Boldly goes where no prequel has gone before. Pays homage to the original and maybe does it one better. On one hand it;s like a screening of "Rocky Horror Picture Show" because of the familiar accents, and voices, and expressions. Except here they say it FOR THE FIRST TIME. But the characters were so charismatic, it was easy to become invested in them.
Just as the point of Start Trek 1 - 3 is to get Padme pregnant and Darth Vader into his "robot suit", the point of this film is to get Capt Pike into his wheelchair in time for Episode 1. But they pull it off in inventive and unusual ways. And leave open the possibility of a dare I say it -- sequel, to right the wrongs committed in this film. Two very big and enthusiastic thumbs up!

I was not expecting the humor! This was a great movie - action, humor, really good character development. I loved the references and quotes from the original series. It makes me want to go back and watch the original tv shows...

I consider myself a die hard Trekkie so I was holding my breath for this release. I was fairly satisfied with the outcome. Of course changes were made between the original and this release, a few raising an eyebrow, but a lot was also kept consistent with original Trek; overall I felt the story, the characterizations, and the way technology was represented very much upheld the spirit of the Star Trek universe that die hard fans really seek. It also offers a lot for non-Trekkies to enjoy.
One word of warning - some of the camera action is very shaky, meant to be edgy and exciting I'm sure, but actually made me a little nauseous. Definitely worth seeing on the big screen regardless.

I remember watching Star Trek as a kid and this put me back to sitting with my dad and enjoying "Space the final frontier". Although you don't need to know the history behind this awesome movie to enjoy it, it was especially nostalgic for me because I did. 5 stars I can't wait until there's another!!!

I loved this movie! It had me laughing, teared up, and sitting on the edge of my seat. I loved how the formation of the original characters came to light and all the newbies played the orginals with spot on performances and each captured the quirks of the "older" Enterprise crew. I cannot wait to see this again!

Great story, excellent execution, brilliant casting (especially Pine as Kirk, and Quinto as Spock). You got a real feel for the characters and their lives. Loads of action, the story never drags.

This was by far the best movie I have seen in years! Casting was perfect for every character. I loved that they showed a glimpse into the childhoods of both Spock and Kirk and the parallel/alternate universe could only be made possible by someone obsessed with time like J.J. Abrams. There was obvious respect for the "old-school" Star Trek characters and Enterprise, but with a fresh younger edge to it.

I was skeptical about this movie. I watch "Heroes" and didn't know how it would be with the bad guy from that show being Spock. He was great. It was a great way to open up a whole new trek to the younger fans. I believe this is one of the best Trek movies if not the best. If you are a Trek fan, go see it while it's on the big screen. It would be great if they could take that cast and make a series. I could see that working.

This movie had excellent battle scenes and great ship special effects. It also was a pretty clean movie with minimal cuss words and no nudity, which holds with the style of a great star trek movie. it however does not have the good pseudo-science that star trek is famous for. They introduce something called "Red - matter" in the movie. After watching it the science behind it and even its very name is pretty horrible science. The main plot line that sets everything in motion was lacking and unbelievable based on that it fails the fan nerd-test. However the actors are pretty good and the story line behind the characters is pretty good as well. if it went for the bad pseudo-science and main plot it would easily be a 5 star movie.

This movie is fabulous. I can see a reflection of the original actors in each of the new actors...great casting.
Having a history with the original series increases the entertainment but even if you don't know the original, you'vll love this movie, all of it's characters and the storyline.

Sorry folks - the new Trek is mostly hype:
The Good - Cast (Pike, Kirk, Spock, Uhura), Special Effects, Emotional context (Kirk and Spock's back story), and the action!
The bad - overall Story (Time Travel AGAIN!!!! come one!) and Kirk's adhoc promotion.
I don't know why everyone is kissing JJ Abrams - he obviously does not get Trek.
Wrath of Kahn and First Contact is great Trek! This is not.

I was excited to see this movie anyway but was completely blown away by it. Most of the time I have anything that uses time travel because ST was using it as a crutch to storytelling for yaers but this time it was used right. No flying around the earth to reverse time and no dream sequence to save everyone. It bridged the points between the original series and the new movie very well and left very few gaps. This is the best Trek Movie since Wrath of Khan and I look forward to future movies with great enthusiasm!

A thrilling take on a classic franchise.
I took my 10 year old son ( he only knows William Shatner as the guy who does commercials for online travel :) ) and he enjoyed it as much as Tranformers. I did have to explain some of the history but, Trekker knowledge not needed to enjoy.
Better make-up and special effects than from my generation ( the first TV series).
Outstanding casting and a hats off to Mr. Nimoy, may he live long and prosper.

This had tons of action, good characters, and lots of interaction that explained why the characters were the way they were. It was obviously written by fans of the series who paid attention to details, inserting a ton of jewels for die hard fans. Yet, it would also explain things just fine for someone completely new to the series. All that and not a dull moment as well. Best movie remake of a series we've seen.

Despite JJ Abrams saying he didn't feel that beholden to the Star Trek canon, he didn't go far enough in bringing new elements. So much time was spent on the "origin," there was little left for plot or character relationships. What there was -- i.e., why Nero was in such a bad mood -- didn't engage.
Star Trek has been successful on the big screen in tighter, character-driven conflicts. Take Wrath of Khan. Almost no time wasted on Khan's background saga. Instead we moved quickly into the plot with real consequences for the principal characters.
Other than an introduction to the youthful cast, I didn't feel this accomplished much. Perhaps it wins by setting up the next in the series, but I don't think Star Trek will wear well.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

I am NOT a Star Trek fan. When my husband said, what about going to see the new Star Trek movie my first response was, are you crazy? Totally not interested. However, this one was out of this world entertaining! I saw the trailer and was immediately hooked. I would go and see this movie over and over again in the movie theatre! I NEVER do that either. This one is an exception!

I was a little worried about this movie. Star Trek with totally new characters trying to fit into some pretty big shoes....BUT it really worked! Great story...great acting....great special effects...and I think the new actors stayed true to the original characters. I would recommend this movie even if your not a trekkie. Go see it. You won't be disappointed!

As a long time Trek fan, I was somewhat worried about how they would handle the beloved story. The alternate history gimmick was a wonderful decision.
The casting was spot on and they threw in enough of the old catch phrases to make even an old fan feel at home.
I can't wait until the next one!!

All the story tied in great with Trekkiedom. The new trend to shake a camera when an action scene happens gets old very quick. If I shake the camera then the viewer won't notice how slowly we perform the stunt, that is until they watch it on dvd later at a slower speed and see the stunts aren't that good. I was glad the movie included reference to Captain Archer. Enterprise the series deserved a better rep than it got. It respected all of the Trek universe, and this movie does as well. My only pause is in the tremors.

I've never been a huge Star Trek fan. I liked the original series, and the Enterprise series, but never got into the movies. I really liked this movie, though! I thought the cast was well chosen, and it was neat seeing all the characters from the start. There were only two things I didn't like about the movie, one being where they changed "no man" to "no one" (and yes, I am female). That's not enough for me to dislike the movie, and I would recommend this to a friend!
