It is apparent that the special effect budget was HUGE. By far, the best Star Trek in that manner. The back story of the characters is good with perfect people playing the key roles, but the movie plot itself left you waiting for the real movie to start. I would guess the next Star Trek will be great, but this one was just a solid Good. I only see 1-2 movies a year at the theatres, and I think I might have been just as good to wait for this on Blue Ray. A big plus was hot as$ Ohora. Well casted.

I haven't been excited about going to the movies in a very long time. My daughter brought me to the show as a Mother's day gift. From the very first moment of the intro I was thrilled and it never let up. It is true "Trek" from the get go. I like the evolution from the first Trek.

This movie does well in positioning a whole new crew (with same names as before) for more journeys into the unknown. No dissapointments at all with this latest movie! I would hope the new ST movie is a new basis for more continuing episodes!

I wasn't thrilled at the prospect of sitting for 2 hrs. However, I was pleasantly surprised by how fast the time went by. Excellent plot, wonderfully acted by actors I've never heard of, surprising and funny!

As I have been a Star Trek Fan from the beginning, I was afraid I would be dissappointed. It was beyond what I could have imagined. The actors did justice to their former counterparts. It was exciting to watch and many funny moments that brought back memories, and may I add, a wonderful surprise actor. Can't wait to see if there will be a sequel.

I have followed Star Trek since television of the '60's and found this movie true to the spirit of the originals. Enjoyed every minute. I understand the need not to disrupt the current history of Star Trek so killing off Spock's mother and Vulcan was a bit of a stretch. If there is a sequel in the mix perhaps they could go back to the original pilot with now Admiral Pike and his outcome. Well done. Roddenberry would have approved

We heard before we went to see it that you had to see the older movies to understand this movie.. Not true at all,, My two children that I brought to see this movie fully understood the movie and enjoyed it immensely although they never saw a star trek epsiode or movie prior,

My wife is the big Star Wars and Star Trek fan. When we saw the movie she said she enjoyed it more than Star Wars. Special Effects were great and had a good story line that followed all the way thru. For those of you who do not know anything about the old Star Tek or the series, thats fine. You will get a small education and history. Go see it in the big screen with good audio.

It was a good movie compared to the last 5 or 6 Star Trek movies. The actors and director were good and made the show. The story line was OK, but the time travel things and two Spocks went too far. Overall a good movie, but could have been better.

Biggest movie of the season so far. The movie was even better than I had hoped. I could not believe that they had chosen "Sylar" the power stealing murderous mutant from TV's "Heroes" to play Spock but he plays the role extremely well. As this movie is proving Star TRek fans will flock to a well written and well acted film. Hopefully future Star Trek films will be as well done. Felt great to see and hear the audience applauding after the movie (as though the actors could hear). Things should prove interesting in any sequels to this movie as this version of Spock is allowed to show more emotion (both anger and love). A definite two thumbs way up from this Reviewer!!!!!!!!

For all of you Star Trek fans, this is definitely one to see. It brought me back to the late 60's with 2009 technology enhanced graphics and a reminder of why there are so many Trekies out there. I do wish that William Shatner could have made a guest appearance. That was a loss. I hope there will be another Star Trek movie with the new young Kirk, Spock, Chekov,
McCoy and Scotty on the Starship Enterprise!!!

I loved this movie. I took my parents, both big Trek lovers. I've never been a huge fan but have seen most of the movies over the years.
This movie was awesome. The action was non-stop, the plot was interesting, and there was just enough camp to satisfy the Original Series devotees out there.
Summer is the season for movies, and this is the perfect one to kick it off. Well done JJ Abrams.

I was concerned about substantial changes to a myth which I found so comforting over the years. There have been subtle changes since the 60's but nothing that would turn the Star Trek World upside down.
There is decent respect for what came before. True Trekkies can pick up the factoid references to the traditional story line. But, Star Trek has been liberated from the old canon and is no longer a museum piece.
The future remains hope filled. The story was fast paced and just fun to watch.
However, leaving the theater, I pondered the Barjavel paradox. Perhaps this leaves the door open for other sequels or simply proof postive of my status as a true believer.

Whenever a prequel is made great care must be taken to be true to the original storyline and characters. This is especially true of the iconic Star Trek series of shows and movies. With the exception of the Spock/Uhura love affair (who thought that up???), the characters were believable and the script aptly written. Action-smaction. This movie's greatness is in the development of the characters and that's exactly as it should be...in true Star Trek style.

This movie was fun and exciting. The casting was great. The second I saw the USS Enterprise on the screen I got shivers! This ship is truly the iconic symbol of all things Trekkie. I loved it and definitely want to see it again and some day own the DVD.

It was "so-so".
I think that movies are dang expensive and people try to cater to as many people as possible to sell as many tickets as possible so they dumb it down...the original series and even the Next Generation was Shakespeare in comparison, even if the fight scenes, miniskirts, and FX were corny.
Think about all the issues that Kirk (and later Picard) had to deal with, around the prime detective, human (sentient being's rights), cultural relativism...this was "action movie masturbation"

Wow Wow Wow!!! I have not felt such fun, exhilaration and excitement in a movie since the first Indian Jones or possible the first Superman ... This film had a great blend of action, humor and a great storyline. The casting was perfect and the direction superb. Go Go Go See it :)
