Being a very big Indiana Jones fan, I found this movie rather disappointing. I loved the fact that Harrison Ford made fun of his older age in it. However, the ending was a little different from how all of the other movies end, it was like the writers felt they should tie the Star Wars movies in with Indiana Jones. The ideas almost cohesively tied together, but not quite, the end, I think, puts it a little too out there. Its decent, but not great.
If you want to see a movie and have yet to see it, or really are a huge Indiana Jones fan, go see it. Just keep in mind, this movie is not what the others are.

I was disappointed with this movie. Seriously... aliens? Also, what was up with all the cute little prairie dogs? There were some exciting scenes, but for the most part I'm just telling people to wait til it's at the $1 rental boxes.

WOW , what a let down!! I went to the midnight showing, I think I could have waited for the DVD. It seemed to me this film was trying to hard to appeal to a younger generation with the alien segment. I was really hoping for more of a mind challenging "grown up" type of story line, however it just wasn't there. While watching the film it seemed to me parts of it were very obviously shot in a controlled environment pretending to be outside. The lighting seemed to be very unnatural. Again a far cry from the past and a big let down!!!

Wow did we really wait nineteen years for this film? I promise not too spoil any of the major plot points in these words. Watching credits after the movie, I was surprised at how empty I felt. Both Raiders & Last Cruisade have a heart/soul that I still react to everytime I watch them; Crystal Skull has more of a Temple of Doom feel to it - glad they made it, but they (Ford, Lucas, & Spielberg) could have done better. All the iconic moments of any Indy film are here and a true fan will enjoy watching it, but deep down a fan will know this fim doesn't cut it!

This was what i expected. It looked like the first three. It had the same humor as the first. It had minimal SFX. It was great. Harrison Ford played Indiana the way you expect it. It revisited an old storyline and introduced a possible new one. The simple gags where very good. I definitely would recommend this to anyone

I had three beefs with this movie:
1. It was predictable. I had the plot figured out by about 30 minutes into the movie.
2. Too much CGI. I don't know why Spielberg and Lucas are so obsessed with CGI. It doesn't need to be used for every special effect! The old Indiana Jones movies looked much more believable than this one, and that's a problem. Your skills should improve over twenty years, not get worse.
3. They reveal too much. Part of what made the ending to the first one so cool was that you never really get to see what the treasure is. Mysteries are a million times more intriguing when they go unrevealed, but in this one they show a bit too much.
None of these things stopped it from being a thoroughly entertaining movie, though, and everyone I went to see it with (we were in a huge group) loved it. It also had a very nice plot element that set it apart from the other movies, but I won't spoil it here.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

As much as I didn't want to, I had to give this movie the thumbs down. While it was great to see the Indiana Jones character again, overall this movie just didn't seem to stand up well next to the other installments in the series.
I think the big problem I had with this movie was, while all the other Indy movies involved him and the artifact and the bad guys and the adventure, with some supernatural/mythological overtones, the supernatural in this movie was much too overt. To be fair, the movie was an enjoyable watch until things started to conclude. Then it just left me with a weird feeling, like "Uh... okay..." I don't want to ruin the movie for anyone so this is about all I can say.

How can you go from the holy grail to aliens? Weak plot and a 2 hour movie that feels like 4, makes this the worst Indy movie ever. If a made for TV Indy movie ever came out, it would be better than this one. And I don't even have to see it. Save money. Save time. Don't follow the weekend box office numbers. The last things Lucas needs is box office numbers telling him that this was a good movie.

I've been waiting 19 years to go back to the theatre and see Indy crack the whip, and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was another trip across the globe for our favorite archaeologist.
Behind all of the layers, Indy 4 is still a period piece, set amongst the rising fear of communism, increasing paranoia from "encounters" people have been having across the world, and generally an age of secrets. The movie does a great job of capturing the feeling at the onset of the Cold War and how it would have affected our favorite archaeologist.
From there, it's Indy as usual - crazy chase scenes, wild animal encounters and just plain beating up on Commies. The ending may throw some for a loop, but I thought that Lucas did an excellent job of playing off people's fears in the late 50's,. If you keep that in mind the ending will fit right in.
If you're an Indy fan, a Harrison Ford fan, or just want to have a great time and see an awesome movie, check out Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

This is not a very good movie. It's well made and execution is near flawless on every level, but the story is just not very good. Indy just moves from place to place conveniently being found, or finding what he needs, or simply thinking for a few seconds and coming up with an answer. Makes me long for the good old clever goodness of "Raiders." Remember when they realized the German had melted only half of the amulet's message into his hand... "They're digging in the wrong place!" Well, there's nothing even remotely that clever in this movie. 90% of the humor is Indy homage or camp. Remember the awesome folding hanger the German guy had in "Raiders"? or when Indy shot the sword fighter? Nothing that funny in here. Nothing even close. Again, action and direction are all superb, but lots of movies do that well. I wish George Lucas would hire Lawrence Kazdan to write a good story for him.

Indy 4 was a very entertaining movie. The plot was good. I like how they brought the chracters to 50s. The only thing i didn't like about the movie was that some of the CGI was kind of lame. And Shia LaBeof's character. He is so annoying in the beggining but then he starts getting interesting during the end.
My Friend came with me at the midnight screening. He never saw the other 3 indy movies. He loved this one.

Harrison Ford continues to deliver his trademark grin & undiminished performance. He's better than the script, but it was still a fun movie: unbelievable stunts executed well enough to make them semi-believable; humor in the vein we've come to expect; and special effects that really are special.

I was dissappointed with this movie. I was a big fan of the orginals growing up and I think they should have just ended it with them. This was an awesome movie as i had bought my tickets to the midnight show 3 weeks ago.
I have always enjoyed all the IJ movies and this one did not disappoint. While, there was a little dropoff from having to dust off the characters from a 19 year layoff and all current action movies taking the Raiders of the Lost Ark formula to action. This was good.
Shia played a very good role.
Harrison was very good and Karen Allen was a welcome sight back in the comfortable role of Marion Underwood.
Cate Blanchett played a very good villainess.
I will go back and see this movie 3 more times probably all this weekend and it is meant to be seen on the big screen.

I was expecting more of a joking movie, but i was shown up big time. They really went all out this time, the motorcycle chase just did it for me and then the boat seen and what Marian pulls on all the guys, just genius. They didn't make him out to be an old man like i thought they would, and they really used historical facts with the time era. The ants, the ending couldn't have been better.

Definitely worth seeing, it just wasn't on par with the other movies in the Indiana Jones series.
It may be just the whole ridiculousness of the monkeys/vine-swinging scene though. I'm of the opinion that can be attributed entirely to George Lucas. I wouldn't be suprised if he tried to use Ewoks instead of monkeys...

The movie was fantastic, until the end. I found it unrealistic and stupid. Parts of it were very cheesy, and parts of it were so dumb. It was not the ending I was expecting to come from Indiana Jones. It was as if they couldn't come up w/ any other ending to wrap it, so they used to most ridiculous ending possible. GREAT MOVIE. but the ending ruined the entire thing.

It's been almost twenty years since Indiana Jones was on the big screen for his 'Last Crusade' and fans have been dying for a new chapter in the saga, however entering 'The Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls' may not have been the best addition to the franchise.
After nineteen years, Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) returns to the big screen in search of a crystal skull which the Russians would like to use against America. The only other character from the previous films returning is Karen Allen, playing Marion Ravenwood.
Fans who've recently seen the previous three films will notice a difference in tone, speed, and structure of this film compared to the others. The audience is thrust into this story as quickly as possible. The other three films warm up to the main story with opening sequences that are kind of related to the main plot, meaning characterization and establishment of the setting, however in this one, we are almost immediately introduced to the bad guy. There are no warm ups I.E. no men in black hats tailing Jones from behind a newspaper.
Indy's usually pretty good at picking friends however one of his so called friends is playing for the other side, which is reveiled in the first ten minutes of the film. It is a character who we neither care nor feel bad for Indy because there's simply no characterization behind him. His handler, Cate Blanchett, plays a villanous comicesque villain right down to her ridiculous bowl hair cut.
However, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull has some good throw backs to the original three. Indy drives and wrecks alot of vehicles (See Raiders of the Lost Ark), Indy is also forced (or he's rather curious) to look into the eyes of the crystal skull (See Temple of Doom when Indy drinks the blood of Khali), and of course the comical banter between Henry Jones, Sr. and Jr. in 'The Last Crusade' comes out between Indy and his new friend, Mutt (Shia Labeouf).
The other aspect of this film that makes it different from the others is that is in danger of taking itself too seriously. What I mean by that is that it is funny and Indy has his comical quips but no where near as much as the other three. Marion and Indy rub each other like sandpaper to start but eventually she becomes more lovey dovey than I remember her being in the first film. At the same time Indy doesn't have his same old comical moments during extended fight scenes which was a dissapointment as well. The previews also advertised the fact that team Spielberg and Lucas took into account Indy was no longer as young as he used to be, and there were only a few moments when we were drawn comically to that.
Overall it's an entertaining film, however fans of the other three will be dissapointed and feel jipped. The experience of seeing Indy on the big screen was still refreshing due to the fact I was too young to see the others on the big screen when they originally came out. It's entertaining but I had a feeling just from watching the previews that this installment would've turned out just OK.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

KOTCS provides the same level of action and adventure as the previous Indiana Jones movies. Although this one dwells a bit more on other-worldly mysticism [and thus, some of the criticism that the movie could be called "Close Encounter Part II"], the witty dialogue and chase scenes (and twists) draw out the audience laughs and gasps that this type of movie deserves. We caught the first midnight showing and can gladly say we didn't mind losing a little sleep to see the movie.
Of course, I had to wear my 1984 vintage official Indiana Jones hat, a leather jacket and brought the moldy Indiana Jones whip with me (although I left it in the car). My hat was older than most of the people in the theater. The theater manager and the night duty police officer remembered the previous three movies but few others there would.
