Only topping the last one. I have been a Batman fan since I could remember. I still have all the collector cards somewhere, from the original Batman movie. Anyhow, I don't have the time or interest to write some witty review, but I will say that this movie left me looking for my remote (in the theater) so I could rewind and see certain scenes again. It was incredible and the acting was excellent. RIP Heath! :( And damn, Christian Bale is hot.

There is a lot going on in this movie, and it is action packed, fast moving, and suspenseful. Heath Ledger was phenomonal in it. He was the right combonation of humorous and serious. He really made the movie what it is and he does deserve the nomination for this role. The storyline is great, not too cartoonish. The entire cast did a really good job bringing back Batman. Go see this movie and you will be entertained from start to finish.

The Batman series of movies has had its ups and downs...mostly downs. The main problem that has reared its ugly head in every incarnation has been poorly conceived humor. Batman as a character and as a comic title has never been about bad puns and empty chuckles. He's dark. He's gritty. He's a vigilante doing a job that the "good guys" can't do. He's not a good guy...he's not even a hero. He's a man doing a job that needs to be done, and he does it well only because the morals ties that bind society can't touch him and rule his actions.
With Batman Begins, the anti-hero was taken back to his roots and back to basics. It was a chance to start a new string of films with a darker tone that was the core of this vigilante from inception. The movie succeeded in introducing the true concept of what he would become.
The Dark Knight follows up spectacularly by capturing the very essence of what Batman was meant to be. The movie presents the conflict within him that ultimately strips away his reservations about his role as Gotham's protector and leaves him standing as the Dark Knight...the symbol of fear for criminals that keeps the chaos of the city in check. Furthermore, the villains in the movie are presented for the first time as they were meant to be...worthy adversaries for the Batman and a genuine threat to order. Not once in the film is there a sense that you could ever identify with them or find their actions humorously acceptable. They are accurately presented as a madness that must be contained...because it is too powerful to be destroyed.
Christian Bale gives a superb performance both as Batman and as Bruce Wayne. He is by far the best Batman to date. And there simply are not the words to properly describe Heath Ledger's portrayal of The Joker. The only word that comes to mind is "perfect". No offense is intended to prior actors in the Batman world, but previous attempts at telling the story of Gotham fall agonizingly short of the bar that this movie bounded over with ease. There is no competition.
If you consider yourself a Bat-fan, see the movie so you can finally witness a big screen version that hits the mark. If you're not a Bat-fan...see The Dark Knight and you will be.

Dark and sinister, it transcends the genre with fantastic acting and direction. Weaving a delicate balance between superhero-cliche and harsh reality, Nolan pulls the whole thing together, anchored by Ledger's extraordinary performance.

The performance by the joker is Oscar worthy!! The sadistic and humerous combination really made the movie. The other performances were top rate but the best was Heath Ledger's performance hands down! This movie was just as good as the first!

I would probably say that this is the best movie that i have ever seen! Some parts were a bit too gruesom for a pg13 movie. My 14 year old niece covered her eyes a few times. However from the aldult point of view, I loved it. We will definately be seeing this movie again in theatres and buying it when it comes out on video.

Best Batman movie ever...period. That being said, this movie was so dark and violent, I would highly recommend parental discretion. There were many children in the theater (and even babies!) that had no business being there. Heath Ledger was just flat spooky but at this junction should be highly considered for a posthumous oscar. Great story..but could have ended a bit sooner...some action scenes a bit drawn out. BUT I would give it 4 1/2 stars...great movie!

I love movies based on comic book characters but lately I have found myself a little disappointed. Comic books have traditionally been very dark and this movie seemed to capture that essence. It by far exceeded every expectation that I had. Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker is as good or better than the reviews have said. He pulls off the role with such an eerie realism that he grabs ahold of the audience and does not let go until his final scene. This is a must see!

The dark figure of the Joker is sharply in contrast to the previous depiction of the campy, Nicholson version. Ledger's portrayal is bone-chilling and creepy. Gone are the days of laughing gas and joy buzzers. Instead, look forward to seeing Ledger crawl under your skin as he torments his victims with his scarred smile and greasy hair. He welds a knife that's scarier than a bunch of hard-core weapons. Batman fans will revel in Christen Bale's performance as the ultimate Dark Knight. THE movie of the decade. Excellent story full of twists and surprises. Excellent acting from everyone, including the TV analyst guy they kept showing. Excellent action and I loved the fact that CGI was a minimum. Since everyone wants to know: on a scale from 1 to 10 I rate the Joker at an 11. I knew Ledger was the Joker and I knew that since the first article about casting, but after only a few minutes into the movie; I completely forgot that Ledger was in the film. Not because of the makeup, it was because of his acting. The hype about him winning an Oscar, believe it. Because there should be an uproar of millions if he doesn't.
To put a little more weight behind this review I'll let you know that I recently graduated from college with a film minor. So I'm not just spouting words, I know a little bit of what I'm talking about.
GO SEE IT!

Nothing short of amazing. Everything was astonishing. This is a serious crime drama in the likes of Heat, The Departed, and The Untouchables. Heath is a sure bet to get an Oscar nom and although the Academy does not favor comic book films for Oscar noms, it would be a slap in the face for this to not get nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Score, and many technical awards along with that.

When was the last time you heard people suggest that a superhero movie deserved Oscar nominations? - and meant it!? Well, there's no doubt that Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker is phenomenal. For once, all the hype surrounding a superhero movie is lived up to. Hancock was very good. Iron Man was an excellent movie. But, The Dark Knight blows all other superhero movies out of the water! Finally, we have real Batman movies. By "real," I simply mean that Christopher Nolan has captured the mystique, and conflicted nature of Batman that is true to the comics. He's dark, he's reclusive, he's right on the border between superhero and villain. This movie is two and a half hours long - but, it's so incredibly intense, you won't even notice. Not a single character brings the movie down. Outstanding performances by all. One of the best movies I've ever seen.

The Dark Knight was darkly realistic and intense. It showed the audience the true nature of people in chaotic situations created by a sociopath waging war on Gotham City. The audience believed in the characters and the duties, burdens or goals upon which the characters acted. The special effects from make-up, gadgets and gizmos to explosions and aerial stunts were well-done and orchestrated effortlessly. After the movie was over, I was glad to see the sunshine!

It's been said so many times in every review for this movie, but it bears repeating. Heath Ledger played the best Joker ever. The direction that he took this character was nothing short of brilliant.
The new actress playing the Rachel character was so much better than Katie Holmes that I actually enjoyed her time on screen.
Christian Bale still bugs me a bit as Batman, he plays the character somewhat too safely... and while I know he has to disguise his voice... he doesn't have to do it while alone with Alfred... and somehow his gravel-whisper is annoying...
Script was genius, effects were great, and I can't wait for the next one... I have no idea how they can top this one...

This was a great movie. Christian Bale is now my new favorite Batman. Loved Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman too. While everyone is buzzing about Heath Ledger's performance as being Oscar-worthy, I don't think it's of that caliber. Don't get me wrong, he's phenominal in the role as the Joker, I just don't think it's going to garner him an Oscar. The special effects were great, and all the gadgets and cars were good too. Definitely not a movie for the younger set, though. I woud reccommend this movie for only 13 years old and up.

I am a real fan of superhero and sci fi and couldn't have been more disappointed. Dark Knight used violence like a crutch for a plot that just didn't exist. Del Tor should learn that sometimes less is more. As much as this movie is hyped, it didn't surprise me a bit that there was no sound from the audience during except for the occasional check of watches and cell phones for the end of this unnecessarily lengthy serial killer docudrama. No subtly nuanced characterizations here, just a surfeit of mayhem. The unrelenting cruelty of all the characters left me nauseous. After the movie, the audience couldn't wait to leave, not one person sppeared to have enjoyed the experience. Pass the pepto!

Perfect!! This movie was perfect in every way shape and form. Heath Ledgers performance... unfortunate to be his last went above and beyond anything he has done in the past. His character is right up there with Anthony Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs for creepy factor. I highly recommend this movie to everyone over the age of 13. It is probably too scary for the little ones. A++

It has been a while since I thoroughly enjoyed a movie that wasn't a cartoon. I am going to see it again soon. Heath Ledger's performance was A+++++. There is no way they can find someone to replace him if they choose to do another. Absoultely loved it especially when it makes you feel as if the movie is ending but it's not. PS. The motorcycle was fantasic. I hope Heath wins an Oscar because his performance was so much better as Joker than in Broke Back Mountain.

The Dark Knight was overall an epic movie.
The action and suspense that the Joker brought to the movie was spot-on even though the Joker's signature "laughing gas" and "smile gas" were never used in the movie.
However, the twisted clowning around was reached highly in the movie and set quite a dramatic suspense to the movie. The movie was also full of twists (although I wont give any away).
So I would recommend anyone interested in action/suspense to go see the movie, or generally anyone who is a fan of Batman.
Make sure you bring the popcorn.

Heath Ledger had a great performance. I love how he could do so many different genres of movies. That's really a true actor. RIP Heath!
ANNDD the movie was action packed, NOT boring, exciting, and you always wanted to know what would happened next!
I can bet this movie will win lots of Oscars!
