I really really enjoyed this movie. There were a few (miniscule) things that were incorrect but other than that I love the way they intepreated the book. The humor is great. One of my favorite scenes is when Harry tries to cheer up Hermione and he dances with her. Funny stuff! Also I love how they did the end of the movie! No spoilers though srry :)

As far as sticking to the book goes, this book was pretty spot on. The plan to split it into 2 parts was well implemented and I could not see them fitting in the rest of the book into that small time frame. I loved the grittiness and darkness of this movie. It is a huge departure from the children's story of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Along with the book this movie has taken a very dark turn. Sure there may not be as much action as most of the previous installments, but stat tuned for Part 2!

Wow. That's all I can say. The best Harry Potter movie yet. Wow. I went into the theater with high expectations, and it definitely exceeded them. I was blown away with the effects, acting, filming, the sets, you name it. This is a must see for everybody, wether it be a diehard Harry Potter fan or someone who just wants to go to the movies.
Trust me, you will not be disappointed.

our family has been HP since the beginning. I thought this one was drawn out, tons of pauses between lines, didn't follow the book as well as other movies. Big parts missing that could have been included if we didn't watch HP , Hermoione and Ron sigh so much. If you didn't read the book, you would have never known what was happening. You have ot see it if your an HP fan, but I hope Part II is not as draggy.

David Yates is taking the franchise out on a high. Awesome film, true to the story and excellent performances by Daniel, Emma and Rupert. Definitely seeing this again. Can't wait till the big finale this summer.

As expected this first part of the Deathly Hallows movie gave us great effects, lots of suspense, and a few unexpected humor moments. It closely follows the book and is of course, much "darker" than the previous movies; as was expected. Harry is on his quest to do what he needs to do to carry out his mission. Loved watching it and wish that part two was next month instead of July! Looking forward to the conclusion!

I met my son (29) downtown (we ditched work) to see it the first day. This is a great and wonderful departure from the earlier days. The story continues with the young adult cast, action packed and will not disappoint.
My son was awstruck, we both think its the best Potter movie yet.
I just could not have imagined it would take such an exciting turn.

This is a very good move with solid action and tension. There are sacrifices made that both matter and hurt for the main characters. Though the movie is very good, it is also very dark. Parents, if you have a child under the age of 8, please carefully consider leaving your kid with a sitter for the night. If your child is under the age of 5, it would be irresponsible of you to take him to this movie. The woman next to me in the theater had two kids under the age of six in the theater with her, and this was NOT the movie for them to be in . This is not happy/magical/wonderous Harry Potter. This is serious Potter vs. Voldemort endgame stuff. People die. Good movie, but parents, please use discretion.

The movie started with everyone cheering and applauding. It ended with maybe a handful of claps. This movie, like the last two, was really slow. It dragged on pretty badly, and was really confusing on top of that. Lots of new people that are hard to keep track of. Events happened and you aren't sure why they happened or what significance they hold.

I've not read any of these books, I still enjoyed this film. What can I say it was more or less what I expected, it was decently acted especially by Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley), script seemed slow at times but I'd assume that's how the book was written. There's some extra "cheese" sprinkled on this one but it really didn't bother me. I thought the production was really good special effects/CGI looked really good. Overall I enjoyed myself and am awaiting the next part.

My son and I are big fans of the Harry Potter Series, and we were not disappointed. The action started off right away. We will not read the books until the movies are completely done, so we were surprised by every death and every reaction of the characters. I LOVE IT and we will be right there for the midnight premiere of the next movie just to see what happens.

I have seen all of the movies prior to this one and I've read all of the books. I found this movie to be a very good adaptation. I think it is one of my favorite ones in the series! I particularly like how they have continued to pay close attention to casting. Tonks is exactly like I thought she would be as was Luna's father. The visuals were as great as ever too. I have already recommended it to all my friends and family. Go See it!!!

I was hesitant about this Deathly Hallows after reading the local review. I knew it would be dark and move slowly as I found the first part of the book somewhat irritating in the way it took Our Trio sooooo long to actually DO something. But after seeing the movie I am so relieved--it's great. Yes, it's dark. Yes, it's slow. But it makes sense and is pretty much true to the book. As my husband (who has not read the books, but who has seen the movies) said, you need it to set up Part 2. He thought it was really good and he's the kind who generally dislikes movies--too predictable, too trite, not entertaining, etc.
Go see it--whether you're a die-hard Harry fan or a casual one. It's worth it in itself, and will make Part 2 even more worth waiting for.

what a movie from beginning to end !! I could hardly stay in my seat although I have read the books atleast twice. I am still amazed at how ingenius the whole movie is. If you have only one movie to see...see this one. You won't be disappointed. It will leave you wanting to see the next even more. I had to come home and re read the last book again after I saw the movie.

This movie was awesome. It exceeded any expectations I had about the movie, especially with it being split into two parts. I've been a fan forever and read the books multiple times. This has been the most true movie-to-book adaptation I've seen. It was shocking, dark, emotional, and exciting. It was everything I wanted in the movie and more. I would recommend this to anyone, regardless of if you've kept up with the series or not. It really is a stand-alone film.

Potter fans will rejoice in finding this movie is pretty dead-on with the book. The beginning was a little off, but as soon as the movie got going, the scenes coincided with the book quite well...and it's because of this I wouldn't take my younger kids to see it. The dark undertones, the deaths and the violence all ring true to the book as well, so parents be warned. The only thing I was left wanting more from were the scenes between the 3 and Scrimgour and the confrontation between Harry, Hermione and Umbridge. Overall this gets 5 stars in my book because this is finally the movie Potter fans have been waiting for. I very much look forward to the 2nd installment of The Deathly Hallows.

Of course you have to see the new Harry Potter movie...it's the new Harry Potter movie. Apart from that, though, the movie in itself was disappointing. It really made you feel like you were in the theater for 2.5hrs. After the movie was over, I didn't quite know what I sat through.
I've heard that some believe this movie can stand on its own, if you've never seen the other HP films. I disagree wholeheartedly. The film incorporates many aspects and minor characters from previous films. If I had never seen a HP movie, I would have been completely lost.
The point of this movie was to build up the final movie. NOTHING WAS REALLY ACCOMPLISHED IN THIS MOVIE except to whet your appetite for the finale in July. The producer could have easily taken the high points from this film and incorporated them into the final film and still come out under 3hrs. Of course, that wouldn't make as much money as producing 2 HP movies, with the latter being the finale. I get it.
Bottom line: don't expect anything super-special, and don't think the plot will work itself out - it doesn't. If you're going to see the final film, you may need to see this one, so you're not completely lost come July, but as a whole, I think this was the weakest HP film to date. You'll be entertained, but left wanting closure and resolution...which was the point. BTW - many of the scenes in the trailer...not in the part 1 movie.
