long, complex and worth it

The movie is long, complicated, and contains too many plotlines, but it all works. In fact, it is a very strong movie. I didn't believe all the bull about how Heath Ledger did an Oscar-caliber performance. Was I ever wrong. His Joker is unmatchable; the personification of madness and disassociation from normal reality. There is no way this character should work, but Ledger makes him completely believable and even realistic. Christian Bale is also super. Only real weak spot: Rachel. The role is weak and the acting was blank. There was no possible reason why the two male leads would be interested in this completely lost female, who didn't even come across as more than just barely OK on physical attractiveness.

This movie is far from perfect. There are flaws in the inconsistency of Batman's fighting, in the first film he moved lightning fast and was barely seen but in this movie he isn't as mysterious, he actually fights slowly with his opponents one at a time, making him look very vulnerable and not as terrifying as in "Batman Begins'. Did he forget his ninja skills and fighting techniques? Some other flaws are gaps in the storyline, bad editing, and some weak acting from some of the supporting cast. However, I do still give this movie 4 stars out of 5 and that's because Heath Ledger's performance really took this film into another dimension. He was terrifying, funny, and very realistically brutal. Also, the action sequences, visual direction, special effects, and pacing will grip you and not let go of you as you sit on the edge of your seat. It has flaws but manages to deliver the darkest Batman story ever on screen and one of the best action, suspense films of the last few years.

From beginning to end, the script, soundtrack, acting, special effects, lighting, etc. are absolutely tops. There just aren't enough superlatives for this blockbuster of a movie.

..but probably one of the best made movies I can recall seeing in the past decade. How Christian Bale's character embraces the role of the anti-hero from being known as a saviour is a transition I don't think anyone else could have done as smoothly and with grace as well as he did given the circumstance.
This movie showed once and for all that "good guys" aren't always what the world or the general public needs. Sometimes, there needs to be a figure that can be blamed for all its problems, to carry the worst of the world on his/her shoulders, and still, in some protaganistic way, be able to 'save the day' when all is said and done.
The choices of the masses aren't always correct, nor are they made with knowledge. This movie easily dissected the main flaws in what might be called a democratic system, as those that rely on the group as a whole to be able make the best decisions for themselves. This isn't always true, and as such, "The Dark Knight" was borne to carry the burden that society could not bear in hopes of leading them to a time they had yet only dreamed about.

Take all of the electrical anticipation for this movies debut and then consider it a bonafide justification. The film leaves the viewers hungry for more Joker, and the rare realization that a DC comic book character finally stole the lime light for the next Oscar ceremony coupled with a balance of plot, special effects and talented cast. Finally a movie that has raised the bar for the summer, and probably for years to come.

Movie was action packed! Great performances by all the actors. Ledger does deserve all the props for his performance. This series of Batman movies more closely follows the "Shadow of the Dark Knight" comic series. Instead of the fluffy version portrayed by the Jack Nicholson and Danny DeVito villans, Batman Begins and The Dark Knight show the darker version of Batman and each villan, the psychosis of all. If you haven't seen it, hurry and go today!

The dialogue and plot elements are extremely intelligent. It's a movie with real substance, and in fact, it's a little overwhelming. With the difficult decisions and moral ambiguities, it can push your judgment to the edge.
It has brilliant action, stunning cinematography, and absolutely fantastic acting. But what really sets The Dark Knight apart is the script/story. The Nolan brothers have written a masterpiece that is both disturbing and moving. This was a brilliant preformance from all involved in the production and creation of the movie.

It is rare when a movie lives up to the hype, but this one actually exceeds it. Ledger's Joker is as dark as it can be and still qualify as entertainment. There are no heroes, only struggle and suffering; they could have dropped the "k" and just called it "dark night." Dark it is, but a better villian I haven't seen in my lifetime. Best movie of the decade so far.

I think that the movie was insane!! Heath ledger hit this roll perfectly, Even if he didn't die his part in this movie was stunning. Though 2 hours and 30 minutes long, this movie was by far the best BATMAN movie that I have ever seen. Christian Bales Batman voice bothered me throughout the WHOLE movie however the action and Oscar caliber performance from Heath Ledger was enough to help me ignore that small nuance. I highly recommend this movie to anyone with enough freetime to go see it!
