie is a rare accomplishment

Heath Ledger is absolutely amazing in this movie. Never have I seen a more convincing psychopath. The movie will keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time.

The movie starts out with a bang and is a very fun and action packed movie. I enjoyed it a lot. I thought that Ironman was going to be best superhero boy was I wrong. The joker was my favorite character man Ledger was great in that movie. You will definetly get your $ worth!

This is a strong movie, full with entertainment at every turn. The characters are wonderfully developed and very real. The moral divides are through every character and storyline, and it all comes together beautifully. It is a fantastic movie-going experience.

At this point it may seem like it's over stating the obvious, but The Dark Knight was such a brilliant film, I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. Seeing it on IMAX took all the movie and kicked it up a notch. The scenes shot for IMAX exploded onto the screen with pleanty of eye candy. Ariel shots of cityscapes were dizzying. It is also worth noting that the sound system was booming, being a perfect partner with the amazing picture. It's been awhile since a movie had had me on the edge of my seat. Nothing was predictable. I was totally engrossed with the character's and their stories. All of this from a superhero movie? All of this from a BATMAN movie? It's true. Nolan set out to prove that Batman was a series that could be taken seriously, and while he got pretty close with Batman Begins, The Dark Knight puts the argument to bed. See this movie.

Anyone who is a fan of the comics will not be disapointed. The characters are great in the movie and very true to the Dark Knight. For others, they will enjoy it just as much. The action is thrilling and their are lots of emotional subplots

Usually when a movie has this much hype it tends to be a let down because your expectations are so high. That is not the case with The Dark Knight. This movie is an epic masterpiece that emboddies everything that is Batman. Christopher Nolan is a masterful creator whose skill rivals if not suppasses Scorsese and Spielberg. The cast is at the top of their game delivering performances that only they and noone else could deliver. This film cannot be classified as a comic book movie, because I have never seen a comic book movie that should at the very least have oscar nominations like this one. This movie is a work of art and I challenge anyone to say otherwise. If you havent seen it, go watch it. If you have already seen it, go watch it again.

This will be more of a word of warning for parents then an actual review of the film. As an adult who grew up loving Batman I can easily say this is the best telling of one of his stories put on film. If you love Batman or even if you're just a fan of action crime drama, you will love this film.
However, for parents with young children that wish to see this film I suggest they screen it themselves first and make the decision if their children should see it yet. This is a violent film..not excessive but, disturbing. Through out the movie Batman is forced to make choices that are not as simple as right and wrong, they more the lesser of two evils type choices. This has dire consequences for the main characters and changes them as the film progresses. It is also a long film with adult themes that may leave those with shorter attention spans a little restless.
Don't take my review as negative, I loved this movie more than I can say. In this day and age though when movies seem to be made to sell toys, they are marketing to the wrong demographic.
