I am an avid reader of the books and while Part 1 stayed closest to the book, I thought that if you hadn't read the book you must be really confused. I thought they skipped through things and didn't explain them well, left out things that could easily have been left in (even keeping with the time constraints), and changed things that didn't make sense. I was VERY excited to see this and was disappointed at the end.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
