What can I say about this film that hasn't already been said? It is great. Here's why I'm leaving this review: I've seen this film 3 times in "normal" theaters before seeing it on IMAX. The difference is astounding. First, the sound was bombastic. This is how a movie should sound! More important than the sound however was the visual aspect. The city shots are sprawling. Being a much larger screen, I noticed so much more detail in everything. I would recommend The IMAX Experience wholeheartedly over a normal showing.

Let me start by saying The Dark Knight is a fantastic movie. I went to the opening night 11:59PM screening at a normal theater and thoroughly enjoyed the movie. Last night I had the opportunity to see The Dark Knight: The IMAX Experience with a friend. I bought the tickets in advance on MovieTickets.com knowing that it would sell out, and then showed up 40 minutes prior to the start time to get good seats. When I arrived I went to the box office to pick-up my tickets and I was surprised to find that the seating was assigned. This was my first IMAX experience so I do not know if seating is always predetermined or if it was just this movie. It was frustrating to get to a movie early and have plenty of great seats available yet have to sit three rows from the front and to the far left. I tried to ask the usher the reasoning behind the assigned seating and she had no idea. As the minutes passed the theater started to fill and as the lights dimmed people continued to walk up and down the stairs loudly looking for their seats. The previews started and people continued to struggle to find their seats. When the movie actually began an argument over whose seat was whose broke out directly in front of our seats. It lasted for the first 10 minutes of the movie, with multiple ushers trying to sort out the mess. It finally ended when two uniformed Providence Police officers had to come in and figure out what was going on. Overall the IMAX Experience was a disappointment. The assigned seating seemed to only cause problems. If I had not already seen the movie I would have had no idea what happened in the first 10 minutes of the movie. I write this not as a complaint, but to warn and raise awareness of other movie-goers.

Everything about this movie was great. I kept wondering what could they possibly do now to keep this movie so great and they figured something out. IMAX is the only way to see this as the sound effects and clarity of the screen make all the difference. Suggest this to everyone even people that aren't fans of Batman.

IMAX HD Screen and Sound were very much showcased by this movie. Wow! Not all seats are the same in IMAX - Go early! Better disclosure with regards to smaller children and elderly should be done. The movie met the expectation created by all the hype. Great show! Tons of violence with implicit and explicit killing - careful with toddlers & small children - Also: very loud, which can become an issue as the movie is long.

I went into this movie as a lifelong Batman fan with the highest of expectations, fully anticipating to be disappointed in some way . . . and was completely, entirely blown away. I've been telling everyone I know, "Go see this movie. Go see this movie even if you don't normally like superhero movies. Go see this movie even if you don't like Batman. And make the effort to see it in IMAX. You will not regret it." I often watch movies and, in my mind, recall other motion pictures that remind me of it or have the same mood or spirit. I was surprised by the movies that "The Dark Knight" made me think about, because they weren't normally thought of as being in the same genre. "Serpico." "The French Connection." "Bullitt." But this is not to say that people who enjoy the traditional superhero movie won't love this movie, too. Eventually, I realized the truth -- that "The Dark Knight" is unlike any movie I have ever seen before. It is in the same spirit and mindset as "Batman Begins" and yet is light-years beyond it. Everyone talks about Ledger and Bale and Freeman and Oldman and Caine, but I think that I was most impressed by Christopher Nolan's choice to use William Fitchner, a very strong and recognized character actor, in such a minor role as the mob bank administrator that isn't on the screen for very long. That says volumes to me about Nolan's committment to make sure that every single small, tiny detail of this movie shined with a high gloss, visually and intellectually and emotionally. I never thought that I would be able to say this and actually mean it in every aspect, but "The Dark Knight" just might be the perfect motion picture, because it so completely fulfills the promise of every motion picture: to take the viewer to another world, make them believe that world is real . . . and make them not want to leave. Two and a half hours? The best thing I can say is . . . it was way too short.

A+, knocked out of the park, smok'in movie. If you're a fan of the original Batman comics this movie is a must. The Dark Knight is the best batman to date. None of that silly Batman & Robin... "Holly Sissyboy, Batman", crap... just hardcore dark good vs darker evil with a kick'n plot. An awesome move and IMAX made the experience larger than life. Ledger owned this role, he took the joker and made him one of the most believable sociopathic, criminal, masterminds ever devised. Bale was superb as the Dark Knight. Mentally torn by the choices he is forced to make, you really felt the conflict without feeling like they had to spell it out for the idiots in the audience. Outstanding job by all involved in this movie. It is one of the best movies to come out of Hollywood in some time.

It was as good as all the critics (professional and not) built it up to be. Some have said it's too long, but I didn't want it to end. It may have helped that I had been warned that there was an "ideal" ending about 90 minutes into it, and to expect a lot more after it. All actors did a fantastic job, but lost in the hype was the job Aaron Eckhart did. Very good "transition".

Heath Ledger would definitely deserve an oscar for this role. Would have liked to see more interplay between batman and joker directly (and more joker generally, less Dent). I thought some of the character development in Batman Begins was allowed to fall off.

I never been to an experience such as this. With IMAX and the combination of the Dark Knight brought about something truly magnificent to watch. Also, Heath Ledger will win an oscar no matter what.

This movie is not only the best superhero film ever, but it also stands on it's own as a brilliantly put together film. The acting is genuine and Ledger's joker is genius. The story is very interesting and dispite the 2 and a half hour movie length you will never be bored. This is Batman and Heath Ledger is the ultimate joker. They even nailed the look of two-face pretty much to the comics. You will be stunned. Easily one of the greatest, well acted and smartest put together films of all time.

The cast was excellent, particularly Heath Ledger. It's a testament to his acting ability when you want the bad guy to be in as many scenes as possible. His interpretation of the Joker as a mad philosopher anarchist made the character multi-dimensional. Always great performances by Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman and Morgan Freeman. Aaron Eckhart was very likeable. The IMAX experience was terrific. Wish it had been a little shorter.

This is definitely the best movie this year so far, the best movie this summer, the best superhero movie, the best gangster/crime film, and one of the best movies of all time. An instant classic. This film deserves all of the accolades it's getting and more. It should be nominated for best picture, director, original or adapted screenplay, supporting actor (Heath Ledger), visual effects, cinematography, editing, sound effects editing, sound, score, costume design, make-up, and any other nominations that it merits. This movie was such a realistic gangster/crime film that you would've thought that Michael Mann or Martin Scorsese directed it. There are some minor flaws like Batman overdoing his raspy voice, some continuity errors, and lack of visible injuries in some scenes because it's PG-13, but none of those minor missteps take away from the overall experience. Heath Ledger's Joker blows away Jack Nicholson's performance. Heath's Joker is such a psychopathic murdering terrorist that he still freaks me out. There are some great scenes that will haunt you regarding his sinister intentions and almost every line he says is a great quote that will be remembered as time goes by. Can't wait until they make another one, but this one is going to be hard to top.

Every actor from Bale to Ledger give performances that have been seldom captured on film, performance that make you forget that they are action. The Batman/Joker rivalry is is epic Christ vs the devil, and Ledger performance is one that is so unbelievable that it's a tragedy that such brilliance by him will never be seen again, and all the Oscar talk is not just fan hype, this performance was truly Oscar worthy. All in all, Not only does the film entertain, it goes far beyond that and makes the viewer reflect on a larger scope. This movie has it all, from flipping an 18-wheeler, high speed chases in a Lamborghini and the ever cool Batpod, to classic heroism against pure, unchained evil, to fallen heroes, this film is a master piece of film worth every last bit of praise it receives.

Think of the greatest movie ou have ever seen... done? Ok now multiply the goodness by 1,000,000,000,000,000. The Lines were better than 300, the action was beter than indiana joes, and the effects were mind blowing. I personally recommend seeing it in iMax

Only saw it yesterday and I'm still reeling (see review title). That being said, not seeing it in IMAX at least once is missing the opportunity of, maybe, a generation - can't really go into too much detail why it's so effective without blowing plot points, but if you're able to pay attention to the fluctuating screen size (from IMAX to regular and back) while following the plot as well, you'll have an infinitely more rewarding experience. As far as being appropriate for kids - no. Joker's not as scary (with the makeup on, the character's psychosis is a bit more explainable) as Harvey's transformation into Two-Face (seriously, I'm still thinking about it and shuddering). But if you're old enough to see it without parental accompaniment, it's at least the best big-screen (I went with my Mom and she wants to see it in IMAX again just to catch the shifts in screen size) experience of the summer, if not an Oscar showcase for Heath Ledger. That being said, I might need to see it in a regular theater at least once to get the whole story (there's been so much hype over this movie and so much fanboy/girl adoration and it threatens to overshadow the fact that this really is one for the ages).

A first for a major theatrical release, segments of the movie(about 30 min., the introduction of the Joker, major fight scenes) are filmed in the widescreen format. The film is a spectacular achievement, technically and artistically. If you want to see this movie as it was filmed(in part, at least), spend the extra 3USD. The visual joys to be found are spectacular.
