I wanted to give THE DARK KNIGHT 4.5 stars because it was better the Good but not quite Excellent. Don't get me wrong, (I usually do not agree with the majority of movie goers but) Heath Ledger's performance was phenomenal!!
Christian Bale was good as well as Freeman, Oldman, Eckhart and Caine. However, Maggie Gyllenhaal was not so good. There was no chemistry between her and her leading men. Part of the problem was the script which was very choppy in the beginning. It felt like the writer didn't have time for development and wanted to get right to the action. There was also a bizarre echo in the dialogue in the beginning of the movie (which could have been a theatre issue). Speaking of sound, there were a few parts where the music was too loud to hear the dialogue and you don't need eerie music to build a scene.
For you action lovers, there is plenty in this movie to keep your adrenaline pumping. And for the ladies, Christian Bale's tormented Bruce Wayne will have them swooning in the aisles.
Set aside the few distractions I mentioned above and you have a wonderful piece of film that has captured Heath Ledger's talent and will help his spirit live on in our memories forever.

There is not one dull part of this movie. I absolutely loved it and anyone who is a fan of batman or the first movie or superheroes should see this as soon as they can. It is 2 1/2 hours but does not feel like it and keeps you entertained the whole time.
This movie is different from the first because we see very little Bruce Wayne and a lot of Batman and a whole lot of the Joker. The Joker is definitely the star of this movie and Heath Ledger did an amazing job; better than Jack Nicolson, which is crazy (and opposed to others, I am not just saying that because he is no longer with us).
Christian Bale did a great job as he always does, and his cool new gadgets and tricks got a lot of cheers and excited whoops! in the theater.
Aaron Eckhart did a stand up job as well creating a good character and while Katie Holmes is not a great actress, the fact that she didn't want to come back is bull but Maggie Gyllenhall did perfectly fine.
I could go on and on but I don't want to give anything away. All I can say is, I went to the midnight movie and waited in line for 2 hours for good seats, and as soon as I can I am going to drive the hour to the closest IMAX so I can get that experience as well because I think it is going to blow me away again!

The movie was incredible. Theacting was impecable and stood up to all of the hype. The lot was intricate and kept you guessing. The pecial effects were well done without being cheesy. Overall a truelly superb movie.

Wow! This movie was awesome. The story and acting was amazing. Heath Ledger was amazing as The Joker (best supporting actor oscar? I think so).
Something that is both a positive and a negative is the story line. The positive is that the plot felt like an actual story and not a movie. Meaning that it didn't feel like a neatly packaged plot. The whole story has a few mini-stories that build up the entire plot. And the sum of parts make the whole even better. The negative aspect of that is that the movie seems to have multiple endings and that can kind of throw you off. But it was refreshing as well. I'd more likely give the movie 4.5 stars because of this.
The movie is very very dark and disturbing, especially the Joker's character. Makes your skin crawl at how evil he is. Jack Nicholson has nothing on this version.

"Dark" is an understatement. Though the overall landscape of the movie was much brighter than the 1st movie, the content was much deeper, darker, and disturbing. Heath's performance met all the hype; he was eerily believable as the psychopath Joker.
Everything from the subtle humor, graphics and make-up were all top notch. Surprises are in store for those who haven't watched it.

This film has almost all the elements of a great film. The writing is superb, the acting is excellent.
Really what keeps the film from achieving greatness is it's muddled plot. There never seems to be any climax and thus there's no real resolution. The final scene leaves one wanting more and tries to end with an ESB style cliffhanger but doesn't really have the emotional impact of it's Star Wars equivalent.
The performance of Heath Ledger as the joker is alone worth the price of admission. However, you're unlikely to want to visit this film a second time.

This movie is the BEST movie of the summer, year, or maybe of all time. All the hype and teasers for the Dark Knight were perfect because they didn't spoil one thing. You may think you have an idea of whats going to happen but you will be amazed throughout the entire movie. Heath Ledger is by far the best villain I have ever seen and he kept it up the entire movie. If he doesn't get an Oscar for this performance than the Oscars would lose there specialness all together. Its the MOST action packed and entertaining movie I have seen in a very long time and it will be hard to go see anything else now. The simplest and best way to describe it is PERFECT. The only thing you'll leave the theater upset about is that fact that Heath Ledger isn't alive to receive the praise and credit he deserves. I will pay to see this movie over and over again. Although it is almost 3 hours, you feel like you could watch it all day and night. You know a good movie when you are completely captivated in the story and forget where you are and who you are for the entire movie. If you could only see one more movie in your life it would have to be this one.

Of course i dont want make this movie seem much better than it really is ....but that might not even be possible. It's a movie that is so shocking, and in certain cases disturbing, you cant believe you're watching a batman movie. Christopher Nolan not only made Batman movies seem so realistic and cool, but he just made himself my new favorrite director. Aside from the fact that Christian Bale made himself the new definite Batman, Heath Ledger was in fact better than everyone made him out to be. His performance handsdown may be the best i've seen ever. Anyone who doesn't appreciate this movie does not appreaciate the art of film. Handsdown......best movie i have ever seen.

Nolan makes a very modern Batman with intense action and visuals. His packs in themes of hero and idol worship, loyalty, and where the line is drawn between justice and the law. The only downers: Maggie G is too sexless (observation by Howard Stern) and the final third of the film is a bit too long, but it's great 2 1/2 hour ride.

It was a pretty long movie but every moment of the movie had you staring at the screen because it was so good. There was never a dull moment. Heath Ledger definitely did a fantastic job as the joker (way better than Jack Nicholson). The special effects were the best I have ever seen , and I've seen a lot of movies. The acting of all the character was suburb. Overall it is going on my top ten movie list.

It wasn't what I was expecting that was for sure. Though I will admit I mainly went to see the late Heath Ledger play Joker. I was not entertained by any other character. It seemed to me that the only times when the movie was actually good was when he was on screen, and though I tried to enjoy it since I was up at midnight to see it, it really fell short of my expectations. Another thing is that it was really too long. I remember when it was only an hour and a half into it and I was thinking that it had to be almost over.
There was just too much talking for me.

I really liked this movie. It didn't quite live up to my gigantic expectations, since I loved Batman Begins and thought this was going to be the best movie ever, but it was great nonetheless.
Ledger was awesome. Bale was Bale, very solid. I wasn't blown away with Eckhart as Harvey Dent, and I wish Katie Holmes had stuck around. Michael Caine was good as usual, but Morgan Freeman's character was kind of lame this time around.
The movie was a little long, and it suffered a little bit because for any long periods of time that the Joker wasn't around all I wanted to see was more of the Joker.
Any Batman fan will definitely like this movie.

The movie was great. Heath Ledger doesn’t just make the movie…he IS the movie. Don’t get me wrong…all the other actors are quite good. Even the story has some interesting depth to it. But I was riveted to the screen every time he was in a scene. And when he wasn’t, I found myself waiting with anticipation for him to reappear. It was odd…it almost seemed to me like the Joker was more the primary character than Batman. But it was highly entertaining, and will probably break box office records…and most likely get Heath the oscar for best supporting actor. Will probably go see it in IMAX next month, once it dies down.

The Dark Knight is the paragon comic book movie. It was filled with action, a deep and complex plot that taunted the audience to just try to follow, but in the end, everything is made clear. The action was top notch too.
All of the actors did a bang-up job, Christian Bale took the Batman and made him something that he's not been for a long time, the anti-hero. Heath Ledger's performance was absolutely spectacular, he made the Joker into one of the scariest, most menacing villains of our time.
The plot always had you on your toes, there was never really a dull moment. You always found yourself trying to piece together what would happen next, but then there would be a sudden twist that takes it into an entirely new direction.
Overall, the could be the greatest superhero movie that's been made to date.

Best movie of the year.
It's on everyone's mind, isn't it? I mean, a legendary performance by Heath Ledger, a beautifully shot action movie with the drama of seeing the transformation of Harvey Dent into Two-Face... What other movie this year is parallel to The Dark Knight?
Heath Ledger's introduction in the film is flawless, and continues to impress. When people say "Heath Ledger doesn't play the joker, he IS the joker", they're not kidding. This man's got talent, and it's a shame he had to pass at such a young age. Though not his final film, Heath Ledger has truly shown his amazing talent in The Dark Knight. The joker is a supervillain without parallel. I've gotta say, the Joker is probably my favorite thing about this movie.
Christian Bale. What is there to say? A well played Batman in Batman Begins, and another great performance in this sequel. Nolan wanted Bale to do most of the high sequence shots without CGI, so the film is beautiful and realistic. If you liked Christian Bale's performance in Batman Begins, you won't be disappointed as he has improved in becoming the darker, more pensive Batman.
Though the Joker is the posterboy of The Dark Knight, the film is mainly focusing on the transformation of Harvey Dent into the Joker. If you're looking for drama, this movie works on all levels. Even the significance of the name, The Dark Knight. Harvey Dent is the White Knight of Gotham City, a hero without a mask. As the movie progresses, you'll see the darker evils of what a man will do when he loses what he cherishes most in life.
Other thoughts? Batpod introduction was brilliant. Joker's performance only gets more wicked and twisted in the second and third acts, with a twisted smile and plenty of makeup, showing you how insane he truly is. Michael Caine is wonderful as always, and Morgan Freeman as Lucious Fox was fun to watch.
This is the best movie of the year. Period.

The core of this movie is four breathtaking performances, from Heath Ledger, Gary Oldman, Aaron Eckhardt and Maggie Gyllenhaal. Christian Bale is not too shabby either. The movie is not quite perfect, there's a couple of clunky scenes and dubious plot holes, but overall it's clearly the most essential of this summer's blockbusters.

A great installment into the Batman collection. Heath Ledgers performance was spectacular and the story itself, again as the previous Batman did, helps to explain more of how and why Batman became what he is, and how and why Gotham sees him in certain ways. Overall good movie, highly recommend!
