If I hadn't read the book I would not have liked the movie. Some of the parts were a bit cheesy. The acting was so-so and a bit comical (when it wasn't supposed to be) at times. I liked the movie only because I had read the book. It moved very fast. My teenage daughters did not read the book and thought the movie was stupid. They don't want to read the book after seeing the movie first. Hopefully the actors will mature in their acting abilities in the next movie. I can't wait to see New Moon!

Thank God the movie stayed on storyline with the book. I imagine mass chaos of 500 teenage girls storming the theatre had it not. The cast was perfect. Jacob, Charlie, Rose, Bella, Edward, Emmit, Carlisle, Esme, even her school friends... The lighting and depressing depiction of the town of Forks was spot on. I was thrilled and giddy as a school girl. I had to stop myself many times from leaning over and giving my date the inside scoop. However, he really enjoyed the movie anyhow without having read the books.
I will be seeing it again! I look forward to buying the dvd. GO TEAM EDWARD!

Where I live every single girl is in love with Edward Cullen. They've all read the books or are reading the books. Me? I've just heard about it. When I got a phone call to go, yes I was excited but I had no idea how wonderful it would be. While in the movie theater my friend was freaking out and I was kinda wondering why. I soon figured out. The whole idea is so great. I mean how many movies have to do with vampires?? It was awesome and I'm ready to see it again and start reading book number 1.

I am 33 and took my daughter and her friend to see the movie last night. I absolutely loved it. I do think you must read the book before you see it and was thrilled with the movie version. I would go see it again today but our theaters are sold out until next week. I would talk more specifically about it but I don't want to spoil it for those that have not seen it yet. The most important aspect to remember, this is an adaptation of the book. Try to remember the time constraints and you will not be disappointed. The actors were great and I loved seeing my favorites in the flesh. Can't wait to see it again and anxiously awaiting to see the sequels!

I took my 15 year old daughter to see this along with several of my friends that are obsessed with the Twilight series. I had not read the book and was really not interested. I am a huge reader but the story just did not seem like my thing. So, I saw the movie as a complete "Twilight Virgin" and I loved it! I disagree with an earlier reviewer suggesting that you will not "get" the movie if you have not read the book. The movie was well done and it was no problem following along. I am sure the books, like all books, provide great character development and deep story lines, but the movie stands on its own quite well!

I enjoyed this movie. I read all the books within a two week period and couldnt wait to see the movie. Im 22 and took my 29 yr old husband to watch it . Who has btw never read the books and loved the movies. I though the acting was good but went way too fast trew it. Skipping major things and changing others. I would have really enjoyed watching the original start to the prom instead of what was put in there . But all in all it was a good movie. I cant wait for the next one

I am a youth services librarian and have read all the books in the series. With the exception of one teen in our movie-going group, everyone else had read it, too. Though the non-reader didn't "get it" on the same level as everyone else, she still loved it. The book is way too detailed to put in 2 hours, but the high points were covered very well. We ALL LOVED IT!!! I am 44 and in love with a 17 year old vampire! I can't wait to go again!!!

I thought they did a very good job in sticking to the book. The minor changes worked very well with the original plotline. I thought Rob and Kristen were smoking on screen :) The Forks students were perfect! Jasper and Alice left something to be desired for me. Esme and Carlisle were so good! Emmett and Rosalie were awesome!! by far my favorite. The sun scene did nothing for me. The evil vamps added a good edge. Overall two thumbs up!

While the movie was somewhat different from the book, it stayed true to most of the important parts. I am totally going to see this one again and buy it when it comes out on dvd.
Rob did an awesome job playing Edward. Kristen was a great Bella.
Can't wait for the New Moon.

I must say as a mother and someone who read all the books. I wasn't sure it the movie could deliver. Well it does!!!!! I agree it is even better if you have read the book first but not completely necessary. There is still plenty to fall in love with. I have seen it twice already and will go again. I'm hearing the same from many others my young age of 40 and older.This young cast delivers and brings these characters to life.
I hope they will bring the other 3 books to the big screen soon.
Is the movie as good as the book? No! not possible its only a 2 hour movie. But it works. Go see "Twilight"..... today

Spectacular....the movie stuck to the book. Some things were a bit out of order but overall it was all there anyways. Only a few minor disapointments,,....but then again im a Twihard and i was prolly amonng the few that noticed. GREAT MOVIE,,,,,HOT GUYS....what more can you ask for?!?!!?

Though some things are altered from the book, it stayed true to it's roots and the only drawback was the HOARD of screaming teenage girls we had to wade through to get our seat. Every time a character was introduced, there would be gasps, claps, and screams. UGH. But, it was WELL WORTH THE TWEEN MAYHEM. I loved it. My husband, surprisingly, loved it. I was worried that the love between Edward and Bella wouldn't come across enough to justify her being ok that he was a vampire, but the chemistry was palpable. Incredible. Fantastic. I can't wait for the second.

The movies overall plot seemed to be a good one and was probably an excellent book, however, from a strictly cinematic standpoint the acting, production and overall experience reminded me of many of the "B" flicks I have had to endure on Lifetime for Women. The 98% female population in the theater I was in seemed to enjoy the movie but if you're the male escort taking your wife and daughter to see this, do yourself a favor: Get them seated and then go back outside and count popcorn kernels on the floor. You'll get much more out of that!!

This was an excellent movie, especially for those of us who have read the books. I am very pleased with the amount of the book that actually made it into the movie. For those who haven't seen it, this movie is pretty safe for the family with few if any curse words used. The subject matter of the books gets a little serious after this movie but this first one should be okay for many of the young girls in your house.

We read all 4 books...love the series. The movie was good! Movies never meet your expectations after reading the book. This one was close. They left out so many great parts, but how could they fit it all in? I did think Jasper, and sometimes Edward, looked a little "Edward Scissorhandish". I think the directing of their facial expressions could have been better. I also wish Edward would have lightened up more. He seemed to always be just on the edge.

The Twilight trailer on television first caught my attention. I saw the book in the grocery store and decided to read it. WOW! I was captivated by the love story and decided that I had to see the movie. If it hadn't been for the book, there may have been scenes I wouldn't have understood. Then again, having read the book first, I can't really say that with 100% certainty. My sister, who hasn't read the book, saw it with her family (4 boys) and they loved it. I will definitely watch it again when there's a chance I can sneak in when the theater might be a little quieter. Notice: be prepared for screams, oohs and ahhs, and dialogue quoting from the pre-teen/young teen fan base.

Usually when a movie is made on a book I love I sit in the theatre and pick apart the movie. I walk out thinking it was the worst thing ever made and they really shouldnt have messed with the book that way. But suprisingly I didnt with this movie. I love it. I did feel that if you DIDNT read the book you would be lost and may not get it. You may not understand some of the emotions Bella and Edward are feeling. I loved the way the actor portrayed Edward at the beginning when he first encounters bellas smell. I laughed at times, I was on the edge of my seat other times. I walked out wanting to see it all over again. And that in itself says a lot.

the movie was good, but of course,
the book is always better than the movie.
I didn't expect the funny parts to be in this movie,
but i liked it.
Compared to the book,
the movie was too fast & too short.
In the book, it took weeks for Bella and Edward to develop their relationship,
but in the movie, it felt like it took a couple days. I also felt the plot needed to be stretched out, take more time and put more stuff in it.
Bella's acting wasn't the greatest,
but it was still good. I'll be buying the
movie when it comes out of course.

I have read all the books in the Twilight series and will be probably the only person to write a negative review of this movie.
Several things about this movie really was disappointing to me. First, the movie was no where near long enough. Everything was too rushed. Secondly, I was really disappointed that the direction of the movie strayed so far away from the story in some parts and others, followed exactly. Also, I was really disappointed in Bella's character.
I would probably go see it again and will certainly see the others to come. I just hope that next time, they stay close to the story that has already been written and they extend the length of the movie.

I haven't read any of the books, and knew nothing about the story, but I still found this very enjoyable - made me think, laugh, and feel sad - so, emotional, even though I was only getting to know the characters as they appeared, and not through the books. I think if you see the movie, you will then be inspired to definitely go and read the books. Also, I thought the acting was superb - very natural and real, and it would have been very easy to overplay these roles.

Awesome movie....must see for teens and tweens... of course we read the book prior to seeing the movie.......if you love the Twilight Series then you will love this movie as it follows the book almost exactly...I am not sure how much of the movie would be hard to follow if you haven't read the book but these characters ROCK!!! I was worried about how I would like the movie based on the reviews in the paper....go see it!! My 13 year old daughter LOVED IT and the entire theatre was cheering for Edward and Bella!!
