'Nine' appeared to be a heroic attempt at being a great film, but it didn't quite make the grade. It had great stars and equally great acting, but most of the musical numbers were old, tired, and not nostalgia inspiring, and some of the lip-synching was very poor. The story itself was messy and confused. 'Nine' is probably great as a play, but it didn't translate well to the big screen. The movie had a few high points, but not enough to recommend seeing.

The location is beautiful- but that's about it. I found myself wondering when something- ANYthing- would happen since there was virtually no plot. Basically, you watch a tortured genius try to get over his creative blocks through his liasions & fantasies. Whoopee. So self indulgent. There is no character development- so little in fact that the audience doesn't care for anyone, except possibly his wife. Watching DDL play the tormented soul gets really old really fast. The women are on & off for such short periods that we don't really care about them either. And we don't understand why they would care about this man who just uses people over & over again. Sadly, I couldn't wait for the whole movie to be over!

I was sure I wouldn't like this movie but to my surprise I thoroughly enjoyed it. The singing and dancing were exciting and a lot of fun. I wouldn't buy the CD but I'd watch the movie again.

I saw this on Broadway with Antonio Banderas and was amazed that Rob Marshall did a fantastic job puttng this story on the big screen! The music was great! Actors did a great job! Loved the scenery and and costumes. I would highly recommend this movie to anyone who likes broadway shows! Bravo Nine!

I was soooo glad when this movie finally ended. The songs were lame and boring. The dancing was good and the ladies were very attractive but it wasn't enough to make up for having to watch almost two hours of Daniel Day Lewis acting like a tortured, totally disyfunctional, unshaven artist with osteoporosis. He was about as good at singing and dancing as Richard Gere was in Chicago and should know better. Don't waste your money on this disaster. You're more likely to have a good time watching a movie that you pick out blindfolded from the favorites section at Block Buster.

This is an excellent musical movie. I am not a big fan of musical movies but this was great. The only thing that I have problem with this is not a PG13 movie and not for kids under 18. My husband and I enjoyed it a lot.....

I really enjoyed it and thought it was fun. Not nearly good as Chicago, but I went in with such low expectations after reading other reviews, that I ended up being pleasantly surprised. These one star reviews to me are so interesting because I could see a three star or two star, but it certainly wasn't along the lines of Transformers!

Nine is the antithesis of a Hollywood musical. Based on Felinni's 8 1/2, it is a surreal reflection on Fellini's struggle with creative block and failed relationships. Do not go expecting another Chicago, its meant to be deeper and more European. Sophia Loren is amazing as are Marion Cotillard, Fergie, Kate Hudson, and Penelope Cruz. Daniel Day-Lewis does an incredible take on Fellini and his director's angst. When everyone expects genius and you feel empty what is left but fear, facade, and fraud. Powerful but not for everyone.

Man, my friends and I were so disappointed! We thought it would wow us like "Chicago" but nothing could be further from that. The story was sooooo weak, I really did not give one hoot about Guido or anyone else in the movie. I liked Kate Hudson's number, but it was, as my boyfriend Tony said, like watching "Cats". Alot of big numbers with little to no story tying it together. Believe me, when 5 "single" men all hate a musical, it must be bad. Even my 7 year old son, who loves musicals, said "yawn!" Skip it, don't rent it, don't buy it, just run the other way.

Musicals are not in my list of movies to see except when my wife orders me to go. This was one of those movies. I was pleasantly surprised by Kate's dancing scene (actually stimulating) and by Penelope's dance. Other than that, it's not for the average Joe, or Jorge in my case. The opening of the movie was terrible -- practically a rehash of Cabaret -- especially Judi Dench singing of the Folies Bergere-
it got somewhat better, especially wiith Cotillard as the wife of the director. But who could sympathize with the director? What a whining oinker!
Kate Hudson was good, Nicole Kidman was wasted and did not follow through with her rejection-- the plot is "How I learned to stop smelling and love the Dirtbag-- " Even the wife succumbed to his dubious charms in the end. I feel sorry that Day-Lewis had to endure the script. One high note was Sophia Loren -- she is astounding. Dench was excellent when not singing, and Cotillard was excellent-- hence the two stars. Chicago was light years better.

This movie is sizzling...........the most cinematically creative movie I've seen in a long time. It's use of lighting, black & white flashbacks, and thoughts in action were award winning. I will predict that Daniel Day-Lewis will win an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor and lighting, cinematography and editing will get some serious looks too. Rob Marshall knows how to direct a musical which we don't see many of these days, and the Weinstein Brothers know where to put their money. This is a hot, steamy, sultry movie of passion of all kinds. Go see it with a guy you want to seduce!

This movie was beautifully produced, with great attention to detail and a fantastic ensemble cast. I was really impressed by how well everyone could sing, though Fergie's number was clearly a standout.
The story itself, however, is a bit odd; it's not nearly as linear as, say, Chicago (which Rob Marshall also directed). It's essentially about a director (Day-Lewis) who's looking for inspiration.
All in all, I'd say any one who was a fan of a great show will probably like this--it does take after Chicago in production values. If you're looking for an easy to follow or obvious plot, though, this one will probably be a bit puzzling.

Very well done, technically superb, A movie of a play of a movie. The Academy ought to go bonkers for this one, as it has so many dramatic elements so well contrived and woven in. Day-lewis doesa a great job w/ the tormented genius. Lots of leg and clevage too, all-star cast. This show is a winner.

If it were not for all the great eye candy this movie would be a flop. But when you have the fantastic women this movie had you look at it even if it was just about the goofiest thing ever produced. This is a must for a Chick date flick for you guys that want to be "Sensitive" and get lucky later. Just be careful later when your wife or girl friend ask you which one of the hot women the screen remind you of her. (Don't go there) ha ha.

I enjoyed this musical a lot. It's very European which I like. It's like being in Guedo's head, normally I don't like those types of films but to me it worked well in this film. Go in with a open mind and you won't be disappointed.

I was expecting more since it was the same director as Chicago but the storyline was difficult to follow. Musical performances were nice but with the extensive cast, you might be disappointed since they appear to infrequently except for Daniel Day-Lewis. Marion Cotillard appeared more than Nicole Kidman but Nicole gets top billing and has less than a page of script to read.

This was a lush, sensual film version of the Broadway musical of the same title. My friends and I agreed that you need to enjoy this film for the beauty of the sets, locations, and costumes, sensuality of the women, and talent of the actors cast in their respective roles.

Very disappointing. Almost went to sleep as it was slow. The dance numbers were ok but the plot just dragged along. There are no memorable songs, either. I was looking for Chicago...
