Rarely do films of this nature meet the hype they build up before release. But The Dark Knight not only meets all of its hype it exceeds the expectations of critics and fans alike. The story is much deeper this time around as characters are more real and everyone is more vulnerable. Keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire film. A masterpiece start to finish.
And yes Heath Ledger's performance was really quite good.

I loved every minute of this movie. Heath's Joker was twisted, evil and funny all at the same time. He was the best villian I've seen yet. Out of all the Batmans, this movie takes the cake. May He Rest in Pease and we thank him for a great performance that will live on forever.

Heath's vision of the Joker is beautiful. A truly demented, manipulating, psychotic villain who has a goal and a driving vision, no matter how warped that vision is. He stole the show and made the movie the blockbuster that it is.
I found Christian Bayle's performance as Bruce Wayne / Batman to be lacking. He is simply too dry / not expressive enough to make the role really shine. Or maybe I'm over critical because of Downey's superb performance in Iron man. Either way, Batman is reduced to a supporting character to the Joker in this movie.
Still well worth the time to see it, the movie is very good.

I was not very optimistic when they cast Heath as the Joker, but I got very excited when I saw him in the previews and I was impressed. His performance was above and beyond what I expected and truly made the movie great, best of luck to the poor actor who has to try and play this role in the next film. I only wish they had shown off the new and improved Batcave hinted at the end of the first movie, but I guess Ill have to wait for the 3rd one.

It was a good movie for what it was. I am a fan of batman but I believe it was only seen as much because of Keith Ledger. He played a great great role. If I could base it on individual roles then there would be a few characters that would get a 5 star. over all I've seen better. This movie I can't say I would bring my 4 year old niece to.

Great character development, constant action, fabulous gadgets and mechanical devices, strong plot, and top-notch acting. If you didn't know it was Heath Ledger behind the paint, you'd have no idea it could be him. Was on the edge of my seat the whole 2.5 hours. An expert production in all ways.

This is the best batman, summer, year movie ever. the plot is excellent and the joker is the best Villain acting i have ever seen. i mean this guy is great like you would not believe it. i wanted to go to the bathroom so badly that my bladder was going to blow, i really mean it, but the movie was so awesome and so great that i hold it until it was over. i could not miss anything from this movie. i recommend this movie to anybody, it is a great experience, it just worth the $26 plus food i paid for it.

This movie was okay.... It was a little too long and I think they took too long to introduce Two Face... They could have made it about 20 mins shorter and it would have been much better... Although this is rated PG13... I don't feel that rating is appropriate. It was extremely violent and at times hard to look at. (I covered my eyes several times). Rent it for your kids. I think it's been so hyped up because of Heath Ledger, and I do think he deserves an award for his performance... (his character was really sick) the rest of the actors were only so-so.

As a group of seniors we banded together for lunch and matinee showing of Dark Knight. Right from the beginning there was believable content and action. This visual treat beat like a boxers heart and the sound was music to a retiree's ears. The Joker's role was like finding hidden money and is Oscar material. I did not like the scenes with "Two Face" because it was
unnecessary and too far out. We did not leave our seats although enlarged prostrates were knocking at the door. Its a long movie but we enjoyed it all. Why the sad face?

Coming from someone who usually does not like Comic Book movies, this was a very entertaining movie. Personally, I think it is worth seeing, but not really more than once. It keeps you engaged the whole way through, and The Joker character is haunting. Heath Ledger gave an amazing performance, and is the most worthwhile part of this great movie.

This was a really good action-packed super-hero movie. I have to admit that seeing Heath Ledger look as bad as he did in the character made it a little bit creepy but it also showed what a great actor he was destined to be had he not died at such a young age. I can't image watching it if I were his mother.
In my opinion it is not a movie for kids under about 10 - there were some little ones in front of me and they seemed very frightened by it - it's a very loud movie too and that added to the fear factor for little ones. I went with my 18 year old son and it was a great mom/son date movie! We both loved it and I would (and will probably) go back and see it again. I wasn't crazy about the actress who played Rachel and didn't like the way her part of the story wound up, but it was a great movie none the less. Mr. Bale is the best batman ever. I also love the fact that Gary Oldman is a good guy in these movies. He's always been a favorite of mine but he's usually very disturbed and/or very evil. If you like action movies, you will like it even if you're not a super-hero fan.

Excellent movie. Just saw it last night. Great story line. I loved how dark it was. Certainly not a kiddie movie by any means! Great special effects and great views of Chicago. Heath Ledger was so unbelievable! I don't think anyone has or will play the Joker better. It's gonna be tough to fill his shoes in the next one. He was so despicable but so likeable at the same time.

I love every Batman movie ever made and there is no exception to this one!!! Even though this one had a different feel than the older ones, funny enough it seemed more realistic. It was definitely a good flick. My 13 year old brother really liked it too. My fiancee liked it, but said it may have been a little too long at the end. Overall rating from us is... 5 stars!

With the hype and hoopla surrounding this movie and the untimely death of Heath Ledger, I can say that I went to this movie with high expectations and I was not dissapointed. Mr. Ledger easily steals the show and his performance can only be characterized as possessive, dominant, and demanding. I thouroughly enjoyed his portrayal of the Joker and even more so how he made the character his own. Christian Bale (Bruce Wayne), Maggie Gyllenhaal (Rachel Dawes), Aaron Eckhart (Harvey Dent), Michael Cain (Alfred), Gary Oldman (Gordan), and Morgan Freeman (Lucius Fox) all turn outstanding performances in their individual roles. I think I most impressed with the realism behind each of the characters and the vulnerability of their flaws. Easily the best batman movie of the enitre series!

Ledger's Joker is of course *spectacular* and freakishly believable, freak that he is. The script has its characters spelling out the "moral of the story" so many times that one wants to throw one's popcorn. Setting Gotham as a "real" city was a terrific decision. The fight scenes, however, are difficult to make sense of and weary the viewer. Batman Begins didn't have this problem, and Nolan is a gifted director, so there must be something new that he's tried and not quite mastered.
The fundamental problem with Nolan's confusing action sequences may be that he shot them in the tall Imax aspect ratio, but the vast majority of us will only see these sequences clipped down to wide-screen ratio. We lose the peripheral information the editor and director could see as they were shooting and editing the film. Just as the old 'pan-and-scan' re-editing of a movie like "The Good The Bad and the Ugly" for 4:3 TV screens could make messy nonsense out of a real work of art, the "Dark Knight" available to most of us in the theater now is not quite the picture conceived by its author. Someday I hope I can see this in Imax format as intended.
Verdict: it's rentable, unless you can see it in Imax. I bet seeing the BluRay will be a more satisfying experience than seeing it in a standard theater now.

I loved the darkness of this flick. Ledger's portrayal of the Joker's psychosis felt very true to the character. Bale's bat-voice was rather odd at times, but really didn't take anything away from the beauty of the movie.
