I've loved Harry Potter ever since I was a wee one, but somehow never got around to reading the sixth and seventh books. This being the movie based on the sixth book, I was obviously concerned I wouldn't be able to follow along. Thankfully, the movie kept me engaged the entire two and a half hours I was there. The plot, while being filled with endless twists and turns, was easy to follow and a joy to watch. I'll definitely see it again!

Although there were quite a few (I thought) important details left out, this was still a really great movie. Without giving too much away...I thought there would be more of the Voldemort memories shown and are they just going to write out the whole Bill and Fleur storyline completely or throw it in at the beginning of the next one??? Overall, it was good...special effects were pretty spectacular and there was some pretty good humor this time around.

I am a huge Harry Potter fan, and although I thought the movie was filled with fantastic acting, and was humorous and entertaining, as a fan of the book series, I must say I was disappointed in the anti climactic scenes at the end. I can not understand why they would change the ending when Draco confronts Dumbledore? That changes everything including the rash actions that Harry sometmes makes. Harry would not have hidden without being stunned if he thought his friend was about to be injured, let alone killed. I also think the scene with Snape and the Death Eaters was so downplayed, it left me wondering why?

I thought this was a great movie. I have read all the books, but it's been about four years since I've read the half-blood prince. Of course they can't include everything that happened in the book otherwise the movie would be waaay too long. I love watching these movies b/c it puts a visual on what I thought things might look like.
I loved harry's sarcasm in this movie and the relationships were an important part in the books, so I'm glad they depicted that part well. The final scene was also not disappointing. IF you love the books, just don't re-read them before you see it; b/c you might end up disappointed with details they left out. Overall: great movie!

As expected some of the book didn't make it into the movie - but you can't expect 600+ pages to be added.
The movie overall was good, it is definitely worth going to see.
It was much better than order of the Phoenix and sets up everything for the final two movies (part 1 - nov. 2010 .. part 2 may 2011)... Just a thought - but those movies will have to be rated R to capture everything (pg - 13 minimum) - I was surprised this was rated pg, if it was pg-13 it would have been better (because more would have been added).....

I'm not going to say it was great, because as other people have stated, they left things out. A lot of backstory was dumped for the sake of progression, so you missed the Lupin/Tonks storyline, Harry's dad wasn't brought up at all, and Ginny's romances with other people were kinda glossed over, etc, and they changed some parts in comparison to the books, ie the end. There were a few slow parts in the movie, but they were necessary for the story sake of it, and if those parts were rushed it would have made the movie overall seemed rushed. Overall, I enjoyed it, I'm just glad the last movie is split in two even though the book was predominately very slow in action.

As a huge fan of the book series, I was disappointed by the huge deviation from the story line. Character events were switched between characters, changing the significance of the event. Scenes were added for dramatic effect that didn't occur in the book and will effect the accuracy of the next movie and many things were left out. However, the movie had delightful special effects, several "laugh out loud" moments, and kept true to the lighter side of the story. Overall, the movie was worth watching, however, if you are a huge fan of the book series be prepared for some degree of disappointment.

For those of you who are fans of the HP books, this film is a great disappointment. There are several key plot and story elements from the book that are NOT shared in this movie. For those of you who do not read the HP books, you might find this movie very hard to follow. If you are seeking a Twilight-esque teen-angst movie. HP is definitely the choice for you. There is very little action. Hardly any quiddage and no Malfoy smart-alec comments. In fact, Malfoy has hardly any lines compared to previous HP installments.On the whole, I found this movie to be a terrible disappointment and an insult to HP fans. So much so, I can only pray for a re-make that actually does the book justice because this movie is not what HP fans deserve.

My husband, 9 yr old daughter and I all enjoyed the movie immensely. Good effects and 1 make you jump scene had us all doing just that. Overall thought it was very good, but not one of the best. Am looking forward to the next one!

This was definately the funniest of the movies, great lines, the kids are growing up, so is the humor! However, it was one of the darkest in the overall story line. I won't give anything away, but there were several things missing that were in the book. The end leaves you needing more. Of course its worth seeing, but I hope we don't have to wait over a year for the next installment. Lots of loose ends. Hope the next one comes out soon!

I thought this movie was the best Harry Potter movie that has been made yet. The director did a great job following the story line (trust me, I've read the book many times). And you have to take the little changes with a grain of salt - this is a MOVIE ADAPTION people, things do change for the big screen. The only thing I found disappointing was the end of the movie - the death of Dumbledore strayed too far away from the book and was very anti-climatic for the end scenes - they cut out the huge fight scene, where Bill is attacked by the werewolf - but all in all I found it to be quiet entertaining, comical, and cute.

This movie (and book) is more of a setup for the final battle between Potter and Voldemort, so don't expect the same level of action. It's still a great section of the whole story, but focuses more on relationships and the life of Tom Riddle. My only big complaint is that horcruxes were not covered nearly as well as they were in the book. Dumbledore suspected a lot more about them than the movie suggested. It will be interesting to see how Harry gets this info without DD's help. As in all the movies - the book has much more detail than could possibly be covered - so read the books!!

Not going to lie.. I was disappointed in this movie. Being a huge fan of the books and liking all of the past movies I was really excited about this one. Unfortunately I feel like some things were missing that were kind of important in setting up for the next movie as well as explain exactly what was going on in this movie. It felt a little dis-jointed and wasn't near as exciting as the book was... especially the ending which I won't ruin for those who don't know what happens at the end. I truly thought this was one of the best Potter films yet- they handled all the information from the book wonderfully and what they added fit well- it was impossible to fill the film with everything so I am not upset by what was left out. I loved that the theatre was laughing out loud so many times and the way they portrayed the teenage romances was so realistic (minus the love potion of course!)- and they young actors outdid themselves this time, such witty and subtle performances! Also, a great set up for the last 2 films!

It's bad when your 10 year old leaves the movie already listing what wasn't in the books. I was greatly disappointed at the mangling of such a good story. There were huge plot holes, such as why would all the deatheaters need to get into Hogwarts just to turn around and leave? In the book, there was a huge fight for the sanctity of the school. There was also a funeral. I could go on and on about what they left out. The addition of more storyline for Draco was a nice addition, but a few other changes left me nonplussed. Also, I have to say that Jim Broadbent as Slughorn steals the show. That was some awesome acting.

Most people compare the HP movies to JK Rowling's actual novels, while yes, it would be great if every part of every book could be added to the movies it is not practical. If you look at HP 6 from the movie series point of view it was an excellent addition to an already magical series. The movie has an obvious demographic. Younger people and scrooges will not find it as entertaining. On another topic, the movie did add humor to an otherwise dark and what could have potentially been a depressing movie, but in no means did the director or the actors down play the serious important scenes. Overall I enjoyed the movie and I look forward to the two part HP7

I have to agree with earlier reviews that the acting talent what quite remarkable and the CG was flawlessly integrated with real footage. But the story lacked the deep traces of Voldemort that I felt was the real power of the book. Maybe it was a target audience decision. Overall, great movie that I would be happy to see again!

They did a good job squeezing as much information into 2.5 hours as they could, but there was still a lot of detail left out. If you haven't read the books, the movie will be entertaining and interesting. But if you have read the book, you'll miss some of the really good background information and the details that they leave out. But I loved the movie, and always enjoy seeing how they bring the magic to life on the screen!

As a huge fan of the books, it's always a dicey move when seeing a movie adaptation of a book. You are always afraid that the only similarity between the book and the movie will be the book title and the character names.
Nobody could compress HPatHBP into a 2.5h movie, but I felt they did a great job of capturing and portraying the critical plot points, while revealing the relationship evolution of the students.
We will probably go see it again (possibly in iMAX), so consider this a glowing review.

Why too much focus on the tween relationship drama and they completely glossed over the climactic end battle scene and death of a master. Where the previous movies did a decent job of re-working a book story into a movie, this one fails.

Amazing! Best one yet! Dumbledore's character was so much better! He is actually coming closer to book Dumbledore, though maybe not quite there completely. The cave scene was amazing! I liked Slughorn and wasn't too upset with the things that they left out because I felt that they captured the overall essence of the book. I only have two criticisms, first, the scene where Harry and Ginny kiss. I mean, it was right after Harry cursed Malfoy and it seemed really irreverent and took away from this horrible thing that Harry had just done. The second one is that they didn't talk about the Horcruxes more. I feel this is minor because they have two movies to explain more fully about them for 7Anyway, the movie was excellent!

Its really awesome. But I hope lot of the scenes in part 6 will be explained in detail in part 7. Acording to the books, we have to wait and see for part 7. The half blood prince part is really good. We didn't realize that we watched 2 1/2 hours movie, we still were hoping that the movie will continue. Really good.

Half Blood Prince was probably my least favorite book in the series, but may well turn out to be one of my favorite films. While some questionable changes were made, they evidenced a thoughtful approach to maintaining the feel of the story. Overall the film is very successful, even with the piling on of teenage romance and tendancy towards bathos there at the end.
