I thought the movie was great. My spouse accompanied me under duress since he doesn't usually like Batman movies. He then proceeded to tell me that this was really a great movie, maybe the best Batman movie ever. You made a believer out of him!

This is by far the darkest batman I've seen. Heath Ledger dis a masterful job portaying the Joker. His performance is riveting and legendary. Christian Bale was average for Batman. I thought his fake Batman voice was not authentic enough and Maggie Gillenhall looked old.
The storyline and plot were strong and I feel that overall this is the best Batman I have seen. I would put it up there with Ironman.

This is by far the best Batman movie I have seen. The entire 2 and a half hours was filled with action, suspense and I was completely engulfed in the story... I was surprised to see two face in the movie and especially how he got to be two face.... I also liked Tommy Lee Jones as two face in the other movie.... But the make-up on Aaron Ekhart outstanding....

So after much critical hype, I finally had to go see this movie again (walked out the first time, due to an issue at home). My initial feelings did not change that much, after watching the entire movie. It was solid, but clearly over-hyped from a critical review standpoint -- best movie ever? No. Best Comic Book movie ever? Not sure, but that's not saying much. To me, a great movie means great writing, great acting, and ultimately a story that either moves me, or thoroughly entertains me. Was it a solid movie? Yes. But, and this is a big but, it was way too long, way too dark (evil in spirit), and I'm just a little worn out after 6 versions of this character, even if the series basically started over with Bale and Batman Begins. I guess as the story evolved, it just didn't matter to me who lived and who died -- the characters did not engage me to the point that I cared about them enough for it to matter. I ow far too may dvds and buy far too many digital downloadss for my own good, but when this comes out on dvd, I will pass. I just don't need to see this movie again -- and that, is antoher way to consider this review, i.e. one and done.

Absolutely Incrediblely Great!! Christian Bale is a great Batman. Health Ledger was excellent. I understand why he had so many problems after this movie. I really thought he was nuts. He was almost just as good as Jack Nickelson, but Jack is way nutter!! It was dark and this is how Batman movies should be. Excellent acting from all the actors.

This violence in this movie warrants it an "R" rating - NOT PG13. Matter of fact, it is wanton, gratuitous, violence. If you like "Planet Terror" and other SUPER violent movies, you'll like the Black Knight. I'm in my 50s and it was a stupid waste of 2.5 hours.

There is something terrifying in the night, something that just wants to push and pull and break and kill and destroy for the point of making it all happen. In “The Dark Knight” the scariest clown ever put on film taunts and torments Gotham’s winged savior, but it goes deeper than that. This clown’s purpose is chaos, his drive seems to be little more than boredom. In Christopher Nolan’s second tale of the bat-man the crime bosses, the thieves, the traffickers all take a backseat to the king of anarchy.
Unlike too many superhero films that seem to cram enemies onto the scream in great numbers in hope of satisfying the lust of comic-book fans, only to have the stories seem forced, the back-stories take up too much time just to have a conclusion that forces all the figures on screen together in unnatural contortions, “The Dark Knight” gives all its players meaning and soul. The acting is outstanding, these guys could be just as easily staging “Macbeth.” The one unfortunate aspect is Batman’s low, grumbling voice which seems so much like Bale trying to sound tough and mean and not actually doing it. There’s no doubt about it, as Bruce Wayne, Bale oozes confidence, evokes ire and plays the part of the spoiled rich-brat to the hilt, but as Batman he comes across as trying so hard to be dark and menacing this time around, possibly aware that he is competing on screen with an Oscar-worthy performance form Ledger, that it feels forced, it feels like Batman is the act and snotty Wayne is the real deal.
As for story, it’s an epic. The film plays out in three acts and like “Hellboy II” is more concerned with characters than plot. The difference in “The Dark Knight” is that the characters are the plot. D.A. Harvey Dent is nothing less than everything he seems. He’s the white knight here, good, virtuous, incorruptible, smart and willing to do and lose everything to restore Gotham to order and safety. The first act of the film revolves around Dent’s crusade against the mob forces in Gotham and his unholy alliance with the vigilante bat that scores him his victory.
But peace comes at the price of chaos. The second act is all about the fallout of such a sweeping move, the price of corruption in the police force, the dark-underbelly of a city rising, and a lunatic out to unmask a certain bat. When that does work, all hell breaks loose.
The final third of this two and a half hour opus is a symphony of fear conducted by a mad maestro of insanity. What starts out as an action / crime drama, turned into a superhero film and degenerated into nightmare the equal to anything the likes of Hannibal Lector ever spawned. The joker wants to play some games and he wants Batman and Gordon along with the people of Gotham to decide who live and who dies – he wants to prove that he can drive anyone down to his level, that he’s not the freak, we’re all freaks just waiting for an excuse to come out.
There are easily three finale’s in “The Dark Knight” each building layers of unease upon each of the characters. The Joker is chaos, he is murder, he is anarchy but he is not logical, he does it for the pleasure of doing it. The film is chocked full of post-“patriot-act” metaphors, especially in a scene where Batman taps into every cell-phone in the city simultaneously, turning them into sonar to generate a 3D image of the area around any cell phone in use. “No one man should have all that power” Freeman’s Fox tells Wayne, “you’re right, that’s why I gave it to you,” he replies. This an obvious jab at the Bush administrations wire-taping scandal. Yes there are moments when Batman becomes very much like Jack Bauer of “24,” the difference is that Batman asks the question “is this right?”
You shouldn’t see this film, you have to see this film. “The Dark Knight” is a swift, exhilarating and emotional thriller that takes the best parts of films such as “James Bond” and “Mission Impossible” and blends them the dread of “The Silence of the Lambs” and brings mass-destruction down to a personal level, and deals with loss with all the insanity that pain brings. The characters are well-acted and perfectly writing, the story is compelling, the issues relevant, the excitement high and the intensity is blistering. See “The Dark Knight.”

We went to see this on the Superscreen, which made it an incredible experience, but I'm sure it will impress no matter where you see it. Great acting by Aaron Eckhart, Christian Bale, and of course Heath Ledger, not to mention the other cast of stars. In a nutshell, everyone was in top form, working with a near-perfect script and what else could you expect other than a stellar film and breathtaking movie experience!
The film probes the queston of whether a superhero like Batman should even exist, since both criminals and vigilantes want to have their turn at being a superhero or criminal match to him, and thereby create chaos, disorder, and crime.
Heath Ledger is so disturbing as the joker that one has the impression that no one can stop him and indeed, most of the film seems to be one in which all the crime fighers, Batman included, are pawns in his game of crime for its own sake.
This is definitely a fast paced movie with many plot turns. You will be relieved to see Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine as steadying influences during the storm of violence. Gary Oldman is superb as Lt. Gordon aiding Batman, and Nestor Carbonell as the Mayor is perfect in portraying a mayor with questonable motives who plays both ends against the middle.

I was slightly hesitant to see this movie. . .kept hearing it was so dark, intense, etc. Wow! I am so glad that we went. The move was fantastic and 2 1/2 hours went by so fast! Bale's Batman was superb, Eckhart was great but Heath Ledger blew me away. What a performance. I won't give anything away--I'm under strict orders from my kids -- no spoilers! Suffice it to say "GO SEE THIS" and see it in the theater. No home theater can do this movie justice!

The plot of the movie was compelling and somewhat thought provoking as you see the lines of right vs. wrong or hero vs. villian blur, which shows that there is in all of us the capability of both. Ledger's performance was outstanding. You almost would not know it was him had you not heard that he was playing the Joker. Definitely worthy of the Oscar posthumously.

This is the best Batman movie ever! But it's definitely not for kids. Even my wife was shaken up by some of the violence. The story was excellent, the action was great and the performances top notch. Heath Ledger was excellent as the Joker although I'm not sure about Oscar worthy. I think that's more sympathy than anything else. Christian Bale is great as Batman. They finally cast that part right!
I did have a couple things I didn't like. Maggie G. as the lost love interest was one. Sorry, but she's just not beautiful enough. I guess they were trying to get someone who looks like Katie Holmes. The other thing I didn't like was the ending. I won't say anything more so as not to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it yet.

The darker, grittier story that almost leaves you feeling like there may be no hope for Batman, just like you felt the Empire might actually defeat the Jedis. Though my parents didn't like it, I did. :D The Joker just about made me die laughing. He just looks so WEIRD! Like a clown! My parents were sorry they took me to see it, because of the violence, and they were sure I'd have nightmares for a week! I'm still dreamin sweetly! I loved Batman, Dark Knight. Where do I begin. Picture yourself in front of your television watching the evening news. Picture the news content as being the most horribly graphic, terrorist-centric news stories you can imagine. Picture the content on a loop that repeats every 15 minutes for 2.5 hours. There you got The Batman movie. Why anyone would pay to see this film is a mystery. It is 180 degrees from entertaining. It will bore you with tedious. In fact the film is tenacious about being tedious. The Batman is horrible. He moves like a rigid thug. He has no speed; it's like he cant bend anything in his silly suit. We're really depressed to have spent 20$ on this. Feel totally ripped off. You will too. Don't stay for the end like we did -- hoping it will get better. It doesn't. Did I mention it's horrible?

My opinion. I was deeply saddened that Heath Ledger was not able to enjoy the final product. After his performance as the Joker, Mr. Ledger was on his way to becoming the top box office draw for as long as he wanted to. Christian Bale, in my opinion, is the best Batman so far. Mr. Bale should never allow anybody else to play Batman, as long as he is able to. Kudos to Heath and Christian for choosing to play the parts they did. Aaron Eckhart, we will see you again in the next Batman.

I will go so far as to say the best superhero film to date. Not recommended for young children, but I was mesmorized by the story, the acting, the new bat technology, and of course, the joker. What a great written villian. It saddens me that Heath Ledger passed on so prematurely. His performance was worth the price of admission. Highly recommended.

This movie was actually better then the hype has been. Usually the previews are the best of the movie. Not this one. All of it was great. Heath Ledger was VERY good in this. I just hope he wins. It would be great for his daughter and parents. I hope they make another. I really like Christian Bale as Batman. Will be waiting.... Everyone go see it... Not for young children...

This is the best movie i have seen in a very long time. I never thought that Jack Nicholson's performaced would ever be topped but Heath Ledger blew it out of the water. It is really a shame that there will be no more movies made by the star. He really is incredible. May he rest in peace and God bless.

I have to say I was both confused and more than a little disturbed by this movie. There seems to be a deliberate theme of betrayal from the outset: the opening sequence shows Joker Heath Ledger doing in his entire cast of bank robbers to single-handedly run with the loot, then Batman doing some self-betrayal throughout the flick, after being upstaged by a charismatic D.A. of Gotham who wants to win over hearts and minds in a political way-- as opposed to Batman, who has turned into the unknowing leader of a vigilante maelstrom. Heath Ledger's performance is so maniacal and frightening as to dominate the whole movie as the axis of evil -- whereas all other characters (including the Bat's) voices and motives are so muffled as to be inscrutable. Great action scenes ebb and flow throughout, but the context and logic are often as cloudy as the dark skies of Gotham itself. I personally cannot see why this is a PG-13 movie, because I would not let anyone under 16 see such mayhem and gratuitous violence. Heath Ledger will certainly be a legend as this character even makes Nicholson look like he doesn't know Jack. If Ledger were still alive, he would surely have been the recipient of accolades and awards. Somehow I wished for the entrance of Penguin, Riddler, and Mr. Freeze to bring a little levity to this film, but no.
