Although the movie was entertaining with some great dancing, and singing, if you're looking for a movie with a plot this isn't the one for you. The 90 + minute movie tracks the lives of a number of kids from New York's School of Performing Arts from their initial auditions to graduation. Unfortunately there is not enough time to really develop any of the characters or story lines in any real depth. For those of us that remember the TV show from the 80's, this was a far cry from what was hoped for.

I was disappointed to see that there was no real story or plot, just a lot of dancing the whole movie. Nothing ever really happened, just little dramatic scenes here or there. The dancing was amazing, don't get me wrong---that in it of itself kept me through the two hour movie; but if you're looking for a little more substance, this isn't it. Short amounts of time were focused on several characters, and I would of liked to see more time spent going into depth about one or two characters. Overall, definitely something you can simply wait to rent.

One shouldn't walk in to this movie expecting the best movie ever made, because movies like this are aimed at a very specific audience, and will probably never win any Academy Awards. However, I did enjoy it: it was a light-hearted, quick-moving, fun remake.
If you have deep attachments to the original 80's film, then you probably won't like this version: obviously the plot is a little different, all but a few songs are different, but it is entertaining. Naturi Naughton's version of "Out Here on My Own" gave me chills in a good way.
I think the changes the writers and director made to the movie are appropriate for the audience and generation they are trying to reach. As stated earlier, it's a fun, light-hearted flick.

I was so excited to see this movie. There was very little dancing. Maybe one really good dance scene. The music didn't do anything for me. Usually you walk out seeing the tunes, not with this movie. The characters weren't well developed. I loved the original Fame and they really did't go the movie justice. The main singer Denise was the best part of the movie. She has an amazing voice and I'm sure we will hear more from her.
I was really depressed when I left the movie. It was really that bad.

I love dance movies...all dance movies! Even if they contain thin plot lines and marginal acting. This movie was a bit disappointing because some of the acting was cringe-worthy, the stories lines were never really fleshed out, and there wasn't enough dancing. And, as for the finale... the moment all dance movie lovers wait for...it was okay. No emotion. I would rent it or maybe see the matinee, I would definitely not pay to see this again.

It's not the original fame. No. But it stands out as a viable movie about a changed industry. Each of the characters goes through difficult times and each faces some tough choices. I thought the actors all did a great job. All in all, I gave it 3 stars because though it's not the movie of the year, it touched my heart and that was really because of the standout performances--especially the cameo from Megan Mullally.

I read many reviews online that made the new FAME to be the worst movie ever, well it is not the worst nor is it terrible. I enjoyed it as much as I do most good movies. It's totally not Oscar worthy but it deserves more credit for being a good movie with some great talent in it. The Dancing is great and the characters are likable. This version of FAME is a family friendly version with some adult language. I do warn parents that some children may not be suitable to watch this, some may not understand whats going on. I do recommend this to anyone who were fans of the original or of the series.

The movie is a little dark - if you are not a Theatre, Dance, or Music major you may be bored. It was really fun at our Theater because the local Performing Arts HS did a performance in front of the theater before the movie and then they all came to see it. They cheered, clapped, and added to the 'soundtrack' of the movie. If not for them, I would have fallen asleep. It was a dark, no color film that otherwise would have plodded along with out the bonus of live students in the theater.

If you are 13 to 21 and never saw the original version of Fame, I am sure you will enjoy this film.... as for all of us that saw the original in the 80's this version cannot hold a flicker to the original and I for one was extremely disappointed. Even the old soundtrack was not meshed in.... Too bad.

So, I've seen the old movie, I've seen the tv show, and I've seen Fame on broadway. This movie came nowhere close to any of them. The dancing was great, and the singing was great (except for one total cheese number) but the plot and the character development were awful!! And I mean awful! AWFUL! If there wasn't singing and dancing happening (which wasn't nearly enough) then it was so BORING! Wait for the dvd.

this had to be one of the worst movies of the year and i'm not joking, stretching the truth, or playing around. Save your money. It wouldn't have even been a good TV show. There was no plot, no character development, and lacked acting talent. If you want to feel like you sold an hour and a half of your life for $10 and got nothing in return go see it.

I expected more, but the talent displayed was phenomenal.
The plot was rushed in many places. And thin in other places. I really felt that there could have been more meat to this than, talented kids, who go to school. I wanted more struggle, or at least more storyline with the existing struggles.

Went and saw it at 12:01am and I am still in shock! I couldn't have expected that. I just wanted a little bit more dancing and sometimes it was hard to follow, not to mention I don't know any of there names. I guess that what happens when I don't see the old one first lol!!!

I was there, 12.01, Thursday night to see the remake of FAME. I loved it. All the audience appeared to love it, as we gasped at the emotion, laughed with the humor and cheered at the remarkable singing and dancing. Allison Burnett has written a great script, very moving and a story we have all waited for since 1980.
I have one thing to say. Go see FAME. You will leave smiling and singing and maybe even exhilarated. I did!
