Another disappointing Potter movie...especially the ending. I have read all the books multiple times, but I do understand the need to omit/make changes for a screenplay. The deatheaters destroying the burrow...what's all that about? I thought the idea was to keep the movies true to Harry & his relationships. Dumbledoe asking Harry if he's dating Hermione? Come on!!! I'm sure this movie will get better ratings from those who haven't read the books.

I kow i am one of only probably four people that did not like the movie. I found the movie to be slow paced at a number of spots. Too much time was spent on developing the young love sub plot. Many of the more interesting secondary characters were not even in the movie.

I happened to like the movie very much, but it is helpful to have read the book first. I thought that the acting by the guy who plays Malfoy was outstanding! He really captured the subtle facial expressions that relayed the internal emotions. All of the "child" actors were very good, and I liked the feeling it left me with at the end...kind of a foreboding, which is consistent with the ending of the book.

Never read the books, but have seen the movies... this one is the best. It's an actual movie with characters that are actually using powers that they say they can do rather then being a bunch of wimpy little magic spells that are boring... However, seeing all the magic that they can possibly do, i still don't understand why everyone can't just fly around and sneak up on people and kill them, it's a movie I know but put a tiger in the vanishing box and send it to the bad guys. And how come the old guy dies? Couldnt he teleport or whatever he did again when he saw it coming?

I have no idea why the critics are so bad for this movie?! I just loved it! Ok, it might not follow the book completely but it was able to give a nice round story with all the important aspects covered. I also liked the "teenager problems" - without them the movie would be very gloomy. All in all a great Harry Potter movie! One just is surprised at the end that 2 and a half hour are already over....

I was so looking forward to this movie, and left the theater quite disappointed. It was a good movie, and definitely was a good set up for the final chapters of the story. But, wow......Where was the fight at the end? I thought this one did a good job at following the details of the book, but then the ending......WHAT? Where's the fight between the teachers, Hagrid & the Death Eaters?!?!?!? Total bummer.....

If you are going to this movie with the expectations that it will follow the book, you will be very disappointed. They change details and leave out two very important things that would have made the movie much more powerful. It seems that they focused way too much on the teen romance and ignored most of the history and details of the connection between Potter, Dumbledore, Snape & Tom Riddle. As far as a Harry Potter movie goes... I still think it was a GREAT film. I would highly recommend that you go see it... but don't expect to get much satisfaction out of staying true to the original novel.

I just read the book again before the movie came out and was thrilled to see how they condensed a huge novel into 2 and a half hours of movie fun. Yes, it is different but so have all the movies been different than the books. Still full of magic and emotion with plenty of actor development shown by the young stats.

Of all the movies, this one follows the book most closely. It removed the scenes that weren't needed like Fluer, but kept the important scenes that move the plot forward.
The biggest let down is the missing fight scene at the end. Why did Draco sneak the Death Eaters into the castle if there if there was no final battle between the Death Eaters and Dumbledore's Army? I can only hope it relates to the next movie.

I am a Fan-atical Harry Potter reader and until yesterday have enjoyed all of the movies. I am very understanding when it comes to book-to-movie translation. This latest H.P. was however a TRAGEDY! Major plot points were cut, Slughorn, Dumbledore and Snape were played completely wrong and the Horcrux almost seemed like a side plot to the relationships. Honestly I have NO IDEA how they will connect the final movies with this as the set up. The CGI was awsome but the story was all wrong. My wife hasn't read any of the books and even she felt this was nowhere near as good as any of the other Potter films she had seen. In conclusion; After making us wait soooooo long for this latest H.P. movie I feel seriously let us down.

By far, the weakest of the Harry Potter flicks to date. It seemed to be more interested in portraying teen-age romances than anything else. Slow moving. It should have been edited down to 120 minutes. If they intend to make two movies out of the final book to maximize gate receipts, this series will end with a whimper.

I agree with many of the reviews already shown here. It was not a "bad" move, but the movie did NOT meet my expectations. I also read the book again, not too long ago. It is so well written and the molding of Tom Riddle and his history plot was almost completely left out. I did not feel Harry's turmoil over Dumbledore's death. Why was the safety part of Harry having to return to the Durdley's left out. Almost negates the beginning of Movie 7. All the love angle's should have been secondary to all the memories cited in JK's written word. I would go see it again to see if I liked it better the 2nd time. I went looking for J.K. Rowlings Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince and that is not what I got.

I will start by saying that I read HBP a few years ago so I wasn't trying to compare it to the book. I think it is crazy for people that expect the movie to mirror to book. With a book of that size the movie would be over 4 hours long!
My daughter and wife said the ending was sad and didn't give you a sense of accomplishment of Harry's mission but that's the way the book ended. The Deathly Hollows will tie all the loose ends up for fans of the series.
It was nice to see Ron finaly see that he is the apple of someones' eye.

Here's a tip for movie makers: when you have limited time to get in all the key elements of a story, don't add stuff that wasn't actually in the story. . They had so much ground to cover with so many important plot elements that it should have been two movies. Instead, they spend all their time on love potions and skip the battle scene at the end. . Even my 8-year-old daughter complained about how much they left out. . Ultimately, I could have just waited for it to come out on DVD.

Anyone who read the books is at a slight disadvantage when watching Half Blood Prince. There's a few deviations from the novel, but nothing too dramatic. The only major flaw is the lack of scene transitions- the film jumps from one scene to the next erratically, and some of the emotional scenes are far too contrived.

The film is arguably the best to date. With the maturity of the actors comes the maturity of the films, sincerely, but fans of the book will be slightly disappointed. The relationship between Ron and Hermione is built up to almost nothing in the film. Hermione sulks and cries about Ron the whole film and by the end Ron doesn't even remember calling out for her in the hospital after he's poisoned. The funeral scene is missing completely. I thought the character relationships fell by the wayside, but there are some very cute and funny moments and despite the novel differences the film is certainly enjoyable and worth the look on fellow theater goers faces at the end.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince was truly dissapointing. For anyone that has read the books, this movie will not even come close to living up to expectations. This movie was a lot of hype... and dissapointment.
Forgoing the final battle scene inside the castle and on the grounds is practically unforgiveable. That should have been the scene that got everyone excited to see the final movie (two films). Instead you are left walking out of the theater disappointed.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Definitely didn't seem like it was 2 hrs and 33 minutes long. Sound effects and special effects were incredible! I just don't want this movie series to ever end. They still don't do the books very much justice but how do you fit 800 pages worth of a book into a 2 hour movie?

I like the movie (because I love all the previous ones) but other reviewers are right there are a lot of important parts that were missing. I watched all the previous movies at least twice; this one probably won't be. I really hope they won't make the same mistake with the Deathly Hallow.

I'm known to be a tough critic, but this movie in a nutshell was great. I ended up taking my mother who is 59 and has only read the first book, and my son who is 6 and just getting into the series. They both loved it as well. The action was terrific, and they always do a good job on going back in time to give you a bit of a refresher of the previous encounters. Snape is great, as well as Professor Slughorn. As always the effects were outstanding, and as for those people bashing it because it wasn't as detailed as the book.... well get over it. You will never have a movie that is as detailed as the book. If there was one downfall it was that they never showed Voldemort.

Since they turned the last book into 2 movies they basically (in my opinion) just tied up a lot of loose ends. Made sure to get all the relationships started, made sure all the kids are young adults now, made sure the table is set for the home stretch of Harry Potter. I thought the movie would have more action then it did and have more magic. It was mostly about young wizards in relationships and Harry and Dumbledore. At first I was disapointed but as I thought about it I understood kinda setting the table for the end and making sure people that didnt read the books know why certian people do what they do. I think now that the calm before the storm will set up for 2 of the best movies ever still to come!!!

While the Half-Blood Prince movie was not 100% faithful to the book, it was more than good enough. Minor stuff was left out; minor stuff was added. I took a friend who had not read the book and she loved the movie. I had read the book, and I also loved it. Yes, there were differences between the movie and the book, but not, IMHO, worth quibbling about.
