Of course being a huge Harry Potter fan I was looking at this movie to see how well it related to the book. Of course it could not be the exact same but it did a very good job of incorporating the key points. It would be a little confusing if you haven't read the books or seen the previous movies intently by introducing characters in the beginning. But hey this is a series you should catch up before you go! Loved it and definitely am anticipating the final one in July

I loved it. However if you did not read the book you might be confused. Not much is explained in this half of the movie (or book). But I certainly am counting down to the final chapter!!

This is a great movie, but if you have read the books it leaves you very anxious for part 2. My 11 year old says it is a bit scary and edge of your seat exciting. We all really enjoyed it. We will go see it again maybe in Imax just for fun.

Absolutely fabulous! Haven't read book 7, saving it, so the movie was extra special. Can't wait for July and the final chapter. Hate to see it end but so far it has been a wonderful ride. Daniel, Rupert and Emma were superb!

The movie was great and followed the last book to a tee. I would say that if you don't know the story and have not seen the other movies, then you need to do some homework to understand the who, what, where, when and why. Overall we saw the movie in IMAX and totally loved it.

Great movie. Good, solid adaptation of the book. Some scenes and aspects don't make it into the movie but that's to be expected. Overall, the script and direction keep the story line solid and on track. The acting is superlative; every actor does a great job of conveying the danger, stress and suspense of the story. It's so well done that you don't realize how long the movie is. I thought 2 1/2 hours was going to be excruciating but it flew by. Would absolutely recommend it, but maybe not for children under 12--it can get a little violent and scary in parts.

This is a very enjoyable motion picture experience, and in no way does it hurt the Harry Potter chronicles. The two and a half hours went by quickly and, although there were fewer action scenes than in previous Potter movies, the movie stayed true to the first half of "The Deathly Hollows." When there was an action sequence it was terrific. As in all of the Potter movies, the special effects were outstanding; and best of all, perhaps, was the ending, which set the stage brilliantly for Part II. Finally, the VIP room at the Phoenix theater in The Legends was spacious and comfortable, with excellent service. Overall, this was as outstanding evening.

Thrilling and intense. Closest to book as any of the movies, The Seven Potters scene was hilarious. Seemed to be more romance than the book -- gushy for an 11 year old (her words). Exciting movie!

As a parent of two daughters ages 16 and 11, the older of whom has grown up with this series, but both having rabidly devoured the books and movies and visited the "Wizarding World" theme park in Orlando, I am happy to confess that there is no such thing as too much Harry Potter in our household! This movie skillfully reflects the maturation of the characters on the cusp of adulthood and the challenges they must now face without the help of their usual benevolent adult guides. Fortunately for viewers and fans, the series has kept true to the spirit of Rowling's work and the actors and actresses portraying the leads and featured roles remain unchanged, lending an authenticity & seamless continuity to each movie's release--well worth catching!

Great movie which stayed as true to the book as possible without including every detail which would have made it too long. For those who complain that it was hard to follow for people who didn't read the book, I must say, Order of The Phoenix and Half Blood Prince were a bit of a let down to true Potter fans because they tried to make it understandable as a stand alone movie. Honestly, by the end of 7 wonderful books and 7 movies if you haven't read them all or thoroughly watched the previous movies to get a true understanding of what Harry and his friends are up against....maybe you shouldn't go see the movie. For the rest of us true fans it was FABULOUS!!! Can't wait for the final installment!!!

I felt that as a whole the movie depicted the book quite well. It was a much darker movie than the previous in the series, definitely not for the little kiddies. It was a little slow in parts, but entertaining for the most part.

I have been a huge Harry Potter fan for a long time. After the last movie I started noticing my excitement lessen. I wondered why. This movie I feel had lost its beauty in many ways. It was something I could have watched at home on TV. It really was mostly depressing and the colors where as they usually are in dark depressing movies, dull, blueish and Grey. I missed the huge views of spectacular places made up from only a child's mind. I missed the dragons, the colors and the jokes that usually are there. As far as the story line they did pretty well, although having read the book several times, some really important parts where changed and I have absolutely no clue why, cuz there was really no reason. Ultimately its a good movie to fit the rest, and I am expecting a big bang at the last movie. Oh, btw, often times I felt the music was really poor made to fit the energy of the movie, and the acting was at times very boring.worst acting was from woldemort I think. I dont mean to be a drag but I think they could have done better.

As someone who enjoyed the books, I felt like they sacrificed too many of the important minor characters in order to dwell on harry and hermione's isolation, but the thing I was most disappointed in not seeing was the chaos at the school while they are gone.
Without that, I have no idea how Part 2 is going to make sense.

Yes, I know, of course I came into it with the understanding that this was Part 1 of 2. But that does not alter the fact that it still is only half of a movie. But it's half of a REALLY GREAT movie - so I would have to say it's VERY VERY GOOD. No doubt you've heard all the stuff... it's darker... the kids are all grown up... not in Hogwarts... all that stuff. So I will focus on the one thing that really blew me away with this film - and that is the performances of the 3 leads. They have all grown amazingly as actors - and have really grown into these parts (literally). I saw Radcliffe in a play on Broadway so I knew he has developed into a very good actor. But it was Watson who took my breath away more than anyone. (minor spoiler alert) The scene in the very beginning - where she quite literally wipes herself out of her parent's lives - was much more touching than I ever would have thought and it's mostly her subtle - and wordless - performance than gives the scene it's power. Bravisimo all around.

this movie was superb! I read the book and knew from the beginning they would have to split this into 2 movies. On one hand I was glad they did or they would have to take out alot of stuff. But on the other hand when it got to the end,I wanted to keep watching, lol! But have to wait til the summer now, lol. This movie truly truly satisfied. It truly shows how far the characters have come and grown! The action keeps you on the edge of your seat! Will definitely be going to see this again!

Fantastic movie, they did a great job "Except" for 2 bits. First Harry zips up a bare backed Jenny's dress. Second and much more intense Harry and Hermione clear both half naked and kissing, you technically don't see Hermione's breast but its very clear she's not wearing anything on top.
