When I was leaving the theatre I heard someone say, "That was the Empire Strikes back of Batman", and I couldn't agree more. Christopher Nolan has hand crafted the "Guiness" of movies. It was dark, full bodied, with an amazing finish.
My only complaint, as with any good beer, I wanted more. The movie weighs in at two and a half hours, but I left thirsty!! I could tell that some "Bruce Wayne" scenes were shortened to leave room for the main course, and that is the Joker.
If fans of the late Heath Ledger are heading to the film to see him in one of his last roles, they will be surprised. He is no where in this film. But what Ledger has created will be burned into film history and into the mind of any movie goer, forever.
The entire cast is UNBELIEVABLE! In sports, people say that competators give their best when they face the best. Well, every actor in this movie faced up against Heath Ledger and gave their very best. Every performance all the way down to the small one-liners are brilliant.
If you are not a comic-book fan, and have been trying to decide on wether or not this movie is for you... You are thinking to hard. This is not a "Comic-Book-Movie". This ia a dark and twisting film, that is surprising and spellbinding...

The movie was awesome! I wanted to see this when I first heard about it. I didn't jump on the bandwagon just because of the passing of Heath. His performance was incredible and so believable! Every else did a great job as well. I smell a posthumous oscar for Mr. Ledger

This movie was great! A wonderful job of balancing action scenes with dialogue....Some recent action films have scenes that go on and on to the point of being boring.
All the actors played their roles exceedingly well - I wish there had been a little more character development on Bruce Wayne. Heath Ledger did a SPECTACULAR job with the role of Joker.
The editing on the 'gory' scenes was refreshing, cutting away just in time as to not witness the act, but with enough information (and sound effects) to know exactly what happens. I wish Hollywood would use this technique more often!
The special effects were also wonderful....not overdone and very believable.
The only 'bad' part to this movie is that we can't look forward to sequel with the Best Joker ever - Heath Ledger -.....So Sad )-;

So, I thought Heath Ledger's performance was absolutely brilliant; his humor really carried the movie along when it got slow (which was most of the time). I thought that overall it was a good movie however, they could have easily cut out a half hour of the movie; it was just way too long and drawn out. Plus, the ending was very anticlimactic.... it was like okay, I've watched the last 2 hours and 20 minutes of this movie now lets see the grand finale. The movie just fizzles out at the end, no spectacular end battle between batman and joker or anything like that! I definitely expected more...

It is a longer than normal movie but so was the first one. Saw it at midnight and enjoyed it a lot. The Joker character was actually very well played by Ledger. Definitely go see one of the best movies of the year.

This newest Batman movie, Dark Knight, is by far one of the best action movies of all time! The Joker is awesome in this movie, and I've never seen anyone do the Joker as well as Heath Ledger did. Christian Bale did another excellent job portraying Batman in the movie, and there were so many stunts and awesome moves throughout the movie. Michael Caine is also by far the best Alfred that the Batman movies have ever seen.
If I have the chance I will probably see this movie at least another three times while it is in theatres.
I would not be surprised if this movie ends up winning oscars and academy awards. Heath Ledger just might win best actor for it, or possibly best supporting actor in a leading role, or something similar.
It is by far the best role Heath has ever played, and he played the Joker very very well. It is also one of the best roles that Christian Bale has ever played as well.
Overall, I would rate this movie a 10 out of 5 if I could. Very well done. Mostly all of the movie keeps you on the edge of your seat.

I watched the midnight showing. This is the best movie I have seen this year and I am a huge movie buff...I have seen almost everything out. Heath Ledger's performance is more than outstanding. The next actor who portrays the Joker has huge shoes to fill. It makes one even sadder that this great actor is no longer with us. All the talk of an Oscar nomination is well deserved. The cast was well developed and although I am not a comic book fan and can't reference how true to the original line the movie is I believed the performance were superb. Christian Bale again shines in the title role and proves to be a terrific actor. I also enjoyed Maggie Gyllenhaal in the supporting role as Rachel Dawes far more than that of Katie Holmes. I give it the highest rating possible.
Needless to say I will be watching this again but this time in IMAX.

Went and saw this movie at midnight, and couldn't get to sleep afterwards. I kept thinking about all that I saw and was completely amazed. The movie was extremely well done. The cast was impeccable in their roles. But for me, this movie was all about Heath Ledger. He stole the show. I morne the loss of this talented actor and I almost cried when he said " I think you and I are destined to do this forever."
We love you Heath and miss you greatly.

The Dark Knight is the best adaptation of a comic book/ graphic novel character that I have seen to date. The dark side of this film is what every comic book aficionado looks forward to when going to the movies. This was a graphic novel on screen. It did not try to pull any punches, paint a rosy picture, or provide an idyllic Hollywood ending, as most pictures tend to do. As such, it distinguishes itself from many other big-hit blockbusters that feed the audience eye-candy and don't allow them to think for themselves. Yes, if you haven't seen the film yet, this movie is as cerebral (reflective) of modern, post-9/11 America as it is eye-popping.
This next paragraph willl be devoted to the criticisms of the picture, which are few (and don't hold the film hostage), but are still worth noting. The story was told brilliantly, however TOO MUCH was crammed into the script. The creative team must have felt that this was the only way to relate the narrative, but some of it made you work too hard to keep up, or made you wonder if you missed something as you were laughing at a quick quip. Everything piece of dialogue is important, so you have to pay close attention to what is going on. The whole narrative revolves around the dialogue, and there are very few (if any) throwaway lines. With so many subtle and not so subtle societal comments to express, it can become work to take them all in, even if they are interesting in the way they are presented. I found myself whispering to a buddy "What did I miss?" or "Why did he/ she do that?" a few times during the film. It wasn't that I wasn't concentrating; it just comes at the viewer in a flood.
Now to the good stuff! I LOVED the way the film was able to weave action/ adventure/ post-9/11 domestic and global commentary into a story about a vigilante, and what he means to the people in the context of their society. It was a stroke of genius. Batman becomes the anti-hero and he knows it, and he doesn't shy away from it. He understands that people won't like him b/c they feel he is above the law, but he knows his role, and is trying to setup someone else to be his successor (Harvey Dent). Dent is referred to as the "White Knight", in sharp comparison to Batman's "Dark Knight" persona. The movie points out that in the end, even the most well-intentioned, law-abiding do-gooders (Dent) can be corrupted if you hit them in the right way. However, the dark, reclusive vigilante who people love to hate is above corruption, b/c he has been to the bottom, and it has molded him into something more than a mere crimefighter. This misunderstanding of the two characters is reflective of the everyday dealings of many minorities in tis country, who are the last people to commit a crime, yet are the first to be branded when something goes wrong. There are many other examples, but I will leave those for the viewer to discern.
Beyond that, what makes this film work more than anything else is the performance of Heath Ledger. Without his extraordinary turn, the movie doesn't come near to the success that it is and will be. Indeed, the movie revolves entirely around him and how he manipulates Gotham and its underworld to his personal bidding. I was cautious before the film b/c I was concerned that early reviews of his performance were somewhat kind b/c of his untimely demise. However, after seeing the performance, I have no qualms in saying that he should be nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his performance. Granted,, it's still early in the moviegoing season, but nothing else I've seen this year made a believer out of me than the Joker come alive on-screen. He made a somewhat silly, fun character become demented and terrifying ( and far too real for comfort!). He is truly a cut above the average criminal, b/c he understands what make ssociety tick, and what throws it for a loop. The thing I took from this Joker was that for all of his sociopathic tendencies, he was quite rational in his rantings, and I was able clearly identify with much of what he said about society (which is a little scary!)
Ledger's performance wasn't the only one of note. All of the key players did their job well, especially Maggie Gyllenhaal, who replaced Katie Holmes as Rachel Dawes. This was an upgrade, IMO. Bale is always solid, playing both roles, and keeping you guessing how does he hold both sides of his identity and his life together? Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, and Gary Oldman all deliver believeable, likeable performances despite their limited screentime.
The action was excellent. Nolan delivered beautifully, especially with his choice of the City of Chicago standing in for Gotham City. This simple step provided a sense of realism, beauty, brightness and hope to a city that was on the ropes after the first film. It helps the viewer identify real-world landmarks, and appreciate what the real world has to offer. The camera work was well done toward the end of the film, particularly in a scene where the Joker hangs upside down from a building, but it appears as if he's flying upright. I thought it really showed how much the Joker was in charge despite being nearly killed.
All in alll, it was very well done, and I can't wait to see it again. Hopefully, I'll be better rested and catch some things I missed the first time around. As I said before, the social commentary is very effective, and makes the film more about life in a fearful American society, rather than simply a comic book film. I hope you enjoy my review, and more importantly, this film!

There's not much I can say about "The Dark Knight" that hasn't been said in reviews without spoiling the movie for others, but I will say this: I wasn't a really big batman before this series started, but as soon "Dark Knight" was over, I turned to my friend and said, "let's go see it again." The Joker really steals it and you get to see Batman fight a little more than in the last movie, but it lacks that cool ancient history thread it had in the last movie. No matter, the joker's so awesome it negates small details like that

Ok all fanboy gush aside...this movie was amazing. Heath Ledger, if her was even in the movie, stole every scene even the ones he wasnt in! What I mean is that you forget who the actor is playing this psychopath. He is absolutely lost in his performance. Every second he is not on screen you are wishing he was. I grew knowing the only joker for me was Jack! This is no longer the case. Visually the movie is stunning...BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY NOD! Heath will most definately get tapped for best supporting...How could he not his joker was amazing.

The Dark Knight from start to finish was absolutely breathtaking. Heath Ledger gives a performance that will no doubt go down in history, as one of the most disturbing yet extremely entertaining villians of all time. Christain Bale once again did a phenomenal job reprising his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman. Aaron Eckhart's performance as the District Attorney Harvey Dent/Two-Face was also a thing of absolute beauty. Of course, nothing would have taken place if it wasn't for the direction and originality that Christopher Nolan breathed back into the beloved superhero. It was a job well done all around, and makes us all want more of "The Batman".

Simply fantastic. Took everything that was great about the first film and built on it to make it even better. Returning stars Bale, Caine and Oldman are all great, while Ledger and Eckhart dive deep into their roles and create perfect characters. Definitely worth seeing as many times as you can. I plan to see the IMAX version very soon as well!

To have seen two intelligently conceived comic book movies in one summer--'Iron Man' and now 'The Dark Knight'--is simply amazing. This one packs so much visual and narrative virtuosity in its action-soaked, tension-filled running time that it's hard to believe it's only about two-and-a-half hours. Be aware, though: In a film bursting with great performances--including, of course, Heath Ledger's already legendary take on The Joker--it would be a Gotham-sized crime to overlook Aaron Eckhart's brilliantly shaded portrayal of Harvey Dent.

As good as the first film was in bringing back from the film franchise dead Christopher Nolan gets it even more right the second time around. The plot, characters and situations are an improvement over the original. Christian Bales performance like the first is definitely the best Batman ever and I would have to say the same about Heath Ledgers performance as the Joker. With this movie we can cast out the over the top performance that was Jack Nicholson and bring in a Joker that is actually a formidable adversary to the Batman. A hero is only as good as the villain that he has to go up against and the Joker doesn't let down. Batman basically has himself up against the wall the entire film when dealing with this new menace. All said if you like a good comic book style action picture or for that matter and well developed character film then The Dark Knight won't disappoint.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

This installment of the BATMAN franchise is by far the best yet! Wow simply AMAZING!! See it at least twice to see all of the things that you missed the first time.

The movie was excellent! I would definately recommend it to others. It was kinda slow in certain parts but those parts are completely overshawdowed by the special effects and other qualities of the movie. I would see it again

This movie was fantastic -- not a minute that wasn't excellent! Can't recommend it highly enough. A couple of graphic scenes of violence but what do you expect when fighting crime?!? Seriously worth the effort to see it at midnight. Lots of subtleties I explained to my kids (11 & 14) since I've been reading Batman comics forever. Christian Bale is the perfect Batman and, RIP, Heath Ledger was incredible as Joker. Only thing I would change is the forced, raspy voices they used -- made my throat hurt listening to them!
