This is light and fluff but fun and puts lots of smiles on your face. my sister and I really enjoyed it. We're both over 60. We were sitting next to some young teens and mid teens and they were so into it that we're sure it was their 2nd or 3rd viewing. Intoxicating beautiful locale, fun and enthusiastic cast, infectious ABBA songs, charming Jule Walters, handsome Pierce Brosnan, and the center of it all, singing and dancing Meryl Streep (who knew!). It's never easy to weave together existing songs with their , existing, lyrics, into a musical that makes complete sense, but Mamma Mia comes very close. Pierce gets extra credit for his singing. With very limited singing skills, he is braver than in any of his James Bond stunts. Julie and Meryl have great chemistry, even a strong resemblance. Just like an ABBA song, it's not deep, but is just as much fun; in this case more. Lots of fun and no one left during the funny mini-concert during the final credits.

As long as you're not expecting this to be oscar-caliber, you won't be disappointed. Meryl Streep can do no wrong, and the rest of the cast almost lives up to her exuberance. It isn't "Chicago," but it's certainly "Hairspray." I don't care what the critics say.

What a Blast. My wife made me go to this and I'm glad I did. This is the type of light hearted entertainment that is fun for everyone. It was great to see the smiles on everyone's face as they left after the show. Don't leave until Waterloo! The laughs keep comming through the credits. I laughed, I cried, and I laughed again. I don't recall the last time that I had such a good time at the Movies. Streep is amazing...and she can really sing. ABBA's music is as great as ever; Christine Baranski and Meryl Streep do justice to the songs; and the locales are breathtaking. On the other hand, Brosnan is horribly mis-cast, the direction is amateurish, and the forced high-energy excitement and frenetic pace (everybody runs! everybody jumps up and down! everybody squeals with delight!) are reminiscent of a high-school production.

Mama Mia is a movie that for me makes one wish they live a bit through the process of a musical. You know those moments where the joy of a moment needs extraordinary expression. Those times when so in sync with your special friends you all could almost burst into song to "say it the way it is." Mama Mia draws those kind of feelings out of one...even for those of us who do not sing in tune. The audience was enthralled throughout the whole movie, responding to the silly moments, tender moments and ut-oh times. Yes, one can say life is not this way, too pollyanna like but consider what the gift of music and spontaneity would be for one's spirit if we were ALL a bit more playful in life. The more realistic hope that I have is that more movies will come forth that have less of a dark side, violent themes and overly sexual but more hopeful and inspirational. We all need those shots in the arm that a movie like Mama Mia brings one.

I enjoyed the movie, however the acting and singing was average to poor. Having Brosnon singing was extremely laughable but, if he had not been James Bond, he would probably be selling insurance. I am a huge ABBA fan and I loved the music and the comedic overtones in the movie. The songs however diddn't flow well with the dialogue and I felt like they were forced together.

It's always difficult to take a familiar piece from one medium to another. Mama Mia is one of those few shows that everyone knows, so the task becomes doubly difficult. There's also the casting question: Actors first or singers first?
No one will launch their singing career with this movie -- especially Pierce Brosnan -- but all the performances were well within the acceptable range. Meryl Streep may be the only actress of our time who could carry the Donna role in this film.
I could do without the slow motion special effects. It seemed like they were added just because they were available.
Having said all that, it was a fun way to spend the afternoon with the woman I love. The encore scene was an absolute hoot and sent the audience off with one last blast of feel good mojo from the ABBA era.

Have never enjoyed a movie from start to finish more than this one. We were both smiling throughout, with the music driving everyone in the audience to virtually dnace in their seats. Sure the singers aren't ABBA, but the sound foks were smart enough to minimize the soloists on most songs. You don't even have to be an ABBA fan to love this movie. But I suspect you will be after seeing this.

Have seen it 3 times on Broadway and I think they did a wonderful job bringing it to the silver screen. You couldn't ask for a better cast. It was also very funny. I forced my husband to go with me to see Mamma Mia. We both enjoyed it. It was fun, light, entertaining and we came out singing and happy. It is a bit silly at times, but that is what this show is about. It seemed a bit out of character for both Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan but we enjoyed both of them a lot. The young "Sofie" Amanda Seyfried, was beautiful and wonderful in this role!

This movie is a feel good allover movie. I have never tapped my feet or sang in a movie show ever before (maybe rocky horror in my youth) but you couldn't help yourself. It was a lose yourself, happy ending , smiling when you leave kind of movie that's desperately needed in these depressing economic times. Meryl Streep was fabulous and Pierce Bronson can really sing (who would have thought it of brooding 007?!?). The actors looks like they enjoyed every second of making the film and the scenery was breathtaking-will buy dvd and go see it again in theatre; even eager to see it on stage now!

It was great to see this movie with my 13 year old daughter. We laughed from beginning to end. Mamma Mia was like a breath of fresh air!. Meryl Streep's performance was as usual "Spectacular", including her singing. The acting, the music the dancing, the costumes, the scenery were all great. You could not help but laugh, relax and enjoy every minute of the movie. I left the movie theater feeling happy and humming the song.....Mamma Mia here I go again!. I plan to see it again, this time with my husband.

The music was wonderful and the scenery was beautiful. What a great story and everything was so entertaining The dancing, the humor, and the photography of Greece was so beautiful. I loved everything about it and will go to see it again!!! I have already recommended it to many of my friends. It is so nice to see a movie that is so well done.

Phenomenal!! I've seen the play and the movie does it proud. Pierce Brosnan's singing needed improvement, but he gave it a game try. Meryl Streep was fantastic, and the actress playing "Sofie" had a beautiful voice, was very pretty, and did the role proud! I'm going to see the movie again tomorrow - it was that good! Definitely a movie not to be missed!!

SO MUCH FUN! This movie was great from start to the fabulous finish. The only negative was Pierce's singing, but because he is Pierce, I will gladly forgive him. I saw the Broadway play and loved it - and love the movie just as much! It just makes you want to get up and dance... and have the time of your life!!
