Lets face it, the Star Trek franchise was bleeding out and desperately needed something to keep if from dying. This new trek brings vitality and youth back to the series aiming for a new audience, while still keeping plenty in there for the hardcore fans. I think it succeeded in its goal, and it looks amazing in IMAX. See it for yourself.
This movie feels more like a knock of national treasure than an Indiana Jones film. The story is pretty forgettable and has as many holes as a Bangkok Bordello. The action is over the top cartoony and somewhere in the several years, Harrison Ford became Jason Statham and can survive anything. I remember the good old days of a compelling plot and the sense of adventure mixed with danger. I feel like Lucas would have done better if he would have gone to each fans house and just dumped on their porch.
I know it says I gave 4 stars but its more like 4 and a half. Of all the Marvel origin movies that have come out this one is the best. The cast is really what sells this movie. There wasn't as much action in this film as other Marvel films but you don't care because the cast is so good. The only thing holding it back from 5 stars for me was a weak soundtrack and an ending that seemed a little rushed. For how amazing the visual effects looked they should have shown them off with a more epic battle in the end.
