This film is definitely a must see on the big screen. it is both visually stunning - and the story is beautiful. It is a story of love, betrayal, greed, and vengeance. The main characters are well played, and the science fiction immersive and believable, The kids will enjoy the film - but you will need to do some quiet reading of sub-titles if you bring children under 8. I was siting in front of a family doing this very thing - and was not disturbed by it.
This film was fun throughout. It touched a bit more on the relationships between the trio and the emerging hormones that teengers are dealing with at that age. Ron & Lavender's 'fling' might make you cringe a bit... but I think it was not over the top. Daniel is excellent in this film, though there is one scene in particular that involves the use of a certain potion that was really good - and gave him a chance to be a little out of character. There was one significant dissappointment, but I will not add that here. Let's just say that the last 60 pages of the book was much better done than the last 15 minutes of the film.
I saw this last year at the Seattle International Film Festival. It was amazing! The anamation is every bit as good as Pixar, but the story was much more deep and relavent to our times than I had expected. Kids will love it, but adults will take something more from it I believe. An over-arching theme of this movie: "In war, no one wins". I think this is a valuable message.
