This was a good movie, but not a great movie. I was disapointed by a few scenes that I looked forward to seeing after reading the book.
Example the storming of Hogwarts by the death eaters...what storming?? Where was the chaos? where was the battles? where was the intense acting and drama I expected to see when the death eaters invaded the castle? The movie failed delivering the intense battles and destruction that raged through Horwarts in that scene. A scene I feel was the most important to portray accurately. The action leading up the the death of Dumbledore was anti-climatic.
In a book that was so dark and intense the director took the lighter route in making this movie. The movie was obviously toned down for the kids.

This is up there with the first two Harry Potter movies. They stayed pretty true to the book, although, did have to cut a few things for length I'm sure. These movies are all excellent for the true Harry Potter fan that has read all the books and then re-visited all the previous movies for a refresher. For someone just coming in to the movie, I don't think it would make much sense.

Huge fan of Harry Potter movies and I was not disappointed in this one - but it was not the best. Felt it was slow and slightly disjointed in the earlier part - but it definitely got more cohesive later. As always, love the actors, the cinematography, the premise.

I was originally excited but then very let down by this movie. The major problem I had was the ending and weak ending left me with a poor final impression on the whole film.
The book had a great ending with a big action sequence following the crucial event that happens at the end. For some reason the writer/director saw fit to omit the most cinematic part of the book and trade it for a weak action sequence that they made up to stuff into the middle because it didn't have enough action.
It was a decent movie, passable, but a let down for true fans as opposed to fanatics and nothing worth getting excited over.

OotP was too short. This felt longer in a good way. We see a lot more magic. The actors are keeping it fresh & not phoning it in. The direction & editing was great. The soundtrack & fx really conveyed mood & emotion & pulled you in. Snape is shown as more “human” & conflicted in this film. We really get a sense of the pressure & torment that Malfoy is going through & actually feel empathy towards him. The finale of the film in the astronomy tower will bring tears to your eyes. There was a lot that had to be cut, trimmed or modified. The pace of the movie was good. The story moved right along & wasn’t held up. I was not bothered by the changes but am curious how they will resolve some plot points in DH when the setups were left out of HBP.

This film was fun throughout. It touched a bit more on the relationships between the trio and the emerging hormones that teengers are dealing with at that age. Ron & Lavender's 'fling' might make you cringe a bit... but I think it was not over the top. Daniel is excellent in this film, though there is one scene in particular that involves the use of a certain potion that was really good - and gave him a chance to be a little out of character. There was one significant dissappointment, but I will not add that here. Let's just say that the last 60 pages of the book was much better done than the last 15 minutes of the film.

Dark, well acted and basically true to the story. Strangely for a movie, action sequences were deleted, which detracted from the climax of the movie. Also literally 5 minutes more of screen time would have fleshed out plot points essential to Deathly Hallows, I assume they will be developed in the sequels. The young cast can now fully hold their own with the surrounding cast of magnificent old pros.

Hands down, best movie of the series so far. I don't know if it was all the director or if it was partly the screen writer, but there was a lot less junk added that wasn't in the book. My biggest issue with prior movies was all the extra scenes they added that were solely for special effects or weren't true to book just to make the director look good. This movie was MUCH more true to book. Also, the subject matter is more interesting (older kids, more action in the plot) and the acting has improved. Radcliffe still SUCKS as an actor, but he sucks less. And everyone else was better, which made up for it.

I enjoyed this movie as a movie but I felt it didn't convey the feelings in the book-too much emphasis on humor, not enough on Ginny & Harry's relationship, Harry & Dumbledore's relationship, Dumbledore's explanations about how to defeat Voldemort, grief for Dumbledore's death, shock Snape had been the one to kill him, so many more points were lost. I didn't like David Yates as the director for the Order movie and was unhappy that he was picked to finish the series. I keep hoping that he'll redeem himself--but this doesn't seem to be happening. My last point (plot spoiler) when, when would Harry ever do as Snape asks him to do--like I said as a movie it's good but if you love the books it's a disappointment.

I think this one was the best of the series. The acting has improved tremendously, with scenes of truly believable emotion. Nice mix of humor, pathos and suspense. Beautiful cinematography.
It was obviously a bridge to the final segment of the series so the ending lacked resolution, but that's acceptable since it was the same way in the book.

To say the least, I was very disappointed in the direction this movie took. I did read all the books and this one was the deepest and darkest of the series so far. Surely there were teenage hormones - but so much silliness?? - it was too much. I do not feel it did any justice to Rowling's marvelous work on The Half-Blood Prince. However, I will say that Alan Rickman was most outstanding and true to character. 5 stars for him! The cinematography has been praised - I thought it to be mediocre and not complimentary for the "big screen" in that it was too shadowed, even the nature shots, and at times difficult to see, especially backgrounds.

Thoughly enjoyed the movie. How ever in a effort to keep it short for the masses who can't sit still enough for a 3 hour movies, It ended up a bit chopped in places. The story was great as always, it was intresting to see snape and dumbledore work out their agreement. The effects were wonderful the 1st sequence flying thought the strets of london was increadble. great job in the character develpment.

With the HP movies I try to take them as a different piece of work than the books. It was really hard for me with this movie because a lot was left out. I understand they have to cut some things out so the movie isn't 6 hours long but I think that they leave out a lot of important information pertinent to the story. I think that this made the movie a little choppy and it would be hard for somebody who didn't read the books to understand the whole story line. The humor was excellent! The FX were good. They just needed a little more time on the important stuff rather than the silly stuff.

Excellent movie. Of the 5 HPmovies made so far, this is by far the most dark of them. The characters have grown up and the theme is more mature that the other movies. Conspiracy, vengence and killing are the focus of the film and are done in great manner.
I just wish that the movies could be exactly like the book, but if that happened then we would be in the theatre for 5 hours... not suha bad idea.

I think that this movie cut too much info out. I know that the industry has limits on movie lengths but it compromised this movie. They left out the big battle scene at the end. They also left out a lot of info on Voldemort. Info that explains why Voldemort is the way that he is. Much of this stuff is needed to explain how and why Harry defeats Voldemort. I am interesed how they plan on remedying this in the last movie.

As a true lover of the books I missed some of the plot lines and characters deleted, but overall felt it held true to the spirit of the book. In short, I loved it, can't wait to see it again. Previous films left out scene and chapters due to time restraints and simplicity. Up until now the movie makers have done a great job without compromising the stories' action/fantasy elements and heart of each book. In Half-Blood Prince the book is stripped down to a boring 2 and half hours. Pivotal scenes were omitted. (Why was the Half-Blood Prince the Half-Blood Prince?) Action was almost non existent. (What happened to the amazing climactic battle from the end of the book?) The relationships were stale and unbelievable. (Why was so much time spent on character interaction without going anywhere?) Did J. K. really approve this? They dropped the ball with this one in a big way.

From the point of view of a movie only fan, the movie was amazing, and had a lot of really good fight sequences. But since I have read all the books, I don't like the particular scene where Bellatrix Lestrange and Fenrir Greyback attacked the Weasley's house and burnt it down. Its not because I personally hate and despise Trixy, because I do. I hate it, because they could have cut that scene and added more important scenes to help the audience understand things they left out that were in the book. For instance, there were no part where they explain that Grimwauld Place was given to Harry along with Kreature. That's where something big happens in the seventh book.

Yeah typical Harry Potter movie where it is not humanly possible to compress it into a 2 1/2 hour movie. But I still would recommend it. The 2 1/2 hours goes by very quickly. The areas that needed to be intense were not as intense as they could have been but for those who may not have read the book I am sure this is enough. And even those of us who "religiously" follow the series and books still let the tears fall in the outcome that that we have dreaded from the beginning of the movie. Long Live Dumbledore!

Although the movie was 2 1/2 hours long, I felt like there was some story and character development that was seriously curtailed. (Ron Weasley' needing confidence while playing Quidditch. The death of Aragog.) Other than that, the movie kept me riveted and the 3 main characters/actors have grown up and developed the ability to show humor and even sarcastic humor. I found myself chuckling right along with everyone else in the theater. I can't wait for the next movie!
