Quite skeptical about the news that HP7
would be run in two parts but I'm a beliver
now! Was thoroughly captivated during
the 2 1/2 hrs particularly by Rupert Grints
excellent performance. The desperate
circumstances experienced by the characters
were well conveyed and acted. I was touched
to a degree that was somewhat surprising
by the scene near the closing on the beach.
I'll just have to re-read DH's to pass the time until the July release.

I have read the entire collection with my children and find that this film, while laying the groundwork to the final chapters, was very well done. I am truly looking forward to the final movie and will be saddened to see this series end.

It was a good movie, but I was disappointed in some of the changes and things that were left out from the book version. Humor was good and choice of casting of Bill Nighy as Scrimjiour was an excellent choice.

I thought it was a really great movie. I do think they have just made it one movie though. If people enjoyed the movies and books enough then they would have sat through a 6 hour movie. it also may have helped the confusion people are talking about, even though I didn't really notice it.

I enjoyed this movie a great deal. My 8 year old has read the whole series a couple of times. I was concerned about some aspects of the ratings and do recommend that you use parental discretion in taking a child under 13-14 to it. I don't think it is common for a teenage girl to ask her boyfriend to help her zip up her dress, but it was well played. There's a kissing scene between two main characters which is a little fleshy; but then again, it was played well and made a point. My daughter was not bothered by it even though I know she's never seen so much sensuality in context before.
The camera work and special effects were fantastic, adding to the chaos, magnitude and mood of key scenes in the movie. The special effects were not extremely over the top (for a movie about magic) and blend seamlessly in the story. Art direction, colors, mood, wardrobe, scenery; all superb and in line with the saga. Although HP movies play quite loudly in the big screen (for me, I always bring earplugs to the movies) , the sound was never overpowering. I think because the effects were so well paced. The movie was suspenseful and action packed. It does move slowly at times but I respect the director's decisions on that aspect as this really drives the point home about the characters' dilemma. The humorous parts are light, entertaining and hilarious; although almost non-existent as the story moves along. Seems natural.
The truth is that if you did not like the HP movies from the start or have not read the books, you will probably not appreciate this movie for what it is. It is not a pretentious "wann-a-be" movie with magical effects (such as some other recent ones out there). We not only see the characters maturing in front of us but also the way the story is told. This movie (in my opinion) has a solid story line, complex characters beautifully portrayed and makes great use of all tools available for great story telling.
I will be watching it a second time, (with earplugs and all) in order to better savor all of it again. I would give it a five start rating if they had made it more accessible to the hardcore fan base I know: the under 13 crowd.
But then again, that would have been a whole other movie and I might not have enjoyed it as much.

It was an incredible experience, you really get pulled into the action. I can't wait until July. I'm gonna see it again in 3D. I fell in love with Harry, Ron and Hermione all over again.

Although missing many of the charming plot lines that built the book, the movie version of The Deathly Hallows still satisfies the viewer. Without being too dense for the viewer unfamiliar with Rowlings' world, the movie version still captures the despair and intensity of the drive to find the horcruxes and the deathly hallows.

First the only flaw is that is you never saw previous movies or never read the book you may be confused. This director did a wonderful job at trying to include as much from the book as he could. No movie is ever going to have everything in it as the book did but, this director tried to hit at all the main points. I loved this movie and can't wait to see part 2!

They did a pretty good job of not leaving too much out of the 7th book. Very graphic, intense and thrilling. I would not recommend this movie to any child under the age of 9. Very dark and scary to a child of that age. Little girl (about 7) next to me kept jumping and covering her eyes and ears, and had her knees up to her chest. This is NOT for little kids! I wish parents would be more responsible. Other than that issue, the movie was excellent and I am happy with the outcome, having read the series, and i'm looking forward to part 2!!

This movie is the best because it follows the main points from the book closely and accurately. When watching the movie, it really captures what you imagined scenes would look like in the book. The movie also didn't have made up scenes like in the previous film that had nothing to do with the book. The Half Blood Prince should have been more like this style of screenwriting. FOLLOW THE BOOK!

The story is brought to life by the actors that make it so real. Even though it is a dark movie, the characters and the occasional funny line, quickly brightens the mood. The ending is cut short by a very emotional and dark scene leaving the audience very excited for the next part. Harry Potter never disappoints!!

The story line is IMO the best of all HP movies so far adapted from the book-- and part of it has to do with the book separated into 2 movies. In this 1st half of the Deathly Hallows, the director is able to fine tune each important event that unfolds in the last book, and seems that every detail was thought of in each scene, i.e., you really get the sense of isolation and time passing slowly that Harry and Hermione experience when they are out in the wilderness. The fighting scene in the forest toward the end is frantic, chaotic, almost at a dizzying fury, which is probably fought at wizarding speed, meant to confuse the average muggle. And the new characters introduced couldn't have been cast more perfectly-- case in point, Bill Weasley. Seeing this character for the first time and I've already welcomed him as a long-standing member of the Weasley family, like I've seen him in every HP movie prior to this. I could write about this movie probably for the next hour, but if you are a true HP fan and have read all the books multiple times, you will be thoroughly satisfied and entertained. I have no doubt that the 2nd half released in July 2011 will be just as spectacular if it's the same director.

This was probably the best Harry Potter yet. Although it was not the whole movie, I thought that they could have had the whole movie at one time with an intermission where the first movie did end. I thought that the ending was awkward, yet it did make me really anxious to see part two when it comes out in July 2011. If you do see it on an UltraScreen, make sure that you sit in the middle in the reserved section, or high up in the middle in a regular screening because there is a lot of action that goes from one side of the screen to another. Going back to what I said before, this is the greatest Harry Potter yet, except for that the sixth movie is almost as good. I have read the book, and I think that the movie is relatively close to what the movie portrays. There are some things that they could have left out that aren't really important to the advancement of the plot (i.e. when George dies). Voldemort looks too old to only be happening a month or two after when the sixth movie ended. If they wanted it to seem more realistic, they would have made him look younger. All in all, I LOVE THIS MOVIE AND CAN'T WAIT TO SEE PART TWO!!!!!!!!!!!!

As a fan of the Harry Potter books I have loved all the movies and I think they've just gotten better as the story has progressed. I think the Deathly Hallows, Part 1 has been the best so far, it just does such an amazing job of capturing almost everything that happened in the book. The acting is really great and I will be so sad to see this series end. Awesome movie.

For anyone who's read the books, you will enjoy this movie. I like the 2nd half of the book better because its got a lot more action. The first half, while important for the story, is a little boring and drawn out. For anyone who hasn't read the books, you probably won't like this movie (the friends that came with me that hadn't read it didn't like it).
I give it 4 stars because it was a good movie, but I know the 2nd part will be so much better ;)

There is no disappointment with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1. This is definitely the best movie of the series to date. There were lots of details from the book that were portrayed on the big screen clear and precisely. The movie had the right pace and action and the dialogue was perfect. There is a scary scene or two with the snake but for the most part this movie is great for all ages. I am eager to see the Part 2.

This is a build up of what's to come - what a great story. The only disappointment for me is that I don't see enough of all the characters - this movie is seriously focused on the three main characters. I would recommend seeing on the big screen - lots of action - the 2.5 hours flew by - you will totally enjoy!

I am an avid reader of the books and while Part 1 stayed closest to the book, I thought that if you hadn't read the book you must be really confused. I thought they skipped through things and didn't explain them well, left out things that could easily have been left in (even keeping with the time constraints), and changed things that didn't make sense. I was VERY excited to see this and was disappointed at the end.

If you haven't read the book go see the movie first. If you have read the book as many as 10 times, such as myself, they changed a lot! Of course, we expected them to leave a lot out, look how long the book is. I felt there were things they needed to explain better. Like the Deathly Hallows. All they did was tell the fairy tale and explain the symbol. They didn't use the poly juice potion 2 times when they did in the book. It made more sense to use it since everyone was looking for Harry. Once at the wedding and once at Godrics Hallow. They should have left out the half naked scene with Harry & Hermione, they went too far. And what happened to the funeral for Dumbldore? I am very upset they left that out. I'm sure others are as well. Well that's my opinion. Thanks for reading.

Absolutely loved this movie. I was worried about where they would split the book in order to make two movies...they managed to split it at a wonderful spot & my worries were unfounded.
It is a much darker movie than the others (so are the books at this point); however, there were some great scenes of comedy (supplied mostly by Ron, of course).
If you like the books, like the movies, or like both you should definitely go to see this one.
