From the previews of this movie I was expecting something with more action. The half blood prince felt like a transition movie, the relationships were a huge part and were never properly addressed in the prior movies. Also, Draco plays a big part in this movie, something we don't always see. He is very dark and more mysterious than before. Overall the movie was well played and gets you properly position for the final 2 movies but don't expect a lot of action. You will enjoy this movie if your a harry potter fan and have been keeping up with the movies.

For the most part, I agree with the other reviews that have been posted. The movie adaptation was transformed into a mainstream love-story monster that tried to mix in the actual story as only a sub-plot. In doing this, they bastardized a foundation that could have been a fantastic film instead of just another magical love story.

The movie started off with a bang. Then it seemed to wander along aimlessly, with many silences and ponderous moments. Alan Rickman was way too slow in his line delivery. I've never been able to get used to Michael Gambon's Dumbledore and in this film, D's most important, I missed Richard Harris more than ever. This was supposed to be the great HP/Dumbledore bonding story, where we learn about D as a boy and how he came to know Voldemort. So much of that was missing! And the girl playing Ginny is just terrible. The producers did their best to hide the fact, even placing her in shadow and hiding her head behind Harry's. I would recast for these last two films if I were them.

Ok, people, if you actually think this movie "riveting"? Someone has been watching some really bad movies!!! It was an ok movie. Of course they did vary from the book, but come on. A bumbling Ron??? A young lady that has a borderline psychotic attraction. These are supposed to be 17-18 yr olds? I have not seen anything like that before from any young adults in my lifetime!!!! There was NOT that much action. The acting was not that good. I did like the computer gereration though. So this is a good rental, but 11$'s at the theater??? Not hardly. And its getting more and more bad reviews as time goes on. Hope the next one is MUCH better.

much more exciting and thrilling than past harry potter movies. the audience seems to have grown with each movie as well. there were only two kids in the packed theater i went to, many folks were older than i am. i thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it but was also left wanting a more conclusive ending.. hopefully the next and final movie will be the best out of all of them.

This movie was the best yet. It was tastefully done with the lighter and darker scenes. I like that they really try to do an appropriate portrayl of the books. I don't like when a movie strays from the storyline a lot. It's nice to see the same actors from movie too movie too. That really makes for a more enjoyable film. I will definently be adding this one to my collection. I hope it braks many records and wins many awards because this movie is very deserving of them. Break a leg to the cast and crew on the next one cuz this one will be hard to beat. Excellent job. They did J.K. Rowling justice. The all around production of this movie was astonishing. Good entertainment is hard to find these days, but they got it wrapped up.

Not that I expect every movie based on a book to be exactly like the book -- or we would have been in the theatre for ten hours -- but when directors ADD scenes that didn't take place in the book, I get frustrated. Too much snogging. But the cinematography and special effects were great. I enjoyed it, I guess I had higher expectations. I'd like the beginning of the movie to be like the beginning of the book. Harry in a coffee shop, checking out a waitress. . . when did that happen in the book? Maybe I sleep-read through that chapter.

In the parts that were in the book, it was good. However whenever they went off the book it was BAD VERY BAD!!!! No Bueno!!! They changed a ton, and one big screwup that could come back to bite the producers later. As much as I loved the books, I went in knowing things had to be cut. But when the movie makers decided to follow the love story more than the actual story, I grew severely disappointed. It became a teen love flick not a HP movie. Towards the end things started to pick up but it was too rushed to be truly enjoyable or memorable. The effects were good and the acting was nice.

Acting of the kids is getting better and better (Daniel and the pinchers at Aragog's funeral) Yate's creative license and screenwriting are so bad that I'm not looking forward to the next movies. After the drivel that was "Order," which Yates directed, I was hoping Steve Kloves back for screenwriting would make up for Yates. Wrong. How on Earth are they going to move the story forward to "Hollows" without the backstory on the rest of the horcruxes or shell cottage. Impossible to stay true to books but whole Ginny room of requirement scene and destruction of the Burrow were a waste of minutes that could have been used to move the story on its rightful course.

Let me start with I would recommend this to all families with children over the age of 12. It is an adventure in fantasy. There are a couple of scarry parts, that your child will need to be able to handle. If you love Book 6, you will still enjoy this movie. While liberties were taken with this film and scenes added to include non-book readers, it's still enjoyable. Die-hard book readers will notice some scenes were left out especially concerning the Weasley family dynamic but it doesn't take away with the theme of this movie and the huge task that awaits Harry in Book 7, movies 7&8. The standard is high for Rowling/Potter fans and this director, David Yates, I believe, has done a great job.

Well the thing I was anticipating in wanting to see in this one was Lord Voldemort. At least I had thought he'd be the one who'd have major presence in this one. Instead we find out who the Half-Blood Prince and Dumbledore's demise. The pace in this one, call it editing call it what you will was simply not there. I have read reports that this one may break the $1 billion dollar mark. I don't know what oxygen these reports are breathing but it certainly won't break The Dark Knight's record, let alone the billion dollar mark. I think this summer's blockbuster is TRANSFORMERS!

This movie was fantastic!!! I am a huge Harry Potter fan and enjoyed every bit of the movie. It kept me on the edge of my seat. You should review Haryry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix before seeing this movie, as it picks up where that one leaves off. I wish they could have covered more in the movie that was in the book, but understand since it would make it very, very long. But that really would not matter to all the fans out there. I can't wait for it to come out on DVD so I can add to my collection!!

This was the first time I saw a Harry Potter movie after reading the book. The 1st 5 I did the movie first, then the book. I think that is the way to go. It allows you to love the movie and then be blown away by the book.
Having said that, I still really enjoyed this movie and they did a good job setting us up for the last book (two movies?). I could have used a few more background scenes from the book on Tom Riddle (especially about his family and the ring).
Overall, a good movie experience. Can't wait for the next one.

Overall we loved the movie. There are some parts of the book missing that I think are important to fully understanding what is going on, but it is hard to fit so much content into one film. The acting is excellent, Malfoy and Slughorn won't disappoint. A must-see for all fans.

Overall I was disappointed with this movie. Granted there was a lot to pack in. But it wasn't just that things were left out, but it was the way they handled what they put in the movie that bothered me. Storyline wise, Snape was treated far too simplistically. so much time in the beginning of the movie trying to be funny (which aside from the love potion scene fell flat most of the time) that they didn't even have time to add in some other important book details. As well, possibly attempting the dark and foreboding mood of the last couple of books, the pace felt incredibly slow. make it a matinee so you can save a few extra bucks.

I along with many others have waited a long time to see this movie. It followed the age format of the characters and there behavior, which makes it harder for younger followers to appreciate. There was a lot left out from the books once again. Story line has changed some. I feel the director didn't have the same excitement about the movie as all the past directors. The emotion was played down on the death sceen along with not being as funny as previous movies. I was disappointed after waiting for such a long time. But I'm still a Potter fan.

I thought the movie was well made, hilarious and over all a success. My only complaint would be that it was a little anticlimactic. The last half hour was somewhat of a let down. It almost seemed as if they did'nt fit enough into the first hour and a half and realized they ran out of time and ended it as quickly as possible and fit in what they could. I would have liked to see more of the book in the film twords the end. Over all it was worth going and seeing.

i thought this was the best potter yet! I truly enjoyed it. I went to the midnight showing and then i already saw it again last night. I thought it was well paced, had good humor, did a good job of catching us up on the social aspects of the series, and just making us want more! I definitely suggest seeing this one multiple times :)

This Harry Potter movie seemed directed at the true Harry Potter nerd. Having read all the books and being a Potter nerd myself, I enjoyed the movie and was able to follow it well. Much was left out of the story, of course, but for those who know the books well, it is still easy to follow the story from the movie. I did notice, however, that many people complained as leaving the theater that the movie made no sense. My conclusion is that this movie is very enjoyable to those of us who are true Potter nerds and not just the movie goers.

I have not read the books, but I am an avid movie goer. Something was missing. It may have been in the editing (and the fact the theater was so cold you could hang meat, making it hard to concentrate). But what I saw left me in the dark (no pun). Relationships seemed murky at best. I thought the best character development was Ron Weasley. Lovely seeing him grow up. Generally speaking, I was disappointed.

This movie will not disappoint. I was worried that it might not follow the book or hit key points of the story like some of the other Harry Potter movies, but, it was perfect! Of course it is not exactly like the book. However, it did cover all of the major points and interesting scenes that I wanted to see on the big screen. I almost want to go to the theatre and see it again. I LOVED it!!!

I enjoyed the movie immensely... if u haven't read the books... it would stand awesome by itself. I, like others who have read the books, are wondering what happened to some, what I believe, crucial parts... I am very happy with the movie, and it did touch alot of the crucial parts. I am curious to see how the final movies will play out with a couple of pieces missing. The special effects, acting, everything was perfectly executed. Movie goers will enjoy this movie immensely.
