After some mixed reviews in the print media, I went to see Mama Mia last night and it was one of my most memorable experiences in years. Not only was the movie shot well, but the cast was excellent. Who said these actors (Streep & Brosnan) couldn't sing? They were terrific! The most unbelievable experience however was this....the MOVIE theater audience applauded after every musical number as if they were seeing it on Broadway!!!!! I havent seen that happen in years!!!!! We wanted to turn around and see it again that night. We will see it again and I guarantee that when it comes out on DVD it will probably be my first Blu Ray purchase!!!!!

This movie was horribly miscast. All of the leads are too old. If the daughter was born to a 20 year old and is now 20, well you do the math. there are some fine actors and actresses in their 40s who can sing and dance and would have been more believable.

It was so frantic (over the top) and loud. It didn't translate to the big screen for me because the director seemed to take the theater experience and just paste it on the screen. I did enjoy the scenery however the camera work made me dizzy. The cast did the best they could but sometimes even Meryl Streep looked silly.

When Mama Mia hit the big screen the frivolity ensued. It is SO much like the play it doesn't disappoint. I was fascinated by the beautiful scenic isle in Greece and could only think how much fun the cast must have had.
The film version story was true to form from the play and the actors and actresses brought a lot of fun to the film version. The singing was wonderful, except for Pierce. A fill in there would have given it five stars.
It was uplifitng and Meryl Streep deserves another academy nod at least for her performance, as well as Christine for supporting actress.
So overall, if you like fun, frivolity, the hectic anticipation before a wedding, the music of Abba and the ocean blue, Mama Mia is a must see.

From the very beginning I was hooked. The cast was right on point. Who knew Pierce could sing?!! Meryl Streep keeps getting better and better gracefully aging. My sister and I went together and we laughed, cried and sang along. Great Movie.

I took my three best girls, the woman I love and my two daughters, this movie; for a tough guy reminded me why I won't settle in life. This was a lot of fun and after a tough life, I dig happy endings.

Saw the play, and the movie does it justice. Could be the best movie I've seen in a long, long time. If this movie doesn't get an academy nomination, then I will never watch the awards show again. Except for some adult innuendo's, you can take the whole family to see and enjoy it.

WOW, what a wonderful feel good movie. The critics don't know what they are talking about when they panned it. Yes, it's silly , AND..wonderful, joyous, lighthearted and great fun. Meryl Streep is so open and really lets go, singing and dancing and truely the personification of the Greek Goddess (which one I won't tell!) I loved Pierce Brosnan, he can take his shirt off anytime....! The rest of the cast was terrific and the scenery was to faint for... I want to see this again and again when I need a pick up. Loved it loved it loved it!!!

I love movies that make you smile, laugh and cry unabashedly. I took my four girls (ages 11 - 19yo) and my mom to see this movie on 07/19/08. I'm already a big fan of Meryl Streep, Colin Firth and Pierce Brosnan so I anticipated the acting would be top notch, and it was. Meryl was absolutely delightful as Donna (it just seemed to suit her) and Pierce Brosnan (though he isn't a great singer) was fantastic as Sam. I was lost in the story from the very beginning. The scenery was breathtaking, the music was beautiful and Donna's "friends" in the movie (Julie Walters & Christine Baranski) were absolutely hilarious.
I can't wait for the DVD, we are getting this one in Blu-ray!

This movie is definitely a corny, chick flick if you need to laugh/lift your spirits. I am not a person that likes musicals but there is more dialogue than singing in this movie. The singing parts aren't that long (thank goodness) and they are songs that you are familiar with if you know the Abba songs from the past. The entire audience was singing "Dancing Queen" and clapped at the end of the movie so I would say that not only I and my girlfriends enjoyed it but the rest of the theater enjoyed it as well.

I was a little worried about the screen adaptation of this, I was fortunate enough to see the show on Broadway last summer. I will say this movie exceeded my expectations and more! The acting was marvelous, the scenery was perfect! It was just a feel good movie, making you want to sing and clap! I thought the "amateur" singing voices by some added a little to the realism....we can't all sing, you know, but it doesn't mean we aren't inspired to do so at times! I can't wait to see it again!

So I'm a sucker for the music in Mama Mia. Like one reviewer said, "Hating on ABBA is like kicking a kitten." But to see these guys, some of whom are catching up to me in age, belt out those chestnuts, and do it well, was extrordinary!. This one rivals the stage production, a rare feat indeed. Anyone over the age of 45 will love it, guaranteed, as will most who are younger. Oh, and don't skip out early at the end - wait at least till the final credits are rolling.

Having been a fan of Abba's since Dancing Queen first came out however many years ago, how could I resist Mamma Mia, the movie. Just the play, it's total silliness but what's so bad about a little silliness every now and again? Meryl Streep, as always, shows she can play an role well. Truly, she looked like she was having a marvelous time playing Donna, the mom of soon to be wed daughter Sophie. Pierce Brosnan may not have the singing skills she does, but he made an easy to watch Sam. Goofy songs, goofy dances all made for a lighthearted afternoon.

Loved the play,so wanted to see the movie. Light-hearted, funny, beautiful scenery and of course, great music. Meryl Streep did mature women everywhere proud, she was awesome! An infectious musical that had me dancing in my seat, Mamma Mia suprised the heck out of me -- primarily by its casting. I had never thought of Meryl Streep in terms of a musical comedy actress, but she holds her own, as do the other actresses in the film. The men, on the other hand, seemed a bit out of their element. Nonetheless, this was a great movie -- especially if you are a member of the Boomer generation -- and remember, or cringe at your mispent youth (accompanied by a soundtrack by ABBA).

If you like ABBA, you will love this film! The actors are perfectly cast in all the roles. Reminiscent of the old Busby Berkley musicals. You will laugh and feel like you are at the party!
