Accessible to non-readers, but careful viewer/readers can pick-up much of the elements in the first 2/3 of the final installment of the Harry Potter novel. As much as the story revolves around Harry, this is Hermione's movie. Truly enjoyable on so many levels. Visual impact, acting (save the dance scene) and trueness to the novel. Excellent!

The screenwriter and director did a good job of condensing a long, complex novel. Kudos to them for having the wisdom to divide it into two films. There were a few details I would have liked to see included--but on the whole, this is a very satisfying experience. It captures the spirit of the novel. I look forward to Part 2!

Didn't think the partial nudity was necessary with hermoine and harry. Not necissarily the best movie for elementary school kids who would go and see it.

These movies keep getting better and better! With that said, this one really steps it up! Very close to the book, lots of detail - the actors are coming into their own and present the emotional temperature well! CAN'T WAIT TO SEE PART II!!!

After hearing reviews of HP7 and being a fan of the books and previous films, I felt sure I'd like Part One of the series conclusion. I just didn't expect to respect it! Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint are now three adults actors very capable of carrying a film to an emotional climax. Plenty of humor, effects and wonder for all to enjoy, but the excellence in this movie lies with its lead actors and their director. You may get a bit lost if you haven't followed the series, but you'll enjoy the ride.

My daughter and I have seen all the Potter films as they come out in theaters. Love them all including Hallows Pt. 1. Don't expect Hallows to do anything but make you even more anxious for Pt. 2-therfore this film does its job.

DId not read the book so cannot compare. The movie has lots of action and the story a few twists. It ends as a cliff hanger so must see the second release of the last book. The actors have grown up and are no longer children but the story is still a little juvenile. It is really long, there is blood in some scenes and a death so it may not be suitable for very young children.

I am a huge HP fan and I've been quite disappointed with the last few films (#6 especially) due to the changes that were made to the story, mostly, I suspect, due to time constraints. I was thrilled when I heard they were splitting #7 into two movies and I wasn't disappointed. Yes, its a longer film (about 2.5 hours) but I didn't feel like the film dragged at all - at no point was there a lull that made me wonder where they were going to end it. This is one I will see again in theatres and the only disappointment I have is that I have to wait until July to see the next installment!

Being big Harry Potter fans, they did a good job making this section of the book into a movie. There are a few things missing but it'll be interesting to see how it all ties together in the 2nd part.

The thing I liked about this movie the most was their willingness to stick as close to the book as possible. Not only that, the story wasn't lacking anything with the parts they cut out. I was crazy enough to go see it at midnight on a work night but it was so worth it. Awesomeness is the best word I could come up with to describe it. Totally the best movie out of all of them!! I can't wait for July to see the next one.

HP7 Pt 1 is a very emotional and sometimes disturbing film which stayed very true to the book. Sure, the pace was slower than any of the other movies but that is how it was written. If you loved the book, you'll enjoy this film. If you didn't read it, you may be bored or confused at times. I wouldn't suggest bringing younger children because there are some pretty gruesome injuries and a couple of deaths to beloved characters that were quite sad. I wish I didn't have to wait until July to see that fabulous ending on the big screen but I'm glad they split it into two movies.

This is a fantastic movie...one of the best in the series so far. I am so thankful that they didn't skip all the dark parts to the story and kept loyalty to the plot JK Rowling wrote. I would say that the movie is a little much for younger children since there is quite a bit of death and sexual undertones, but as an adult I thought the movie was great! It set up the stage for the final movie. Bravo to the director and the actors!

If you've read the books, you'll appreciate the fact that they're taking the time to split this book into two movies. My biggest complaint about earlier movies was the limited amount of time in just one 2 1/2 hour movie wasn't enough to accurately depict what happened in the book. I'm really looking forward to the next movie.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was not only full of fun, but it had loads of envy, jealously, secret lust, and emotions that was due not to only dark times approaching, but teens who are becoming adults and the feelings that they have for one another. This book focused on the friendship of the trio and why their friendship is so important. If you read any of the HP series then you would understand that this version of HP7 is excellent, very true to the book. Its full of action. I loved it so much I saw it again with my children who are not big Harry Potter fans and even they enjoyed this movie. I can not wait until the final installment. It worth the money. Good entertainment.

Another outstanding movie in the Harry Potter series and a must see for those who have enjoyed the books and movies to date. Not really a complaint, but it was obvious even to my 10 and 12 year old girls that they had put more from the book into this movie than previously (strongly correlated to the desire to create two movies for the final book). Overall, this does not detract from the movie, although there are some fairly dry spells in the action as this movie takes a bit more time to explore the interactions between Harry and his best friends. This movie also loses some of the "innocence" of previous movies; true to the book, the violence and consequences of battling He who must not be named are brought home with deaths and injury. So, if you haven't read the book and expect more scares, they are there all right, but with a bit more of an edge than in previous adaptations to the big screen. As stated, however, another brilliant job and well worth the time and money for Harry Potter fans (and their Dads!).

We were at opening night and we will definitely be seeing it a few more times before they take it away. This movie is the one movie that most resemlbes the book. The action was great, if not downright scary at times. The whole theatre felt every emotion, and we cheered and gasped, and a few of us, me included, even shed a tear or two. Hurry up July !!!

It was ok, just as the first half of the book was ok. Yes, it is tedious with them camping and not much happening. Apparation special effects were cool.
Seriously, save your 10 bucks and rent it the day before the second half comes to theatres to watch them back to back.

First: If you are not a Potter fan, Do Not Go. It's not an adventure movie, and you will have had to read or see the first 6 books or movies to understand whats going on.
This movie was awesome. The directing and cinematography was great. The kids are finally getting acting down and it had the one thing all the other movies missed. Character Development. This is not the action move its advertised as, but it you like war/romance flicks, this will be your speed. There are some quite scary parts as well. Along with a bit of wand brandishing and more blood than I expected.
I am a little surprised it wasn't rated "R" honestly. "The Tale of The Three Brothers" was my favorite part. But them Ministry scene and the kiss seem a bit forced. Overall, its a much more grown up film, but I would recommend it to all of my Potter loving friends (but they are already going!)

Overall I was pleased with the movie but felt there really wasn't an "arch" where anything really exciting happened. There were some humerus parts which helped.
Hopefully the second one will help compliment this one and together, end this epic series in style.
