I consider myself a die hard Trekkie so I was holding my breath for this release. I was fairly satisfied with the outcome. Of course changes were made between the original and this release, a few raising an eyebrow, but a lot was also kept consistent with original Trek; overall I felt the story, the characterizations, and the way technology was represented very much upheld the spirit of the Star Trek universe that die hard fans really seek. It also offers a lot for non-Trekkies to enjoy.
One word of warning - some of the camera action is very shaky, meant to be edgy and exciting I'm sure, but actually made me a little nauseous. Definitely worth seeing on the big screen regardless.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
