even though the movie lasts for 2 and one half hours it moves very fast. The actors all do a very good job and have their hearts in their roles. I can see why Rcihard Roeper says that it is the best picture of the year.

A thought provoking crime drama

The Dark Knight is a complex, thought provoking film which just so happens to have Batman in it. Chris Nolan creates a sense of realism in his bat-universe that Burton wishes he had. This Batman is real, haunted and desperately looking for an escape clause to his nightly exploits. In steps Harvey Dent a no nonsense district atorney who's hitting the mafia where they hurt. Batman sees Harvey as everything he aspires to be. A hero that doesn't have to hide behind a mask. It also doesn't hurt that Harvey is also seeing Rachel Dawes, Bruce Wayne's former flame. Chaos enters in the form of The Joker, a sociopathic terrorist that plays sick games with people. The Joker comes off as the physical embodiment of Loki, the Norse God. He is elemental and unpredictable, a force of malevolent nature. Heath Ledger goes from humorous and quirky to terrifying in the blink of an eye. His performance is revelatory and nuanced, featuring all sorts of physical and vocal ticks. I've yet to see a better performance this year. All the actors do a great job but I swear that sometimes when Oldman as Gordon gets loud he slips into his real accent. This however is The Joker's show. You'll wish that he was in every scene, he is that good and he leaves no teeth marks in the scenery. this is a crime drama masterpiece, like Heat without the boring parts. And unlike The excellent Iron Man, This film raises questions that stay with you days after seeing it. Like Batman Begins before it, The Dark Knight is not just a great comic book movie, it's a great movie period. See it and see it now in theaters, you'll be glad you did.

Unbelieveable character representations...Bale shows Batman has human characteristics by losing his cool in the interegation room with the joker by losing his cool...Ledger shows the Joker is evil and is not up to anying criminalistic...He just wants to create hate and evil in the world..Its as if he were satin...Joker doesn't care about dying so long as he creates hate and evil among Gotham

Best Superhero Movie (No Joke)

This was absolutely the best superhero movie ever put on screen. Now it sits along one of my all time favorite movies period. It was that good. Very dark though. I wouldn't say it was for the kiddies (anyone below 10). I would definitely recommend it if your a comic book fan or even if you are a fan of movies with great acting. Heath Ledger was phenomenal! This will go down as a classic.

This movie plays out as an amazing crime drama, that just happens to be about the Batman and Joker.

The entire cast was awesome, but overshadowed by the performance by Heath Ledger. The hype was in place before he died, but has reached a level that would be hard to fulfill. But he does!! An incredible mark to leave as his final completed film role.

Get to the Cinema

The Dark Knight was a movie that did not feel like its two hours and thirty minutes, it was engaging. Right amount of action and plot that intertwined into a fluid film. The phrase "Why so serious?" takes on a sinister appeal in the hands of Heath Ledgers Joker. He was really rather captivating in his performance because I forgot that he was Heath Ledger and saw only Joker so it was startling when he's in the interrogation room and his makeup is somewhat smeared and you can recognize him. I walked out of the movie asking when the next one was coming out :D The narrative at the end of the film gave me goosebumps and was a much better ending compared to the first film. Really you should ask yourself why you're reading reviews and not jumping out of your seat to get to your nearest theater! Go see it now you won't be disappointed.

The Dark Knight

The biggest letdown ever. Heath Ledger's par performance is entirely overrated, but easily stood out among all the subpar performances put up by everyone else. The only reason Ledger's performance is gaining praise is out of respect for the deceased.
Christian Bale's performance was laughable - his Batman voice was uncomfortably awkward and inconsistent - overall he was unconvincing. Everyone else was easily forgetful. It never felt like the actors became the characters they were supposed to be; similarly, it never felt like the film was set in Gotham. It certainly didn't help to see Illinois car tags everywhere- a constant reminder that the film was shot in Chicago.
The film played at an extremely slow pace and lacked the usual thickness of plot and sub-story lines that even the most average films have. It will sorely disappoint anyone looking for the thrilling ride of a typical Batman movie and the eye candy associated with new Bat-gadgets and new character villains (okay the two-face thing was moderately cool but totally expected). Will somebody please tell me where they spent $180 Million? My best guess is on poor acting. :(
Overall, the movie had all the potential in the world - especially at the end where there were cruise boats on Lake Michigan (sorry I mean somewhere on Gotham water), one filled with criminals and the other with innocent civilians. I felt something juicy brewing, but unfortunately the action fell short yet again. I think the best way to describe this movie would be as a series of anticlimactic ends to undeveloped subplots that led up to one big anticlimactic end.
Honestly, this was the first time in a very long time that I was actually periodically checking my watch starting about halfway in to the movie until its end because I was ready to go. :(

Now I've seen a lot of movies. I've seen a lot of movies several times. I've seen movies that I thought were worth seeing again, but it pained me to part with another seven bucks to see it.

The Dark Knight is not one of those movies. It's SO much more!!!

Okay, so how can I possibly begin to wrap my mind around this movie?! I doubt it's possible to accurately describe the feelings one has when emerging from the theater other than standing still for a moment before finally going, "WOW." I admit, months ago I heard that Heath Ledger would be playing The Joker, and I was upset. "Heath Ledger?" I said to myself. I thought nobody could quite reach Nicholson's Joker, much less pretty boy Heath Ledger.

Boy was I wrong.

I have been a Batman fan for all of my days, and I had never been fully satisfied with any interpretation of the Caped Crusader thus far. Honestly, I thought Jack Nicholson created as great a Joker as anyone ever could. So I drove to the theater and expected to walk out muttering, "Why Ledger, again?" Having seen it several times over, and gladly given my money each time, I look back and am actually surprised that I thought it would be less than this. The hype was totally true. Heath Ledger has put on the greatest performance of The Joker I have ever seen. I grew up on Mark Hammill's Joker in Batman: The Animated Series. I watched how incredibly Jack Nicholson performed as the Clown Prince of Crime. I watched in total shock and awe, finally, as a Joker I had imagined but never quite seen perfected came to life in The Dark Knight. One literally finds themselves going, "Okay, when is the Joker coming on again?"

Christian Bale kicked it up a notch and showed his great devotion to Batman, giving the greatest Batman performance I have ever seen. Now if only Kevin Conroy did movie voiceovers... Seriously, though, Bale gives an outstanding Batman to the audience, and he has earned my respect as an actor.

Aaron Eckhart was an excellent addition as the district attorney of Gotham City, Harvey Dent. His transformation near the end of the film was actually very well done, and this film gives the greatest Two-Face I have ever seen as well.

Maggie Gyllenhaal did alright as Rachel Dawes. Considering the fact that Katie Holmes created the character, it is very difficult to fill someone else's shoes when they have taken a character and made it memorable. Heath Ledger pulled it off, though...

Overall, this film is as close to perfect as I have ever seen. I can't even say what I would change, other than bringing Katie Holmes back. There was something lacking in those scenes with Rachel Dawes, but they still passed with flying colors.

If I could sit in a theater and just watch this movie 24/7, I would. I have always wanted to tackle the role of The Joker, and I have to say, I feel intimidated by Ledger's performance. I have been acting for a long time now, but Heath left us with a final performance that showed just how talented he really was.

Go see The Dark Knight. I walked out of the theater with my friends, looked to them, and all of us just went, "WHOA." No other film can compare, be it a superhero movie or a classic tale.

Wow. Just wow. And I thought Batman Begins was excellent. This... this piece of art... its PHENOMENAL!! From the scale, to the acting, the atmosphere, the music, the action, it's all art. I have not experienced this level of greatness in the cinema for a long time. This film is the darkest Batman, as well as one of the darkest, violent and gripping films, ever made.
I'll start off with the actors. Christian Bale has done a tremendous job as our beloved Caped Crusader, who has a flawed personality that hangs on the balance between righteous and crazy. His perception of justice causes an emotional and personal shift, whether he is a rich guy who fights crime in a suit or just a regular guy who is sick of all the injustice in Gotham City and decides to give the psychopaths a dose of their own medicine. Because of this, and Bale's tremendous acting, the Bruce Wayne character is justified, and we, the audience, emphasizes with Bale's flawed hero more than Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George (shudder) Clooney, Kevin Conroy, or God forbid Adam West, ever will. If there was an excellent Batman, this is the real deal. The theme of righteousness and insanity is played well with his character here.
But of course, the real star of the show is the late and great Heath Ledger, who steals almost every scene he's in as the villainous Joker (Nicholson, step aside). This Joker is not like the other renditions; he is the best. Downright evil, corrupt, insane, psychotic, terrifying. In every sense of those aforementioned words. More scary than funny, he shows audiences the Joker is undoubtedly Batman's most nefarious foe and his perfect nemesis, challenging him all the way. With a cynical smile, he proclaims in a scene where Batman is a freak to the public, like the Joker himself. This also explains the balance of righteousness that Bruce Wayne is going through. The Joker is downright evil, and Ledger makes this performance legendary. I agree with the critics, sign me up for the petition where he deserves a posthumous Oscar win.
The rest of the cast is excellent and star-studded. Aaron Eckhart does his Harvey Dent/Two-Face character justice, with a strong sense of righteousness/betrayal/twistedness up his sleeve, as well as Bruce Wayne's rival in love. His acting is strong here. Maggie Gyllenhaal is a great replacement for Katie Holmes as Wayne's love interest Rachel Dawes, as she shows more sensitive and caring side towards Bruce, other than Holmes' nearly flat performance. Michael Caine as Bruce Wayne's loyal butler Alfred delivers, as well as Morgan Freeman as the CEO of Wayne Enterprises. Gary Oldman does an excellent portrayal of Lt. James Gordon, who aids Batman in his quest for justice. And a special mention goes to Eric Roberts as a crime lord, who surprisingly does a great acting job. The rest of the cast can take a bow, they can be proud of their being in this film.
The cinematography is possibly the most sublime scenes ever chosen. Gotham and Hong Kong are wide, and yet, there is this dark aura of crime and corruption all around them. It really blends in well with the film, giving it a distinct and unique look. Quite simply, this is the best Gotham city in any Batman rendition. Wally Pfister has done an excellent job.
To accompany the atmosphere is the tremendous music score by movie music maestros, James Newton Howard and Hans Zimmer. With talents like these, the score is unforgettable. It is tension-building at times, and throbbing and glorious yet dark/moody during others. It deserves an Oscar.
The very loyal screenplay is written very, very well by Jonathan Nolan (director's brother), who has done a masterful job. The characters are (pardon the pun) rich in character and the story has not a flaw in it. For a comic book film adaptation, this film is not at all fantasy-like. It is quite realistic in a way and this is what gives the film more credibility. Also, the fact that the script is realistic is unbelievable, as you expect a superhero film when you walk in the cinema, and walk out realizing you have just seen an epic crime saga. Yes, CRIME SAGA. It deserves to be mentioned in the same sentence with "GoodFellas", "Heat", "The Untouchables" and even "The Godfather". I kid you not, this film has the power. The fact that this is an epic is further proved by the film's length - 2 hours and 32 minutes. Yes, it's that long. But it goes by so fast because you end up wishing for more.
But of course, none of this is possible without the genius that is the other Nolan, director Christopher. As per Memento, he knows how to direct a film. The dramatic scenes are engaging and the action sequences are crisp, thrilling, and will blow you out of your seat. Nolan's direction is tense, whip-smart, kinetic and smart. All of the action sequences are realistic, "boombastic", and CGI is used only when necessary (Steve Spielberg and George Lucas, take note). The new vehicle and some gadgets look cool and stylish and do not take away the film's credibility and realism. There are a lot of action sequences to boot, some of them combining themes from above. You will have to see them to believe them. The brothers Nolan have done it again.
In short, it's a masterpiece. One that will knock you out of your seat. It is the best Batman film ever, the best superhero film ever and the best film of 2008 thus far. If there ever was a possibility of a summer film winning Best Picture at the Oscars (like Titanic and Lord Of The Rings), this will join their ranks. It is rightfully deserved. Do yourselves a favor and see this piece of art. Repeated viewings highly recommended.

Best Movie of the Summer. Ledger (RIP) was excellent as The Joker. Big shoes to fill to find a replacement Joker. Bale, once again, was an excellent Batman. Story is great. 2 1/2 hours of footage was necessary to cover the storyline. Never boring. Definitely a must. I saw it twice so far.

Lives up to the hype. Strong performances by all the cast. Maggie G. an upgrade to Katie Holmes. Haven't been this entertained in years by a movie. Could have ended with the Joker's capture and would have been satisfied but added twist. Impeccably directed. Bravo.

Best Batman Yet

This is the most thorough batman, since batman begins. From the start of the movie, each character was developed and had reason to be in the movie. This was not your ordinary comic book movie where they had to kill the enemy. the situations in the movie were realistic. There were no superhero powers from batman to the joker. That's that makes this movie distinguished. Not to mention great acting from heath ledger, gary oldman, and aaron eckhart. christian bale had this odd deep voice whenever he was batman. other than that, this movie was great. Make sure you know this is a 2.5 hour movie. its long but its worth it (that's what she said)

This Movie was great. I recommend it to anyone, but not little children. Heath Ledger was the best part of the movie. I think everyone was always waiting for the Joker to come back on screen during the whole movie. Christian Bale was also excellent in his second Batman movie. It's just a shame that Heath Ledger can't keep playing the Joker.

As the movie began I wasn't sure what to think. I've been a great fan of Heath Ledger for many years but with this being his final roll I was almost afraid that it wouldn't be what I hoped it would.

I've been a reader and watcher of Batman for many years, especially through my childhood and the Joker was always my favorite character because he was intelligent and calculating of everyone's actions. He always had a way to solve any problem that faced him and only allowed batman to THINK that he'd caught him when he truly was using the bat to fulfill his own goals.

Ledger more than completed his legend by nailing the Joker to every personality trait the comics and cartoons gave him and being the ULTIMATE go to reference for what the character should be, he made it so that no one could ever fill his shoes. There will never be another joker half as good as he.

If there were never another Batman/Joker movie, I would be satisfied because I know that we have sadly lost the best actor for the roll.

I had high expectations to begin with - this did not disappoint.
I enjoyed Batman Begins, this topped it in many ways.
After hearing all the buzz around Heath Ledger, I was prepared to think it would be all sympathy good reviews. But he was phenomenal. There was not a trace of Heath in that performance. He completely got lost in the role and gave a new take on a well loved character.
Christian Bale once again was great as both Bruce Wayne and the Batman. The duality of the characters was great.
Maggie Gyllenhal was an amazing addition to the film, and made the character Rachel Dawes, which fell flat with Katie Holmes interpretation in the first film, a genuine and real.
Aaron Eckhart was amazing as Harvey Dent, and Michael Caine was great as Alfred.
Well played movie - great effects, great opening - great twists.
For someone who usually hates superhero movies, this will be very hard to top!
