This had to be one of the worst movies I have ever seen, Meryl Streep must have been desperate and Pierce Brosnan's singing SOS was painful. The editing and dubbing were awful - the actors mouths and the lyrics did not coordinate. This was a preposterous plot contrirved to make ABBA's songs come together. The transiton from Broadway to the screen amy be difficult but this attempt was a disaster.

I thought it was wonderful! Meryl did a terrific job! She fit the role perfectly. I enjoyed The Dancing Queen scene the most! The scene on the beach with the guys dancing on the dock was really funny as well! The setting was beautiful. We listened to ABBA all the way home!

Absolutely go see it. Loved the casting--Meryl Streep is wonderful as an aging hippie, Pierce Brosnan is delicious and Colin Firth is great fun. I also saw the Broadway production--the music not withstanding, I thought the movie was more interesting because of the fabulous scenery. It made me want to book a trip to the Greek Islands as soon as possible!! Just a really fun show.

This was a fun movie to see. The scenery was great, and the music wonderful. Meryl Streep exceded expectation with her singing and acting. Julie Walters has a great voice. Pierce Brosnan acted well, but should not be singing. Wish they would have used a voice over for him. The rest of the leads were acceptable. Producers of musicals should cast actors that can sing, instead of "name" power.

Tons of Fun!!! I invited my 2 sisters, 2 of our buddies, our sister-in-law and our 12 year-old neice, so we had a range of ages-and we ALL had a ball! The movie started a little slow, but believe me it got better and better and by the end, everybody in the theater (which was packed!) was laughing or singing or both. As we left complete strangers were saying , "Wasn't it great?! Don't you want to see it again?!" I'd definitely recommend this movie-and if you have a bunch of sisters/friends to go with-even better!

First, let me tell you that I really love the entire cast of this movie, which is one of the many reasons I hated this movie. They were mostly either miscast or just bad. The only one's I thought were great were Christine Barabnski, Amanda Syfried and Stellan Skarrsgard.
I love musicals and this is one of the worst. Phyllida Lloyd is a stage director, not a movie director. There was no choreography, which Abba Music screams for and there was no movement. There was no use of the beautiful island (and please save the weather excuse, it's Greece, not Mayasia). Her concept of using scenery was to position an actor in front of the ocean and let them sing. Watch SOund of Music, watch Finian's Rainbow, watch Brigadoon... they should have been moving. Also, the sound stages and green screen, wow! he production quality was like watching a student film.
I feel badly for Pierce Brosnan... he shouldn't have been singing. And I love Meryl Streep, but she's so over the top and I've never seen her over the top.
I would only recommned that you see this movie with a group of friends, and all of you know that it's horrible going in, then you might have fun.

This movie was just ok. As a fan of the musical and the soundtrack, I felt uneasy watching these actors sing these songs. They looked as if it was paining them to be singing. They, especially Pierce Brosnan and Meryl Streep, looked completely out of place belting out showtunes. I thought the character of Sofie was wonderful and I enjoyed Christine Baranski's performance. Her theater background showed. I enjoyed the movie still, because I enjoy the songs. I think this could have been done much better.

This movie was very slow starting, most of the first half being the set up for the finale. Once the set up was in place, the movie really picks up and becomes much more fun. Although the only movie I can think of that has its best scenes after the finale. All of the major players seem to be over acting, with Meryl Streep being the only one to really pull it off.

I took my 14 year old daughter and her friend to see this on opening day. They loved it as much as I did! I wasn't sure they would because of the older cast, but they did. We can't wait to buy it when it comes out on DVD. I want to go back and see it with people my age who grew up with the songs. This is a non-stop fun movie. Everyone laughed outloud!

For anyone who can't see the play at a professional venue like Las Vegas (for $100 a ticket or so), this movie is an excellent substitute! The cast wasn't chosen for their singing ability (the women sing okay, but the men -- well -- they tried :-) ) -- but the story line, music, scenary, and heartfelt acting more than make up for the vocal deficiencies. I know that my wife and I will be buying this on DVD as soon as it comes out, so that we can watch it over, and over, and over again...

I saw the play in London and this movie was just as entertaining as the original play. Interesting note: The female actors in the movie had a much better presence than the male actors. BRAVO to the entire cast and crew.

I was so excited to see the movie, I was afraid the anticipation would be greater than actualy seeing the movie. No way! I went back this afternoon for a 2nd time! The singing was awesome, the dancing was fun, the actors were funny and quite entertaining. Each one was a perfect fit for their character. The first time I went the whole theater sang along to every song. The 2nd time there was no audience particiation. I have to say I enjoyed participating more than simply watching however I enjoyed both shows tremendously.

The movie was okay. Some scenes were extraneous and added nothing to the movie but length. Some of the scenes were much to loud, yellong and screaming were a distraction. Scenes jumped around and distracted from the flow of the move. Meryl Streep has a fabulous voice and can reallly move as can her two midde aged sidekicks. I saw the play and enjoyed the movie. For the movie to have a theme of an unwed mother, I thought it was done in good taste. The songs were used in a very good way.

Mama Mia was the most fun movie I have seen in years and so alive and free...It was just great in every way!!! I would recommend it to everyone...it is a must see...alive, fun, uplifting and Meryl Streep was fabulous and should win an Oscar for her role...for once in years we have a great movie that is not a dark and depressing ugly plot movie....with shock value nudity and vulgarity that adds nothing to the movie at all!! What a great day it is that Rita Wilson gets it... first with My Greek Wedding and now with Mama Mia!!! Thank you for making a movie that was the best movie in a long time...totally uplifting entertainment...can't wait to see it again!!!

The movie scenery was spectacular and the pace of the movie was fast. It was a fun escape for a few hours. Meryl Streep can actually sing. My only criticism would be that Pierce Brosnan cannot sing, but I would still highly recommend it.

Couldn't wait to see the movie after seeing the play twice. Wasn't disappointed at all. WHAT FUN! We had a blast--laughing, crying, singing and dancing. Meryl, Amanda, Pierce, Colin, and ALL the rest were perfect for their parts. Can't wait to see it again! For sure I will buy the CD and the DVD one day, too.
