Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince succeeds with lighting action and a thrilling story about the-boy-who-lived in his sixth epic year at Hogwarts! This is a well made film, don't get me wrong, but a plethora of scenes are left out making the bestselling book a whole lot better in comparison. The movie not only leaves out scenes, but it also leaves out the emotion that we all knew and loved from the first few 'Potter' films. This was still a good film, but it won't succeed overall as the best of the 'Potter' films.

We liked this movie ... we already have tickets for the IMAX 3D release! One comment ... we are really looking forward to the book 7 movies (glad they;re making 2 movies for book 7!) ... the books are so involved, that some of the details are lost by attempting to adapt the movie to fit within a 2-2.5 hour-time slot. Warner Bros. should produce extended versions (like LOTR). I have seen longer versions on TV, with the deleted scenes inserted in the proper place that are included in a 2nd separate special edition DVD set, which also included interviews with the starts, and behind the scenes information.

Reasonably good movie that played as close to the book as possible. Characters remain above average and the plot line creates an interesting jumping off point for the trio from Hogwarts to the real (?) world. Having read all the books does not dampen the anticipation of the final movies release.

Not very good. Many parts missing that were important. Obviously all could not have been included, but the parts that were could have been more like the book. All in all the only thing that kept me from giving less than 3 stars is the comedy moments, which were pretty funny.

This latest installment of the Harry Potter series was just okay. The last two were fantastic, and this one just doesn't compare. The pace was very slow, there was no huge climax or standoff. It just really seemed to set up the next one (two?). I really expected more, and if this were not Harry Potter, and especially if it were a standalone movie, it would have gotten a 1.5-2. I was so disappointed.
Alan Rickman was absolutely terrific!

While keeping the essence of the book, the movie cleverly incorporated much humor as well as deep sadness. I am curious to know the purpose of the added scene, however, since there was so much from the book that could have been done instead. Wonderfully scored with superb special effects. I cannot wait to see it in IMAX theaters at the end of the month.

I really enjoy watching the characters grow up and the story evolve. This was a darker movie than the previous ones. The Half Blood Prince rotates among all those emotions - with much more laughter than most Harry Potter films. But then there's that scary water scene and Tom Riddle is pretty scary, too - plus the sadness of losing Dumbledore. Then Harry feels very alone. Really loved the scene where Harry finally got the memory from the potions professor.

Enjoyable movie that was by and large faithful to the book. The acting was convincing - in particular, Alan Rickman knows how to make every gesture speak volumes. There were several small but important pieces of information omitted from the movie - especially further elaboration on the identity of the Half-Blood Prince - but overall the book-to-movie transformation did well. The movie ranged from the highs of love to the lows of sorrow and loss.

The acting is superb! Snape's character, as always, is so well acted. Draco Malfoy does an excellent job, you even find yourself pitying him. And who knew Ron was such a good comedian? If you have read the books, this is a MUST see. Kids should do well with it as there is no Voldemort in this film and only a 2-3 minute episode with the inferi where they would need to close their eyes.

I love how the central themes of the 6th book - namely, friendship, trust, and devotion - are emphasized in this film. It is true that certain details of the book were changed. But what the film leaves out in the way of plot details, it makes up for in character development.
After all, the central actions in the 6th book are completely moot. No one accomplishes any of their goals. Instead, it is how the characters relate to one another that is the main event. The Half-Blood Prince isn't really about the search for horcruxes. It's about Harry becoming wise enough and strong enough to conclude his adventure. This movie does a beautiful job of portraying that.

An excellent movie all around.
The acting was top-notch. The direction was great: good pacing, not dwelling too much on any one thing, nor overly frenetic jumping from one scene to the next.
The story is great: a good balance of developing the characters, their relationships (and romances); humor (Ron is especially funny); conflict; danger; and of course the climactic battle scene.
The movie definitely assumes that you're well familiar with Harry Potter. This is a good thing: most people who would see this movie would have by now read the books or seen the previous movie. The magic in it is simply part of the story -- it isn't used as a "Gee, wow" gimmick anymore, which would have been boring.

Very suspenseful, very well made. Yes, it's hard to fit in all the material from the books, but they've done a great job in the allotted time. Excellent performances by some of Britian's finest actors. We absolutely loved it! Please note that we don't try to compare it to the others in the series and we don't expect every detail from the book to be in the film.

Personally I disliked the book. I loved the movie. I was surprised that I enjoyed it so much. It did not follow the book as closely as the last few movies. It may be that the filmmakers will make up for lost storyline in the next movie since they divided the 7th book in two. Wonderful movie! The young actors improve with every movie. Lots of details were left out, of course, but the spirit of the book is there with teenage angst and fantastic scenery and special effects. Well done!

A little slower than the others, but truly an epic film and one not to miss! It's amazing watching these kids grow up on the screen. Alan Rickman and Helena Bonham Carter were outstanding. Everyone reminds me that this is only "the first part," but being one of the few that don't read the books you are definitely left wanting more.

OMG! I love these movies and this one is another chapter in the great series! I always leave wanting more...which is good, thats what keeps it going! Can't wait for the last two. Yeah, there making 2 movies for the last book... milking it , baby.

Finally here is a movie that followed the book as close as it could. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince was an enjoyable 2+ hours of family entertainment. I know I took a 1 year old a 4 year old and an 8 year old who set from start to finish of the movie. The 1 year old was in a trance the whole way through the movie. Now if Hollywood would continue to follow this formula maybe we could have more movies the same as this awesome movie. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
