I think I watched the first two movies. Never read any of the books. Came to this one because my stepdaughter and her friend HAD to see it.
I loved it! I loved it enough that I'm thinking I need to go back and watch all of the previous movies.
Admittedly, I had to ask a few questions to catch up with what I missed over the years, but it was well worth it.

Great suspense, this movie always kept me on my toes. I know this is a total set up for the last movie, the producers could have at least tried to end it a little bit, there is too much open endedness

This movie was the most faithful to the book. However, there were parts that I didn't think would make as much sense or have much meaning for those who haven't read the books (of course, everyone should read them!). There were many scenes that I wanted to see that they left out, but it's understandable that they couldn't everything in even with 2 parts. Overall, the acting was much better in this one, too.

This film is by far the best of the series and the closest adaptation of the book. Great action sequences, great acting. Even the 2.5hr run time of the movie was not an issue for my 8yr old. We did not find ourselves wondering when it would be over. Quite the opposite for myself & many others in the theater. The suspense kept us wanting more.
I would recommend this movie to anyone who loved the books or previous movies for sure!
Can't wait for the final chapter.

As one the most highly anticipated films of the year and a huge fan, I couldn't wait for it. The movie I went to was sold out- with ages ranging from 1 to senior citizens.
I found the movie great as a fan. I could understand it and followed along. I was frustrated at points where it completely left out parts of the book or made up parts. There were times when it fit and times when it did not (ie, Hermione and Harry dancing).
However, I think it was confusing for those who did not read the books. I felt that I had to explain to my friend who has not read the books what was going on when they left out parts. I think that if a whole group who has never read the books went without a "guide' they would be bit lost. However, I will credit the writers for dropping in lines that reminded their viewers about what had happened.
Overall, a pretty great movie for all to enjoy.

This is was a great start to the two part movie. I could not have asked for anything more. I didn't think it would last as long as it did but I'm glad that it did. It hit really good parts of the book and I cannot wait for part 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! >.< People who are fans need to go see this movie. It will blow their minds!

This movie was the best Harry Potter Movie yet!!! I am a book reader and I am proud to say they stayed very true to the books and captured all the important parts. Even if you didn't read the books, it makes perfect sense. Ends on a MAJOR cliffhanger. It leaves you wanting MORE!!! I would definatly recomend this movie to anyone!!! (book readers or movie watchers.)
The movie is dark / sad, and at parts scary, so don't bring small kids. (There were a few younger viewer who got frightened.)

My kids and I went to one of the midnight showings, and couldn't have been more thrilled. Out of all the movies, they saved the best for last. It was the perfect blend of movie adaptation and faithfulness to the books.

Depending on how the second part develops the story, it could be a 5-star. As of now it is good, and is worthwhile to go see, especially if you are a HP fan. if you think its predictable, youre right because its based on a book. But it does a good job of making the scenes good, ever through slow parts. 3-5 stars depending on how the second part is.

Unlike some of the previous HP releases, The Deathly Hallows does a great job of staying true to the books pace and storyline. It is well acted and well directed. Highly recommend! Can't wait for July!

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 was far and away the best adaptation of a Harry Potter book to date. As a fan of the books, I have been dissappointed in the last few efforts- I enjoyed the movies, but couldn't compare them to the books without getting irritated. This film, however, is not only a great telling of the book, but stands as an all around good movie.
I wouldn't take a young child to see it because of some scarier elements, but it is a great film for older kids and adults alike.

Often movies take the short cut for the sake of editing, time, or costs in the approach to movie adaptation from a book. The Harry Potter series has used its creative license liberally in this regards. However, with this first installment of the Deathly Hallows we see an very good attempt to stay true to the book. Certainly there were parts missing or changed, but the tenor of the film matched the book. The setup in this final chapter of the Harry Potter saga is appropriate as a boy coming to terms with pending manhood. There are certainly dark moments as the boy realizes he has taken on a mans responsibility and must shoulder this on his own. The director has done a great job of setting a flow which is easily followed by the audience without making a movie which lags. I eagerly anticipate the conclusion to this series.

Given the script, I think that the cast/director did an incredible job. Obviously we all have favorite moments that we wish were written into the movie, but the artistic direction was stunning.
