I rated this movie 3 stars, but that's only because of it's connection to the Indiana Jones franchise. If it had been a stand alone film, I would have only given it 2 stars, and would not recommend it to others. I had three main issues with the movie. First, the plot and backstory of the film is incredibly absurd even by Indiana Jones standards. It didn't seem as if Spielberg was even trying to create a realistic scenario, and instead just wrote down a bunch of random thoughts and decided to combine them. Second, Cate Blanchett, in my opinion, is easily one of the top five actresses in Hollywood today. Her performance in this film, however, was something she will probably look on with regret years from now--her russian accent was absolutely horrendous. Third, Karen Allen in Raiders... was basically the female version of Indy, and I could have easily seen a spin-off of her character. Not so in Kingdom..., where she is relegated to a domestic role that her original self would probably despise. That said, Shia LeBeouf was a pleasant surprise, and Ford didn't seem to miss a beat over twenty years. My hope is that Spielberg realizes how much of a poor taste this film has left in devoted fans of the series, and decides to do a fifth, and final movie.

Probably the 3rd best of the 4-part series. A bit hit and miss in terms of dialogue. My expectations were tempered going in after being disappointed with Temple of Doom and a little more pleased with Last Crusade. The ending was a bit disappointing and seemed like National Treasure 2 more than something really 'fresh'...

I am a big Indiana Jones fan and was disappointed with this episode. Cate Blanchett gave a great performance as well as Shia LeBouf, but Harrison and Allen unfortunately need to portray their respective ages. Or the script should have put more aged aided humor into it. And the plot was a little too much for me. I fell asleep a couple of times.

A contrived, disturbing beginning and a hokey ending make you forget all the good stuff in the middle. Not Shia and Harrison's fault - blame it on the writers. Good action scenes and some interesting points are made, but it's largely wasted. A disappointing continuance to the Indiana Jones saga. It deserved better.

As a long time Indiana Jones fan I was anxious to see the new film. To say I was disappointed is an understatement, but heck, I’m being polite. Historically, the team of Lucas and Spielberg skated the line in their action sequences in terms of believability. In the new film the line is blurred and they are so far over the top a ten year old would find it unbelievable. For example: Jeeps in the jungle moving at high rates of speed actually would be hard to stand on due to bumps and vibrations – not a problem in this film. Obviously, neither is nuclear fall out and the fact that refrigerator doors never remain closed if you drop them from a third floor window with food in them. In the man himself, Henry “Indiana” Jones, you catch few glimmers of the old Indie, though he’s still appealing for a cantankerous older man. I think the biggest problem is you never get emotionally invested in the Mutt Williams character and hence you never feel emotionally invested in the movie. I’m a huge Shia Leboef fan but you never really catch a glimmer of the mischievous twinkle you see in his eyes in other flicks. His character was flat and in many ways undefined. Marian was brought back, yet her lines were few and the old Marian was not only gone, but replaced by a mindless idiot with stars in her eyes. The intelligent Marian was gone, yet she was the source for the original girl power! Cate Blanchet went between flat and flatter, but that was more of a dialogue thing than anything. Her saving grace was how striking she was on screen with dark hair which made her blue eyes pop. John Hurt was BRILLIANT! The one saving grace of this film. I’ve never seen a performance by him where he didn’t steal every scene he was in. Unfortunately, the movie was predictable to the point of boring. Couple that with the feeling that they didn’t do their research adequately to tackle the topic of Crystal Skulls, Mayans, and Nasca, so anyone who’s watched the History or Discovery Channels in the past few years will be sorely disappointed. Between Spielbergs fixation with UFO’s and Lucas’s fixation with corny endings, you end up with a film without chemistry between the cast which leads to a lack of an emotional investment in their well-being. And this, more than anything saddens me. I’ve seen ET, Star Wars (all), and all the Indiana Jones literally dozens of times – I adore them. This movie saddened me because I know they could have done better.

After a 19 year absence Indiana Jones returns and is in great form. He survives the A-bomb, blow dart wielding natives, avid commies and a double agent. He runs and jumps and follows clues and correctly figures what has to be done. In the end, a whole new generation is ready to carry on the franchise. Great visuals, nonstop action and the return of Indy's best leading lady make this a must see.

I had high expectations for this movie and it has exceeded them. The action, the ability to pay homage to the originals while taking the franchise into the next era of film making and the performances are all top notch. It started a bit slow, but after 5 minutes, kicked in-- full throttle. I highly recommend this great addition to the Indy franchise. And, Karen Allen? Didn't expect to see her again, but she was awesome. Her and Ford both look great for how old they are. Bravo camera men.

All was good and excuseable in the highly contrived world of Indiana Jones -- come on, now, Temple of Doom went insane with that -- but then Lucas had to throw in the monkey scene. Why does he need to feel the need to throw in ridiculous, comical cgi to advance the plot? I wouldn't have been surprised to see Jar Jar Binks appear after that point.

Although this movie is not nearly as good as The Last Crusade, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was really well done. There are several good sub-storylines which are developed throughout the course of the movie, and there is a real nice plot twist at the end. Of, course, there is plenty of edge of your seat action/adventure and high tech explosions. My only compliant is that I believe that the producers relied way too heavily on CG in this one. Although it appears this is truly the swan song for Indiana Jones, the future looks bright for his son.

If you can seriously suspend your sense of reality, you'll LOVE this movie. For me, however, the overall plot was just "this" far over the line of believability.
Pros: The acting was great (how much do I love Shia LeBeouf?) and the action was well-spaced and mostly well-done.
The script was well-written - I loved all the little references to historical current events as well as homages to the previous movies.
Cons: Parts of the CG effects didn't quite do it for me, but overall, I really did like this movie (which is why I give it four stars). If the plot had been more believable and some of the twists not quite so expected, I could easily have given this five stars.
Bottom line, it's definitely worth watching and makes a nice addition to the Indiana Jones series, but, for me, it wasn't quite as good as the other three.

This movie, while not as good as ROTLA or TLC was a good chance to get away for a couple of hours. The movie was well done and as I saw in an interview with George Lucas looks like it could have been filmed right after TLC...the concept while not totally original was still creatively done and well executed. Shia will get some grief as Mutt but his part was well played and he acted as a great companion to Indy. Go see it and enjoy, especially if you enjoyed the previous three movies.

Ok. This movie was good but not what you would expect after a 20 year absence. It was great to see Indiana Jones again and is worth watching for sure, but I was just a little let down. It is action packed and makes you laugh a few times but is a little on the cheesy side.

I had no expectations, other than to see Indiana do what he does...and I was very happy wit the result. The story is good, a little hokey, but all the Indiana flicks have that in them. They ended it well and was glad to see Marion back in the fold.

This movie feels more like a knock of national treasure than an Indiana Jones film. The story is pretty forgettable and has as many holes as a Bangkok Bordello. The action is over the top cartoony and somewhere in the several years, Harrison Ford became Jason Statham and can survive anything. I remember the good old days of a compelling plot and the sense of adventure mixed with danger. I feel like Lucas would have done better if he would have gone to each fans house and just dumped on their porch.

It starts off a little bit... different. Maybe a little forced, as opposed to the "Indy" of days past. But it warms up about 20 minutes in and you definitely get the Indiana Jones feel. I dont care for Shia in general, however he does a great job and I might start to look at him as a real actor. The story lines take a bit of an unusual turn and it gets more corny than the previous 3. But there are some real laughs and great action. Well worth waiting until 12:01 midnight to get in...

I grew up LOVING the Indiana Jones series! And this movie did not disappoint as far as staying in line with the previous films. The adventure was fast pace and the story line slightly predictable but enjoyable all the same. It was fantastic to see Karen Allen and Harrison Ford back together again! My ONE complaint is extra-terrestrial aspect of the story. Since when does Indy deal with aliens and other dimensions? So THAT was a little weird, but not weird enough to take away from the enjoyability of the film overall. Also- may be too scary for young viewers.

So one of the most highly anticipated movies of the year was Indiana Jones and it was well worth the wait. The Lines were cheesy, the punches were as loud as ever and Indiana Jones can still kick some butt. I enjoyed every bit of this movie. It kept to the way of Indiana from previous years. Two thumbs way up!

What a travesty. They get your hopes up that they'll renew a franchise and it will be great, and they end up making a disaster. It didn't even feel like an Indiana Jones movie--Harrison Ford seems to have forgotten how to play the character. The story was contrived and flat, the jokes have all been told before, and the villain was cliched and boring. If you liked the Mummy, National Treasure, or Stargate, this movie might interest you--though it wasn't even as good as any of them. If you really want Indiana Jones, though, just go get Raiders and save yourself 10 bucks.

Spielburg said he'd do this movie "for the fans," and that he did. Not only is the movie done in signature post-Raiders Indy style -- fun (and sometimes campy) action -- it has references to all three Indy films (some more than others), as well as the television series -- the diehard fan will pick up on them right away. John Williams reprises some of his old themes in all the right moments. Plus, what's an Indy movie without the obligatory Wilhelm Scream? Aaaoooww!!!

At first its a shocker to see 65-year old Harrison Ford and Karen Allen together again on the big screen. Its almost counter-hollywood to show aging leading actors - its so not typical although I dont think this is bad in any way.
The movie was a fair rendition of Indy Jones and the typical monkyness that occurs in his adventures. Cate Blanchett chews her dialogue and spits it out; Shia LeBeouf is cute as a button while trying to channel James Dean biker-esque grease monkey of the time.
However it lacks something - hence the 3 star rating. I love the Indy trilogy and was looking forward to this addition. Unfortunately, It really feels like they were stepping through the motions. The storyline had no twists/turns that couldnt have been foretold by a 10 year old newbie Indy fan. Everything was also too easy to get through - no tricky blow-darts to avoid; no requirement to be penitent - just walk in and find the treasure - so unlike the Indy movies of the past. Darn it - he had to work for it - and Indy never did in this one.
The camera work however was fantastic - especially in the chase scenes through the warehouse.
I wont deny the need to see this for the Indy fans - you know you just have to see it regardless of reviews - however hold your expectations low and it wont disappoint.

The first half of this film is awesome! It satisfies all of my Indy cravings and has plenty of humorus nods to the previous films without harping the subject.
The rest was just really good.
Overall, the film focuses a little too much action (or, more accurately, not enough of those signature dire predicaments which call upon brains rather than muscles) and there is sufficiantly more in the way of supernatural themes than in the previous films (and than I find ideal).
Still definitely not at all a dissapointment for Indy fans.
And, though Dr. Jones would disagree, there are deffinately not enough snakes!

Indy 4 was definitely better than I thought it was going to be, but like many other modern sequels, there were too many running jokes and campy humor throughout the film. I would definitely recommend seeing it. (It is Indiana Jones after all.) Just don't expect it to be as epic as the previous three movies. One bit of advice for Harrison Ford.....Just For Men Gel.
