'Dark Knight' is to 'Batman Begins' what 'Empire Strikes Back' was to 'Star Wars'... The darker, grittier story that almost leaves you feeling like there may be no hope for Batman, just like you felt the Empire might actually defeat the Jedis. 'The Dark Knight' is the perfect middle story - the ideal set up for a triumph return of Batman's glory in the next installment.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
