Cinematography much improved, actors did well, music (as always) is a good backdrop. Drives me crazy they invent scenes not in the book and drop important scenes that ARE in it. Despite that, still a good movie overall, but read the books!! So much superior to the movies...

If you are a Harry fan, and love the books, skip this film. I was very disappointed. The movie focused on the teenage romance angst, and not on many of the elements that are needed for the next film. There was no mention of Bill and Fleur, and where did the whole fire at the Burrow scene come from? The fight scene at the end of the 6th book was deleted, and that has important precursors for the next book/film. Kreacher, who also plays a role in the next book, is missing as well, as is Dumbledore's conversation with the Dursleys. Overall, while the darkness is building, the movie was a major disappointment.
I would not recommend this movie to a friend.

I'm a huge fan of the entire series and was not happy last year when Warner Bros delayed the release date on this newest movie for sure, BUT... After seeing it yesterday, it was worth the wait. I do wish the ending more closely resembled the book's but still a great movie. Would I see it again? Absolutely!

This movie was good, but as I do with my tv series, I would consider it a filler movie. Which means, it wasn't too wonderful, but you had to have it to get where the next movie needs to be great. I about cried when dumbledore was in the fight with Malfoy. I would recommend it, because Harry Potter is just great, neat scenes and Hogwarts coolness. But not as great as some in the past.

While I thought it was still a good movie, I was disappointed with some aspects. First, where was the funeral. That needed to be in the movie. Also, why did they blow up the burrow. Obviously they are not planning to do a wedding scene in deathly hallows. Lastly, I think they did a bad job showing the harry/ginny relationship. After the kiss you didn't see them in a bf/gf scene again. No other smooches, no holding hands, nothing. As the movies go it was good, but they missed some key elements.

In comparison to the other HP movies, this is one of the best. The storyline is as close to the book as you can get w/out having to sit in the theater for 6+ hours. Certain disappointments were the beginning and the end. I would love to have seen the Dumbledore/Dursley scene as well as Dumbledore's funeral. Somehow the ending isn't as poignant without the funeral as Rowling wrote it. Also, the lack of Order of Phoenix members in this movie is surprising since they play quite a big role in the book. Interesting to see how they will be incorporated in the last 2 movies.

It has been a while since I read the book, so I've forgotten a lot of the details of the characters and plot. But, this movie was entertaining and kept me reminded of the details of the story line. While I'm sure there were many scenes omitted, with such a huge book, this is to be expected. I loved it and can't wait for the next!!!!

The movie was average in most respects with only a few real highlights to it. Most of the details of the book were not captured accurately which was a disappointment. Coming from a huge HP fan, it's unlikely that I'll watch this again until it's out on DVD. I can only hope that the next 2 movies for Year 7 captures the story accurately to redeem themselves from an otherwise average movie.

Once again David Yates demonstrates his inability to focus on the important details that make these movies and books transcend the merely good.
Inserting action where there was none in the book and, unforgivably, removing it from the final scene is just one example of this.
No Dawn French, no John Cleese, no Dursleys to add sparks of humor to the somber story (something Rowling always does); no funeral for Dumbledore to add pathos--this guy gets it wrong more often than right.
The romances are well done and the effects remain excellent. Alan Rickman is brilliant as usual. Worth seeing in the theatre without question. Just not worth seeing twice (I returned my second set of pre-ordered tickets at the end of the movie).

I just saw the movie Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and upon hearing from a friend who has read all the books that the story is the same there, just stopped being a fan of J.K. Rowling. Translating a book of length/complexity into a movie requires details be left out. Too much book for one movie. It is effective & entertaining. (Edited/directed better than the utterly abysmal C.O.S.) The youngster playing young L.V.--R.Fiennes nephew--is absolutely chilling. That bit of nepotism is infinitely forgivable; he is stunningly perfect. Complaints re: lack of an "ending" may relate to the fact that it doesn't end with D's memorial, which provides closure to the book. Guess: They will open the next w/ that; occurances & perceptions there drive much of the final storyline. Overall, a fine adaptation; non-readers should be able to follow, effects are clean, and the acting is quite credible.

Not that this movie wasn't enjoyable (it was, and the teen love angst between all that characters was downright funny), but this was probably the weakest of the Harry Potter movies as far as plot goes. In the battle to fight Lord Voldemort, Harry has to find out the secret memory of one of his professors, which takes about 80 percent of the movie. In the meantime, there are quidditch matches, the typical shenanigans with Draco Malfoy, etc. - not exactly suspenseful stuff. I know this follows the book pretty closely, but maybe this (and the book) should have been folded into one of the other stories.

it was missing some significant plot points from the book, but overall it was good. Dumbledore never told Harry he inherited everything from Sirius, which includes Kreacher. The Bill, Fluer thing is important for the next film, which I suppose can be explained then. Why did they destroy the burrow? That was weird and unnecessary.

Overall the movie was only O.K. I feel that a lot of the book was left out for some reason (time constraints?...). It seemed that the director focused on too much of the non-important issues and left out some of the biggest, like the battle at Hogworts at the end of the book. I wonder how they are going to resolve those issues in the next movie. I would recommend the movie, but only to those who did not read the book. Anyone who read the book will probably be disappointed. Even with all that, I will probably still buy the movie to keep my collection complete. The books are sooo much better. I recommend that you read the books to really see what you missed in the movies.

I took my oldest daughter 11.5 yrs, my neice 9.5 yrs and my son 5.5 yrs to this movie. The two oldest really enjoyed it as well as I did, but I do not recommend this movie to anyone who has young children. My son is a huge HP fan, but this movie was just way to over his head. I kept waiting for something to happen, but the movie just jumped around from one filler scene to another... it was like watching a bunch of random commercials for the same product with the same actors stuck together to create a long movie.

Just as I expected more, I realized it jumped to a new area. If you have not read the book, you will be left wondering if something wasn't missing as it was a bit disjointed. Maybe a two parter or an intermission would help. Nevertheless, I will see it in IMAX with my son later and not spoil it for him. Please hold true to the storyline on the next one. HP's are very intense and just can't be cut up~~or they lose continuity and anticipation of excitement. Effects were good but fans may be disappointed because of the gaps~~

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. While it isn't my favorite neither was this particular book! I don't agree that the acting was bad but they did leave quite a bit out and only touched on I guess what they figured was important. I agree with others that major parts of the book were left out; however, for those who are not readers of the book, the movie will help to advance the storyline sufficiently that you'll be ready for the next movie. It was still very good such that 2 1/2 hours went by very quickly!

Taking in consideration this was a good movie. Expecting a movie version of the book is out of the question, it is imposible to translate the book to the screen. It may take more than 3.5 hrs movie. I believe this was a good movie that complements the book.

A fan of the series this latest and suposidly the last in the series was a disapointment. The action was slow and the ending a downer. If you are a fan you must see it however don't expect much, compared to the others this does not compare.

This movie is fantastic! It was very true to the book though it couldn't possibly cover ALL of the great stuff that was in there. The director chose to focus on the elements that would lead us into the last two movies and also keep the tone very serious and dangerous. Throughout you can feel what is at-stake for the wizarding world if Voldermort gets his way and if Harry does not succeed. Helena Bonham Carter is also wonderful in her weird creepy way, reprising her role as Belatrix LeStrange. A must see for Harry Potter lovers!
