This was such a fantastic movie! I was sitting on the edge of my sit the entire 2 1/2 hours!!! It filled every emotion from happy and sad, and made me jump and laugh!! I can't wait to see part 2. What a terrific job by the entire cast, especially loved Ron in this movie. Rupert should win an award for his part! Superb job!!

Not having read all the books, but having re-watched the entire movie collection, some twice in this last week... I learned a lot. It was a great movie, very grey, dark, looming. Fast paced. Everyone should see it that knows the story line up till. I think I need to go read all of the Harry Potter books before spring. Questioned the point at which they chose to stop/end Part 1, or I just want more, I want to know... off to read!

The movie, just like the book kept you spell bound. Having read the book 3 times I could practicullay visiualize what was going to happen next. My son and I went and we both were just aweed. We also found that the parts of the book that would have made the movie even longer were really not missed as they story line kept you up to speed with everything. Will be going again! Wow!

This installment of the movie definitely portrays the most grown up version the characters in any of the movies in the Harry Potter Saga. Out of all the films, this one shows the most effort in the area of character and story development. It however solely focuses on the section of the novel where the story is still developing and the meat of the conflict is barely seen. They definitely leave you desiring more direct confrontation. If you're not a Harry Potter reader or follower, expect to be disappointed by the abrupt ending of this first installment of the last book. Also parents with children should probably read the reviews before exposing their children to the strong images portrayed in this movie.

I saw the midnight show on IMAX (so worth it if you're a true-blue HP fan; the colors were bright and crisp) I'm a huge HP fan and am always a little nervous that the directors will butcher the books. This is the first HP movie since COS where I felt that they followed the book closely. (sooo happy they decided to do a Pt 1 & 2 = 5 hrs!!).
Definitely scary...not for the younger viewer (under 10 or 11). That Voldemort is EVIL!! Nagini! And Bellatrix is one psycho witch! Loved Lucius in this one! Thought Emma/Dan/Rupert did a phenomenal acting job. A little bummed that they didn't show the "Luna mural" and yes, if you haven't read the books you'll be like "Why the heck is Harry carrying around a shard of glass?!" This was dropped from a previous book (3rd? 5th?) and of course is now an important plot point in the final book!
There was so much speculation about where the break between Movie 1 & 2 would be. I think they ended 1 perfectly! Voldie 1~Dumbledore 0.
Can't WAIT till July to see the final Harry Potter film!

This is the best of the series as far as true faithfulness to the books. They took a convoluted book and made it linear on film. As a consequence, however, we spend a lot of time in the woods. (SPOILER ALERT) We don't get to see Luna's room, to which the girls in our group were looking forward.
Overall, this is a great intermediary film; nothing is resolved. Can't wait for the rest of the chapter!

Warning: to anybody wanting to see this movie, I highly suggest that you go out and read the book. Without it, you will mostly be lost to what's going on here. Just watching the movies isn't enough, they breeze over way to many points for a full understanding of all this. I only read the book when it came out and I was still lost at points.
But yes, the movie is pretty average on the whole. It's all a set-up, yes, but it's like they didn't want to make this its own movie. It's part one, and that's exactly what it feels like. There's no real beginning, middle, end, just a series of events. The climax, if you want to call it that, will pass you by and you'll be sitting in your seats wondering why it went to credits. Some work should really have been done here to make a complete story.
One of the major problems this movie has is that is lacks any connective tissue. They try to stick to the events of the book to closely, and since they don't have a thousand pages to go about this, I felt like I was watching a re-cap of things.
Also, there's a lot of really odd stuff that just comes out of nowhere. Things that make you wonder if perhaps sticking to the source material isn't such a bad thing. There's this rather odd dancing scene that goes on for five minutes and accomplishes nothing, and then there's that "brief sexuality" in the rating. It's all just very weird. Can they not do things well if they're not taken directly from the book? I wonder.
But besides all that, this isn't a bad movie. The action is intense and it works the tension well, all the acting is solid, the humor is still wonderful and organic, and the cinematography is beautiful.
I'm not a rabid fan, and maybe that's my own flaw. But I feel like movies should be able to stand on their own, not just cater to a certain audience. That's my opinion though.
If you loved the books, hell, you probably already went to midnight premier. If you loved the movies... read the books.

I thought the first part of the two part movie series for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was a wonderful beginning to the final summation of the Harry Potter Series. I can't wait for it to come out on DVD so that I can watch it again before the second half comes out next year. The movie stayed very close to the book and it was absolutely riveting from beginning to end.

This film was, perhaps, the best in the series...however, there were moments where it felt as though it was about to go to commercial...dramatic pauses, fade to black, etc. In a film where so much was cut out from the book, those moments would have been better spent on relevant details rather than cinematic effect. Other than that, the movie was fun and fierce....can't wait for the second installment.

Though it does make some reductions/alterations to the story as compared to the book, the spirit and impetus of the source material has stayed intact, and a few small additions (Hedwig's moment) and the dancing scene between Harry and Hermione actually helped tell the story and connect with the characters, unlike many of the departures from the books in earlier movies which seemed largely pointless. The Tale of the Three Brothers was, as others have mentioned, handled in a very imaginative way and the performances of all the players (not just the kids) were all the strongest they have been so far. "Prisoner of Azkaban" was the last time that I thought a HP movie really captured the feeling of the book it was based on, but now that film has been at least equaled and probably surpassed.
Yes, having read the book is probably beneficial to the viewer (if not absolutely necessary) but honestly...these are the most widely read works of popular fiction in human history, and a very easy read at that, so I don't have much patience with those who expressly refuse to read them and then complain that they can't follow the movies.

Lowest budget yet, but some nice outdoor sceens. There were some glaring omissions that could have easily been in, Like the opening landing. Like Bills house and garden. (background) , or Mad-Eyes' ghost @ Siriuses house instead of Dombledores. The rush to burey Dobby. Daniel Radcliff still needs an emotion coach. Every thing else was well done. Still worth the time and ticket.

For those who read the books and know the storyline, this was an OK movie. I found it plodding & sterile as the main characters were stilted and appeared uncomfortable in their own skins. Granted it is a somewhat darker film and does adhere to the book. I know what happens next in Part 2 so probably won't spend the money to find out how it's going to play out on the screen. Took a friend who had not read the last book, they didn't really like it much. Thought it could have been done in one movie. Very disappointed.

I am not as big a fan of Harry Potter as my son and husband, but I have to say this was an excellent movie. I worried that the time would drag. But I couldn't believe how fast the time flew by. Very exciting, can't wait for part II

This chapter was very vivid and very intense and was obviously meant to be 3-D.
So why wasn't it? I'm not sure.
The story is a little depressing at this juncture and those who haven't read the books may not "get it." But the characters have definitely grown up and the acting has improved.
Very touching moment with H&H.
Overall, it's good fun - but needs to be seen in the theatre.

Wow! Impressed as aways... my family (extended as well) attended this movie... we have enjoyed the books and have seen each movie as they have come out.... I'm completely torn however as I can't wait for the next movie but wish the story didn't end there. I'm certain I'm not alone in this feeling.

I've read ALL of the Harry Potter books and have loved them. The movie was good, but parts were left out to keep things moving, and things that were ignored in other movies were thrown in without adequate explanation. The humor and action were enjoyable.Unfortunately in the movie it seems that Harry is along for the ride. In the book it was his quest for understanding, his choices between Horcruxes and Deathly Hallows. I will see the final movie because I have enjoy the cast members.
